Astana mechanics were asked about Cav’s chainrings following yesterday’s stage and they said their testing shows they’re slightly stiffer than latest versions It’s VERY common for Cav’s chain to come off when he wins as he just stops pedalling slowly. Look back at 2021 wins, did it every time
@trev-trev

Can you explain the chain falling off part? Why?
@kkiwirocks
@kkiwirocks 2 күн бұрын
@@trev-trev they explained it in the video as well, if he backpedals, the chain stops on the chainring while it's still moving on the freewheel, throwing it over in front
@pantster9855
@pantster9855 2 күн бұрын
@@trev-trev try spinning at 1000 watts+, 110rpm+ and immediately stop, or even backpedal slightly and see what happens. The chain still has momentum and will skip off the teeth of the chainrings. Happens often for Cav who, when he wins sits up and stops pedalling sharply. If he doesn't win then he lays off power less abruptly and even just rotating the cranks prevents it. It's no big issue, if he needed to continue through the finish zone just pedalling would almost certainly re mount the chain

I think on the chainring front.. R9200 are available in 52t and 54t. Cav was running R9100 in 55t. Possible that’s the biggest commercially available Shimano chainring he can get hold of.
@RyonBeachner
@RyonBeachner 2 күн бұрын
The chain line is dictated by the spider, not the chainrings if I recall correctly. Also, his chainring was a 55T, which isn’t available in 9200 even for pros. That said, the 12 Speed chain is perfectly functional, and actually quieter than the 11 Speed chain on 9100.

I run Dura Ace 11s. And when my 11s cranks (54/42) were warranty replaced by Shimano, they sent back a 12s Dura Ace crank with 11s chainrings (54/40). I can also sprint on fast group rides up to around 1100w and I can't fathom why his chain always seems to disengage like that. The notion some people make that the freehub is still trying to spin while his crank is stopping seems so ridiculous (I mean the chain is driving the cassette and when you stop pedaling, you stop moving the cassette). Conspiracy theory here 👀: Motors are causing chain suck. Somebody do some testing with a motor and then stop pedaling while the motor tries to continue.

For the record, XDS more than just an OEM company, it makes all kinds of bikes and has a full range of offering from entry level bike to their top of the range X-LAB (XDS's top offering). Their market share are just as big as Giant in mainland if not even bigger. However, their operation is relativly regional so outside Asia they are not known by many people.

I'm not sure why nobody is mentioning it, but I think Cav didn't go for it because of the issue with drafting his team car earlier in the stage. He had words with the race referee and I think they probably told him that he was going to be penalized or something of that sort, so he just took himself out of it. That's my thought, but I could be wrong. Maybe he just didn't have the legs? But after the previous stage, I just don't think that was the issue.
