Pikmin 2 is my favorite one in the entire series, the fact they brought caves and treasure back, as well as basically white Pikmin (ice Pikmin freezing enemies when eaten) makes me happier than anything else that happened recently!

The Ice Pikmin freezing enemies actually doesn’t have anything to do with them being eaten. I thought the same thing at first, but looking through the footage again you’ll notice a cyan meter forming around the Bulborb’s health bar that fills up as more Ice Pikmin latch on, independent of whether they’re being eaten or not. The meter is filled up by throwing the exact moment that an Ice Pikmin is digested, so it’s hard to say whether throwing, digestion, or both are responsible for freezing.

My main issue with the trailer is the fact that the ice Pikmin’s secondary purpose is freezing water so the player and the Pikmin can cross without a problem, but Oatchi (The Dog) can also help the player and the Pikmin cross bodies of water by acting as a boat of sorts. If Ice Pikmin can already freeze water to help the player get across, then why does Oatchi have this feature? If both have the same ability, one will always be rendered somewhat useless. Just something that caught my eye.

It seems the bigger the body of water, the more ice pikmin you need, meaning there are bodies of water that possibly cant be frozen, or you cant use enough ice pikmin to solve a puzzle or something. either that or it sacrifices the ice pikmin, as they seem stuck in the ice

Could help with getting treasures and loot back to the ship. Oatchi may be able to get your squad across, but the ice pikmin can create a frozen path for the pikmin to safely carry things while you perform other tasks.

My main worry with it is that it might make Blue pikmin too useless. So far, Blue pikmin's only use is to get to places across or under water. If they don't get a new purpose, then I will not find a purpose to use Blue pikmin other than getting some thing underwater but that would give the blues the same purpose as the Yellows did in Pikmin 1.

My theory for the night mode is that the star bits that you’re trying to collect are what’s driving the bulb orbs extra crazy. In previous games, night is portrayed with no glowing eyes at all. Maybe you have to collect the star bits before going to the big rocket because the star bits cause the enemies to be strong enough to break the hull.

Ok so here's a theory. So those star bit things are white ,purple, light blue, and orange. On the trailer thumbnail, it clearly has white and purple pikmin. Maybe because they don't have an onion you bring the star bits to the onion to make purples and whites. (Also ice pikmin don't have an onion so maybe it's like that for them too.) Each pikmin game has introduced 2 new pikmin at a time. Those orange star bits? Orange pikmin.

Like Spark937 said, you can see some green star bits in the leftmost pile in the opening shot where the piles are introduced. My variant of this theory is that the orange star bits are dedicated to Oatchi since he has orange spots, and it’s the green ones that hint towards the final new Pikmin type. That, or the color of the star bits are tangential and don’t have any bearing on the Pikmin types you’ll be using in the game, sort of like the fruits in the DK rap being chosen out of rhyming convenience rather than deliberately tying into the fruits in DK64.

We’ve gotten 2 new types in every sequel so far, however I think Oatchi is supposed to be a substitute for a new Pikmin type, even appearing on the box.

Something I just noticed is that blue and ice pikmin are never in your group at the same time. I think this means you can “evolve” your pikmin types so they do different things. Blues and ice pikmin both take care of carrying things across water, so I think it would make sense you can choose either. Also water and ice are just different forms of the same thing. Of course I could be missing something or it’s just a coincidence.

I think there might be at least three areas in this game. The area of the first trailer has been confirmed to be a park, so there has to be another one that is a house garden. Also, a japanese-style garden with Sakura trees (I think they are called that?) is briefly shown.

Actually, all of those are the same area, you can briefly see the Sakura trees in the same shot as the park as well as the garden so they’re most likely the same area. If this game follows Pikmin 2&3 then this is most likely the spring area.

I'm thinking it's going to be one big area, rather than 3 or 4 segments. That's just my thoughts. You can probably fast travel to different spots after you unlock them during the nights but I imagine you'll slowly unlock new segments along the way in one big area.

Just a theory but it seems that the place with the massive rockets ship is a base of some sorts as the three over captains don't seem to come with you and the main gameplay just seems to be the purple haired charecter with a mini treasure ship. So maybe theres a base building aspect to the game where you venture out and collect treasures and the three over captains work from the ship at your base giving you advise and hints.

Here's my ideas: - each of the captains have different abilities (ex: one captain is faster, one captain can throw farther, one captain throws faster, one captain has bigger whistle radius) - green pikmin: can camouflage your team, especially useful at night (Need certain amount to camouflage entire team) - spore pikmin: light up dark areas and stun some enemies because light-sensitive eyes - yellow pikmin: can home-in on enemies using their ears to swivel in directions (don't ask why) ●Boss Battles: - underwater boss: only blue pikmin can be in team in first phase But second phase in muddy water area like Quaggles Mireclops - flying boss: same thing but with winged pikmin - night boss: gargaros from yo-kai watch (if you know, you know) ●hazards: - electricity = instakill Water = saves by blue pikmin because freezing the water will just make them stuck

1:41 I would say that the dog creature is not native to the planet! Olimar himself was talking about his dog in Pikmin 1 together with a drawing and he is mentioned in Pikmin 2 by his family. The name of the dog is Bulbie and I remember that he thought that the Bulborbs kinda look like him and that's why he called them bulborbs. Bulbie seemingly has eyes like a bulborb, unlike Oatchie. But that could be due to that there are apparently different breeds, as that Shepherd character mentions. Also, she saying "that is actually quite typically for his breed" also suggests that the dog is not native to the planet, they apparently brought them there. Also the Captains have pointy ears like Hocotations have.

Maybe before each night, you get to leave some Pikmin behind to help with the night mode, with the goal would be to get as many starbits as you can. This would make the night mode very difficult, since you only have access to the Pikmin left behind, and the borbs are out hunting.

I hope that for the nighttime stuff it’s literally just you being able to stay on the planet during the night and things just get incredibly difficult. Like let’s say your still in the middle of trying to get a treasure or fighting a boss and it’s almost the end of the day, you can choose to stay during the night to finish those things but you need to be much more cautious due to the nocturnal enemies going nuts. There could be benefits to going out at night too, like the idea of you being able to get different types of pikmin you can’t normally get. Just thought that idea could be cool but I do think that the night stuff will be left for the other captains who’re stuck on the planet.

Also I haven't seen anyone mention this but it seems like the new captain is a girl which makes this the first game to have a main captain be female, Pikmin 1 & 2 had Olimar as the main captain with Louie and the President acting as the second captain and then in Pikmin 3 Alph was the main captain with Brittany as the second and Charlie as the third (and technically Brittany is the third captain you can play as in Pikmin 3 as you control Charlie in the opening then switch to Alph and then rescue Brittany) Also I'm not sure if all the scenes are from one area as some scenes have cherry blossom petals fluttering down and cherry blossom trees in the background, given that the areas from 2 and 3 were themed around the seasons maybe this is the case here with two areas themed around spring and summer hence why they seem so similar

I think that for the night mode there will no longer be a garunteed death to sunset and instead it just makes the game more dangerous so it is a mad dash to get to base or suffer from potentially loosing pikmin while offering stealth segments and itd also keep some of the real time strategy from 1 where unlike in 2 time will still resume in caves but you dont just lose to sunset anymore and that the onion taking off is just the cutscene for making it off in time and they just showcase a little bit of nighttime so people can speculate about it rather than being a seperate difficulty mode or harder game difficulty

I think that night will fully replace the sunset death method and instead just be a mad dash to base during a patrol segment with stealth elements rather than being its own mode and that the onion leaving wasnt connected to the night showcase in the trailer and that it was just meant for a reveal and the onion wont leave and you wont take off until you put your pikmin away. This would make both fans happy in my opinion where the pikmin 1 players still have the time sensitive nature to complete the caves before night strikes without having any extra dangers or "time" in the caves pass if you are willing to stealth back to base

Honestly... I have mixed feelings. Its exciting for sure, hyped for it to come out. But also I wish the onion didn't get ANOTHER redesign, its inconsistent and this new one looks kinda bloated. They should've kept the one from Pikmin 3 because it doesn't make sense for the onion to evolve backwards or whatever (unless this is secretly a prequel? Unless time is moving backwards it doesn't make sense for there to be so much modern stuff around everywhere... that house looks completely intact. Not what you would expect from a planet that's devoid of all human life for hundreds of years). As "cute" as the dog thing is, it would have been way cooler if they'd gone with the Bulbmin-Bulbear ally they had in the concept art for Pikmin 3. It seems to serve the same function. Also, Blue Pikmin, Ice Pikmin, AND the dog are all used for water-related things. If freezing water is one of the Ice Pikmin's only gimmicks, it'll be useless outside of battle since Blue Pikmin can already carry things through water, and the dog can get the rest of the Pikmin across just fine. Freezing water is neat but we already have ways to cross water without it... I hope they do more with it than just what they've shown. The way you described it, "really weird" but still cool pretty much sums it up. It feels bizarre, and very different from the previous games.

First of all, I'm insanely excited for Pikmin 4. BUT, I do have a few gripes. My biggest issue is the character designs for the captains. I absolutely hate them honestly. They just look... plastic-y and weird? The design for the lil dog thingy gives me hey pikmin vibes which I'm also not a fan of, but mechanically it seems like an amazing addition and I'm excited to ride around on it! So glad to see the caves return tho. Ice Pikmin design is okay but they seem really awesome mechanically. Overall I'm super hyped for it! I just really wish they'd change those captain designs and give them some more character or something cause rn they incredibly stale and the Captains are an important part of the Pikmin journey!

I think that they have the poison effect. Which hopefully means that white pikmin will be in the main story mode. Of course the 2nd boss in pikmin 3 used poison but white pikmin were not in that games story mode

Pikmin 4 definitely looks weird. Which is good. Pikmin 3 was way too safe. Pikmin is supposed to be at least some level of weird.

Ok so here's a theory. So those star bit things are white ,purple, light blue, and orange. On the trailer thumbnail, it clearly has white and purple pikmin. Maybe because they don't have an onion you bring the star bits to the onion to make purples and whites. (Also ice pikmin don't have an onion so maybe it's like that for them too.) Each pikmin game has introduced 2 new pikmin at a time. Those orange star bits? Orange pikmin.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’m not a fan of the dog. It kind of feels like an overpowered pikmin and it takes away from the ant colony vibes that I love from those series. I’ll probably warm up more if it does have a major plot point, but when I saw it shatter those pots in the trailer I just thought that rock pikmin could probably do the same thing

Honestly, as much as I hate to say it, this trailer got me worried. The perfectly preserved house and human objects everywhere seems to contradict or retcon the lore of the other Pikmin games where PNF-404 is the Earth millions of years after the human extinction and I am even beginning to feel worried that we might see a human being in the game now. This also gets rid of the somewhat creepy and natural ambiance of the Pikmin games. The art style honestly does not look so good because it seems very plastic-y and cartoony. The nighttime supposedly being about Bulborbs with goofy red eyes is an immersion breaker as I and many other fans have probably spent hours trying to imagine that abominations that live at night. The dog doesn’t feel like a Pikmin creature at all and feels like it has been added into the game to add forced cute factor and market it towards children as well as seeming to be a walking easy mode. The new Ice Pikmins honestly have the lamest possible design they could have made for an ice-based Pikmin type and I am pretty sure the only reason people are not mad is because they are just too happy to see a new Pikmin type after so long. They also look like they will make the Blue Pikmins less useful by freezing water like that.

I’m a **massive** Pikmin fan. I’m defiantly gonna buy this game. But I gotta say, it’s… strange? The game looks stunning but the Ice Pikmin look odd, the whole vibe doesn’t feel like Pikmin, and honestly I don’t really like the captions. 3/4 of them look a little funky and 4/4 of them don’t seem like Pikmin characters and their suits are a little goofy. I was never a big cave fan but they might be easier this time around. The game feels a bit more like hey Pikmin in 3D and I feel like they made it look too new. I’d also like another new type of Pikmin and I think the onion doesn’t look that good. I think Oatchi will be useful, the ice Pikmin will be useful, the Pikmin are nicer, and treasure is back. I love the baby snagretts, and I’m not a fan of night mode.
