I've watched almost every video you have, very good information and documentation. Very smart to make a video on how to take it apart, so you can be 100% sure it goes together the same way. I'm sure by now you're running out of things to work on!

Do you have a video on how you clocked the rings/pistons for this exact E46 or any other car? And is the way you clock the same for every car ?
@junkdubious6 жыл бұрын
Maybe this has already been answered? But aren't M54 engines sleeved? Instead of measuring bores wouldn't you just have the block re-sleeved? Maybe have those sleeves over-bored and/or flanged?

To figure out what bearings you need couldn’t you do : ((bearing bore dia- journal dia) - desired clearance) /2 ?

When are you doing the review on the torque wrench. Great price and lots of features.
@50sKid8 жыл бұрын
You know I don't really like it that much. You have to wait a few seconds each time you want to enter the torque angle mode. If I had to use it a lot every day I would return it and get a snap on one. But that's expensive...
@jesselyons20028 жыл бұрын
Have you used the snap on techangle one.
@50sKid8 жыл бұрын
I haven't but I've seen it used and it's definitely faster. Also, with the one I have, I've noticed that the torque angle mode isn't very accurate if you have to reset the wrench--there is a good deal of slop in it which distorts the angle reading when you reset the position.

Hey @50skid I commend you on your knowledge but I have a question for you I know you've picked this up over time and kind of learned on your own as you go but where do you do your research do you do your own research on the forms before the videos make yourself an equated with it and then explain yourself in your own words or is this something you've done before and are aware? Because I know you don't regurgitate the information like some KZbinrs just repeating what other people say it's almost like you've had to act for it and done it previously and very confident in what you say
@50sKid3 жыл бұрын
It's a mix of reading books on engine rebuilding and my own experience working on cars. I haven't read the forums in a very long time because most of the people there don't know what they're talking about and, as you say, are regurgitating bad info. I only use the forums to find out about the common knowledge problems on a car I'm unfamiliar with.

The explanation is in this video, I believe. Or maybe part 1. The piston-to-wall clearance was out of spec so had I reused them I would have risked piston slap

Are the connecting rod bolts torque to yeild?
@50sKid8 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I feel BMW wants every single bolt is torque to yield, however I suspect only the headbolts are truly TTY. I can physically see the stretch in the middle of those.

Yeah , cuz I actually got same problem) I could see smoke come out of my exhaust on cold start ( also oil pressure light comes on so i know its burning oil , maybe its to thin for now 10w-30 pissing oil everywhere in the engine bay
@morane55248 жыл бұрын
What colour is the oil light? Tbh you cant tell if the engine is burning oil by the red pressure light. It would me that the oil consumption is so high that the oil pump cant hold the minimum pressure required, and that is just impossible.
@fde46838 жыл бұрын
Morane it's yellow and stays on for 5 seconds every time I start my cat.and smoke comes out exhoust
@morane55248 жыл бұрын
The yellow light should do this, it's normal. If the yellow light stays on it means that your oil level is low or more likely the oil level sensor is faulty which is the common problem with the engine. Mine is faulty and the yellow light comes on sometimes but since I check the oil level it's fine. This doesn't mean that the engine is burning oil excessively. Remember that these engines have 1L/1000km oil consumption tolerance.
