This is the first time in the field with the Savage 22-250 with the 53gr Nosler Varmageddon. I am impressed with the accuracy and terminal performance of this set up and can't wait to do more with it. As always thanks for watching, subscribing, and sharing!

In upstate New York I would handload a 110 grain speer hollow point for my 30-06 and it would literally cut one in half, My friend would handload his 7mm Remington magnum, before we both got 22-250's. We would average 315 a year each ( two of us) and we did that for 7 years before we retired from the 10th mountain Division. We had several connecting farms to hunt on and never put a dent in the population. I truly miss those days.

Awesome shooting, 110 laying them out. Love my savage 12 LRPV in 22-250, shooting 70 gr berger vld match out of a 1.9 twist barrel, interested to see how it does on a chuck.
@ChuckinTV

Thanks! I would imagine it would just poke a hole straight through given the long nose and tight hollow point. I could be wrong though. What kind of velocity are you getting out them?
@Velocity4000fps
@Velocity4000fps 6 жыл бұрын
The bergers will fragment on body hits and the base of the bullet will plow through leaving a nasty exit most of the time. Used the 105 in the 243 and 115 in the 25-06, they are devastating on anything from deer to varmints. I get the best accuracy at 3350fps, not nearly as flat shooting, but really makes a difference on windy days. Do some research on the berger hunting vld

Hi. I usually use factory ammo (Hornady 50gn Vmax) for varmint out to 350 meters so far. Gunna reload soon. Wondered about these Varmageddons, how good they were as the BC is high. I shoot a Sako 85 with 1/14 twist. would you recommend these rounds (53g) for varmint out to 500 meters ? or have you found a better projectile ? . BTW nice shooting !
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 жыл бұрын
I highly recommend these bullets for a 1-12" twist. I've found no reason to even try anything else out of this Savage. Truthfully I can't say whether they'd be good out of a 14 twist or not. They do have a bit more bearing surface due to the flat base rather than the boat tail that the 50gr Vmax has.

I remember purchasing my first "real" rifle at the tender age of 15, a Remington 788 in the awesome 22-250 brand new for $75!! I've now burnt through 3 others! I found it really doesn't matter what brand or barrel type, bullet weight or manufacturer, whatever you feed em' they shoot! Just remember to wear hearing protection, they're loud.

Whats the twist rate on your rifle? I'm trying to work out if the flat base 53gr varmageddon will stabilise in a 1-14". Nosler gave me a vague answer which was basically a maybe but I know the Hornady 53gr is a boat tail and they say it wont stabilise. Pretty sure both projectiles are the same length 🤷🏽‍♂️

Thanks. I use the 70gr Varm in my Weatherby 243 at 3700fps! 20gr more mass and 50fps faster than this 22-250 load. Devastating! I don't know if you've seen that video, but it is one of my favorites. Woodchuck Deathray Strikes Again is the title.
@klevee6076

leonard boufford what a total load of nonsense. First off a 70 grain in 22 cal will typically have a higher bc than a 70 grain in 6mm. Same goes for any weight bullet when comparing the caliber. As far as accuracy is concerned that’s 100% dependent on the shooter. Consistency however will of course depend on many factors. Think on your comment for a bit. See where you were slipping
@leonardboufford282

I guess a few of you folks didn't realize that nosler makes a 55gr for the 243. That's fine. Barrel heat is yea, if you shoot enough to heat up the barrel. I normally don't have that issue. But chuckin' is right about the 70gr. I have some but haven't shot up the 55's yet. Eat your crow.

I shoot a 7mm WSM out too 1250 on goats. Rabbits have started to really build up were I live and I'm thinking 22-250. I was very impressed with those 2 long shots in that wind. I'd say you had a good 6-8mph. Good shooting and I think you just convinced me this is the caliber I want for these rabbits. I liked the raw style of your video too. You hunt just like I do. I clear the field of everything. We cull goats here by the thousands. But with the Indians building up here in NZ the farmers have been selling them so goat shooting has been pretty limited the past few years although they are also getting out of control now.

Thanks! I usually leave them where they are so scavengers can find them easily. Some farmers prefer putting them back into the hole. This might seem wasteful, but I've never seen a woodchuck carcass last more than a few days. We have a lot of fox, hawks, buzzards, you name it that take care of them. I am mostly doing population control on woodchucks because they can cause a huge amount of damage to hay fields, pastures, and even building foundations. Thanks for watching.
@jimfrazier7143
@jimfrazier7143 6 жыл бұрын
Chuckin' I understand completely ! The reason I ask is their carcasses are sought after by trapping bait and lure makers for canine baits and lures. Seems you all really put the smack down on them and thought you may make some money on them vs leaving them if you can find a bait/lure maker.

Like everything, it's all in how you prepare it. You can make it unpalatable, or so good, tears of joy and contentment seep down your cheeks. Most folks wait until they are in their 80's or 90's to finally try something new, figuring they've got little to lose. Something they've rejected and avoided their whole life, only to be amazed and saddenly crushed to realize they've missed out on all those years of joy ...

@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 5 жыл бұрын
The 243 will launch a 70gr bullet at the same speed as a 22-250 with a 55gr bullet. I do prefer the 243 for it's knock down and better wind deflection at distance. The 243 with a 100gr is great for deer as well and I don't really recommend the 22-250 for deer. I do find myself reaching for this 22-250 more often for chucks though. This Savage is just crazy accurate and very cheap to load for. Thanks for watching!
