Great to see you back:) Cracking job as always!! I love wiring, I too made my own harness for my CX, it works out a lot easier than chopping the original. I was lagging behind you in my build, but because of your fowl hot temps where you are(you lucky Bxxxxxxxxd, it freezing here in the UK) I've caught up. Keep up the good work

Thanks Alan. Still too hot. Some parts of Australia will reach 45 today. Still can't get a full days work.

Hi, great channel. Just acquired my own CX500 and I've been learning a lot about these bikes from your work. Just wondering about the relay you have connecting the neutral light and clutch. Is that a standard relay or did it come with the bike? Curious as to why there are only 2 cables coming out of it? I also have the same m.unit setup, but not that there yet with wiring it up. Thanks

Is it possible to get that nice picture in the beginning for print so i can have it in my garage beside the build?

maybe you have an answer for me not sure 1980 gs450L it appears to have a cdi not sure if its the same as cx500 would you happen to know if the m unit blue wiring would work ?
@TheOdontologist4 жыл бұрын
M unite will work with any ignition system. Some rewiring will be needed for peripheral items like turn signals etc, and kill switch will be disabled. Revival Cycles has a good video on wiring up an M unit.

great vid.. Can you confirm if that MOSFET reg is genuine? seem to get a lot of phonies. Also what size wire is needed for battery to ground connection? cant seem to find anything - just 6mm2 needed for positive side. cheers!
@TheOdontologist Жыл бұрын
Same for negative would be a wise choice. As far as reg/rec...I genuinely purchased it. How would one know if it is genuine? And what does genuine really mean? So I can't answer your question.

Nice job on the video you have put a green red wire from the solenoid for the neutral light , I was wondering witch pin you came off with this wire as I have a similar solenoid but all the four pins are taken up with 1red wire going to m unit,2 red wire going to regulator ,blue wire going to start on moto gadget unit and black to earth so no space for the red green wire. Your help would be very appreciated thanks richard
@TheOdontologist4 жыл бұрын
Why 2 red wires to regulator ? Are they twins? Only need one I think. But I'm not a guru....just a hack playing with a toy. So don't take my word for it.
@richienicholls29884 жыл бұрын
Sorry ment from the 4 pin plug there is 1st red wire to m unit 2nd red wire to the reg 3rd blue wire to start 4th black wire to earth You mentioned on your video that you brought a green and red wire out of the 4 pin plug to keep the same colour as the original honda wire diagram I was wondering what pin you come off. Red and green cable is for clutch switch so engine won't start with out clutch engaged and also neutral light

Excellent channel. I have a Honda CX500 of the year 79. The CDI does not work anymore. How can I buy this ignition system? Can you guide me?
@TheOdontologist5 жыл бұрын
Thanks EnatorV. This ignition won't work on your bike. You will need an Ignitech, which uses your old stator, but better is to buy a Rae San ignition that relaces all your 40 year old components. Have a look at this site www.rae-san.com/products/cx-500-cdi-ignitions/

Your channel is great and has helped me so much!! I'm trying to figure out the ignition wiring part right now (my last part of wiring) but I have an ignitech. I see you have the neutral wire split - one to the neutral switch, the other to the clutch switch, connecting both to the relay. Is there a way to do it without a relay? Would I just connect the wire from the 4th pin of the solenoid to the neutral switch and clutch switch? Thanks so much!
@TheOdontologist4 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie and thanks for comments. If you're referring to a solenoid switch on the the ignitech, I'm afraid I can't help. I have no experience with the CDI versions of the bike and how the Ignitech relates to them. My CX is a transistorized ignition machine. The clutch neutral circuit is the same on both though, so if both wires pass throught the same switch it should work. Cheers.
