I have owned several new Gold Wings in the 80s and 90s. I currently own the CVO Road Glide in Whiskey Neat. I agree with y’all’s assessment of the two bikes overall. With 2 ½ million miles behind me, I feel a touch qualified to make a judgement. 1. The HD suspension absolutely sucks - that’s why many owners are replacing it with far superior aftermarket brands. 2. The price of the HD is astronomical - everything with the Bar & Shield emblem is jacked up too high, 3. The accouterments are a definite plus on the RG. Only a few things to aggravate the owner: a. The saddle is a dud. I replaced mine with a custom rebuild which gave me copious amounts of joy, b. Electronics challenges (constant code alerts), c. All handlebar switches were swapped between left and right (takes a while to relearn), d. Nothing from the past Road Glides fit this new one. e. The four Wings that I owned and rode for over 300K, NEVER had a wrench turned on them, f. Among the twenty-two HDs that I had, EVERY ONE except two had maintenance issues ranging from drive belts to blown engines!! All of that being said, I’ll still keep my HD! THX for an informative and funny comparison video.

Curious as to why you'd keep the Harley. From everything you listed, it sounds terrible! What are some reasons to love it?
@danteinouye60987 ай бұрын
@@thekevinfranklin I get why he loves his harley; 'cuz theyre cool I have a GL1500 like in this video, and an HD Electra Glide (among others), and I wouldn't give up either of them. The GL is great for just jumping on and taking a ride. Besides the rubber timing belts that need to be done every 75k ish/5 years, it's literally the most reliable vehicle in my garage. 170k on it and counting. the EG on the other hand has had constant oil leak issues and it's been through two sets of timing tensioners, one of which blew an engine (it's a pre 2007 twin-cam, so this is a well known issue). I could go on with issues with the Harley for days, but that's not the point. The point is the Harley is cool :) It sounds like a stereotypical motorcycle going down the road, it's painted bright colors and has flames on the fuel tank, it's loud, brash, and has tons of chrome. It's so much more fun to walk out to than my goldwing. Think about driving a modern Lexus IS-350/500 versus a 1969 Coronet 440. The Lexus is more reliable, functional, and probably quicker to 60 than the coronet, but the coronet is 10,000x more interesting. Some specifics that are fun on the harley; The pegs are way out front, so it feels like you're leaning back. Not optimal for around town or through a mountain pass, but fun on the freeway and looks cool The handlebars are way up high, and the seat is down close to the ground, so you gotta reach up a little more than most bikes, giving it a different feel It has a suuper old style dash and handlebars. The Goldwing's bars are covered in plastic, while the harley has big chrome bars and big chrome dials. It just adds to the old muscle car feel. Iunno, that's basically what a harley is. Rolling americana, it's awesome :D As a side note, the Goldwing is literally the second most boring bike I've had. It has damn nearly no character, which is both a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because i can't list a single thing it does badly. It's a curse because it makes the bike itself EXTREMELY boring. It's a bike you ride to get somewhere and not focus on the bike. "I'm taking a ride today" versus "I'm taking the harley out today." The GL, the ride is the adventure, the Harley (and most other bikes), the bike is the adventure.
@shivamarya52256 ай бұрын
You need to ride the current goldwing, it's more fun than a roadglide and makes more power as well 125 hp at just 5500 rpm. They've changed the whole bike, it has more features than a roadglide for half the price. The only reason to get a Harley now is if you like the looks and don't want to get looked down upon by Harley people who judge you for riding a Goldwing that's it. GW is plain better in ride and handling

I traded my 2020 Road Glide Limited for a 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT and have never been happier. The HD was like straddling a slow, heavy oven. Too hot to enjoy beyond 60 degrees. The Goldwing is all day easy and comfortable to ride and will run circles around the heavy American. I noticed you weren't able to put the Harley in reverse... Also, I had to spend an extra $1,200 for the HD heated seat, which in retrospect wasn't needed thanks to the rear cylinder crotch cooking feature it comes with.

I’d love to see y’all’s take on a newer Goldwing vs a Harley. The newer wings are apparently even better than the GL1500. And I mean newer as in any GL1800 so about 2002 and up 😂😂😂
@TheCallMeCrazy Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind there are three generations named GL1800 now! The '02-'09 got refreshed heavily for '10-17 and the 2018+ model shares basically nothing with the previous generations. I'd like to see the current bagger 'wing vs this Harley for sure.

@@TheCallMeCrazy that’s exactly what I’m saying. And any of them would probably be better than the CVO. Of course I’d love to see a flagship 2023 go head to head with the Harley but I bet that a sub $10k 2010 would be a good comparison too

Fun video. The low center of gravity on the Goldwing sold me. I'm not a big guy, so it's easy to ride, and the DCT is even more so. I had a Road Glide some time ago and love the shark nose fairing's style. Ride what makes you happy.

The fact that the GW is in such usable condition at twenty years of age is both a tribute to the excellent quality of the parts and the wonderful build quality, and also means that it has received the essential servicing it needs to stay alive for such a long time. Nowadays it probably deserves a major service so that it can roll around laughing for tens of thousands of miles again :D It's a wonderful machine!

That's the beauty I'm the Honda. You can beat it and not maintain it and it just keeps running.... (I wouldn't personally very strict on maintenance)... the HD will fail and leak oil and cost a fortune to fix even with proper service.
@jerlaine1638 Жыл бұрын
@@shelbyhammons9290hey if I were you, I'd lay off the crack. Any vehicle will have issues regardless of make if you don't properly service them. Now the Harley will likely have issues because of the VVT, but other then that they're actually fairly cheap to rebuild. Might want to look into it before opening your mouth

I bought a 89 Goldwing when i was 19 years old. To this day one of my favorite bikes. I have had 16 motorcycles from sport bikes to naked bikes to duel sports ect. My last bike was my favorite 2020 Yamaha MT09. But that old ass goldwing is my 2nd favorite bike. It had 100k miles when i bought it. I literally would get friends to sit on the back and we could do a wheelie. If nobody was on the back it would do a rolling burnout. Bike was only a beast for its size and age. I drove tf out of it for a little over a year. Nothing ever broke on the bike it was fantastic to drive.

The CVO Road Glide Limited does come with a backrest. The bike you guys had doesn't seem to have been a Limited, just a standard CVO Road Glide. If that is the case this bike is only around $43k unless you're including potential markup for the dealerships. Still a staggering price difference.

No offense, but you're probably not riding much if you are noticing a difference in bicycle tube quality. The 1100 is quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 1500. The 1500 is 13 sec in the quarter mile, the slowest Goldwing built. I have an 84 1200 Interstate and 97 1500 SE. The 4cyl Goldwings rpm limiter is much higher the the 6cyl. 7,500 rpm for the 1200 5500rpm for the 1500. The 1500 is a torque monster 100hp, 110ftlb torque. 1200 is 94hp ,80ftlb. 12.5sec quarter mile. Both have a top end around 115mph.
