Hey Tom, the past month I have played two open mics as a guitar accompaniment for my friend. These shows being the first time playing guitar in front of strangers. I remembered you talking about the old southern joke so I tried to take my time going into solo sections and just feel it out. I still think I rushed a bit, but I’m glad to have help from all your videos! I will master the flow of taking it slow someday.

I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see a guitarist on KZbin perform a solo that’s comprised of tasty licks and melodic structures, and is not someone just trying to string together notes as fast as humanly possible. Beautiful playing, sir. #sickofshred

Two things i would say here: (1) really nice bass lines, very musical. (2) Even in this simple looping example, your bass is perfectly balanced with the rhythm guitar track, which is a reflection of your studio knowledge & experience. Well done. Thanks for shring.

Dearest Uncle Larry, longtime supporter and multiple shirt owner! Thank you for being the best thing guitar related on youtube or anywhere else for that matter. Since you've brought up Robocop so many times and I as well am a massive Paul Verhoeven fan, I decided with my band to make a fully realized rock opera based on Total Recall in every vivid detail. It just came out and I'd love to send you a copy. With respect and humility, Cold Engines

After finding you on the interweb picked it up again doubting that i could do it as being in my sixties and with new meds in our world now found out i could play again, Sure my friends made fun of me , shit you will never play again, well uncle tommy i'm back You drove me to set high again now back in the saddle, The age screw it playing like i'm a kid again. Another wonderful Volume Tom/Uncle Larry. 5 string bass story to funny. like when I moved to Franklin, TN and played an E flat 9 chord, person stopped me as said " man that chord is illegal in Nashville" I'm like laughing because coast music uses it. so I thought he was joking. Damn if he wasn't right, that fast I knew country session work wasn't for me. so I did my own thing and never looked back. This is why what you said about the 5 string Bass made me roll on the floor. Enjoyed it and when you do your grooves enjoy improving. Keep up the Volumes and Cranking the volume, Chris Nashvillerocker DiMella

My goto bass is a Modulus Quantum5, with EMGs. My baby ❤ I keep a P and a J bass handy for those times when nothing else will do; or just for a change of feel. That 'Pickin' style on bass is something I came to later in life; particularly when I started playing more thin string guitars ... It offers some different rhythmic options. Great for mixing it up.

Hey Tom, you ever have days where the mojo just ain't there, you're just not feelin it? Then other days you're on fire and the music is just a flowin ? I think we all have those days. What do you do, being a studio cat I'm sure you've had those "bad days". What do you do to overcome it? Drink a Rollin Rock?! On another note, I've been working on my bass playing the past few days in order to make cool backing tracks. It's much harder than it seems. Thanks for showing us how it's done!
