56 ford f600 cummins conversion test drive_0001.wmv

Used a 94 f700 as a donor vehicle and put the 5.9 cummins diesel into a 56 ford f600. used a fuller fs 5306 6 sp trans. out of a 95 f750, 3.31 ratio dana 80 rear end out of a 99 freightliner. The truck is geared to cruise at 1800rpm at 62 mph with the aux. trans in direct.

if those fire trucks are anything like fire trucks I worked on that rear diamond plate step is absolutely not made for towing. it only has thin bracing under it. It'd be like towing with side steps on a pickup.

good grief, 24 gears total! Be sure to get enough airflow through IC, maybe fit a marine air to water intercooler; a mate got one cheap second hand off ebay, about 12-18" long x about8" diametre, then fit small auxilliary radiater for water and an electric pump?

You could have skipped on installing the whole clutch fan assembly and gone with electronically controlled electric fans and you could have installed the air-to-air cooler in front of the radiator. Just a thought

+Bill Hill My 56 has hydraulic brake master cylinder below the floor. You remove a trap door to add more fluid to it.

it's like driving a motorcycle, raise the rpms slightly higher than you would when using the clutch and put pressure on the shifting peg, let off the throttle and it pretty much pulls itself into the next gear from the light pressure...it's also called something like quick-shifting when you race bikes... I believe they do something similar in big rigs so I see no reason why you couldn't in other vehicles

Punch louvers into your hood so the intercooler do its job, use over on the aux so you can cruise at around 1,200 rpm instead of 1,800 (you can lug a 12-valve, you know) and for God's sake, stop floating the gears on a synchronised transmission. You're going to tear your synchros up.

An air to air intercooler (charge cooler) will not cool the hot charge air if it doesn't have cooler air flowing through it ! Sitting above a hot engine without cool air flowing through the core will achieve nothing. AND the loss of flow caused by the restriction of the cooling core will also reduce power.

@@muffdiver777yummy8 I assumed as long as it goes in easy without grinding, it's not hurting anything, But the biggest thing I ever drove was a Jimmy with a 2 speed rear, besides rarely using the clutch, I also usually only used 2nd and 4th gear when it was empty.
