One thing you could try is to use that micro diamond as a seed. Place it in the graphite dust and do the experiment again. After all, when they grow artificial diamonds, they always use a seed. At least, that's how Discovery Channel showed it being done. Lol

500t is not going to change the structure of the atoms. You will need about 350,000kg per square inch of pressure to do that.

Did you use Metric and Imperial units in the same pressure measurement?

Pencil lead has various proportions of clay in it, depending on hardness. To demonstrate how much clay is present, burn off all the carbon with a blowtorch, and see what you have left. You could do much better than pencil lead as your source of graphite.

chemical vapor deposition is a way easier and faster way to make diamonds

I have been told, the dwarves from Dwarf Fortress only need a wooden press and their biceps to turn coal into diamond ;)

Looks like you shorted out the power supply with the press.

I'm no expert but the central pin shouldn't be taller or longer than the containment cylinder in order to have that margin of greater compression in the coal if the central pin is the same height, it's the same thing as nothing at least should be taller two fingers
@lord_kerman5 ай бұрын
Not really, because the graphite inside the cylinder takes up the space that the piston would have otherwise. Theoretically, if you got the piston flush with the cylinder, the graphite would be squeezed into an infinitely small space assuming that the piston was as long as the cylinder. Any extra length of the piston sticking out would have a considerably higher chance of being deformed, so it would be best to have the piston the same length as the cylinder.

Why don’t you test a thin strip of AR 500 armor plate in a shoe sole to stop a bamboo spike? A spike resistant armor plate in a shoe.
