[58] Broken hinge; screen falling off of an HP 12b-ca0500sa x360 Chromebook

This HP 12b-ca0500sa x360 Chromebook had one hinge completely broken off of its lid, and the other hinge was hanging on by just one screw. We took it apart and glued things back together.

That hinge is infuriating my family is all convinced that I broke one of our family computers and refuse to believe it was the fault of the model when I'm old enough to get the cash to get it fixed I'm going to make sure they get educated in how most laptop hinges are built to support the screen frame unlike this one

Hello I have something to say please reply help, Hi, Greeting or good afternoon i'm and I had an argument with my mom she picked up my chromebook by the screen and swung it but it didnt come out her hands I heard a crack where you open your chromebook but opening it too much and the hinges will break and well when i turned it on, Screen wasent cracked,sound still there,But the screen have these lines one black thick line in the middle and two white thick lines in the top and bottom i cannot even see anything I need to fix it and I cant I really love this Chromebook help me please. I dont wanna use school Chromebook anymore its a hassle headache. please help man

To me that sounds like the LCD panel was damaged. The crack you heard was probably one of the layers inside the panel breaking, so even though it doesn't look cracked, it probably is cracked inside. If that's the case, you will need to replace the LCD panel.

Dismayed by the poor design and strength of the hinges. thanks for helping me decide against this otherwise great looking device that I almost purchased today! Good work with the repair but given the 360 folding, I'm not confident the hinge screw sockets will stay solid on superglue. May need a new lid eventually..

Thanks, and I totally agree. I did see this computer again a couple weeks ago (roughly three months after the hinge repair) for a different issue, and the hinge is still holding together.

hey my HP 12b-ca0500sa x360 Chromebook it fell from not far of the ground but its not turning on. on the left hinge its spit like a tiny bit and its not turning on. also on the front of the hinge it looks spit and i don't want to get a new could you help me? i didn't really watch the video, i don't have time to do that but i will try to watch the video Thanks.

This video shows how to repair a broken hinge. If the laptop isn't coming on, you likely have some other issue. Sorry!

And to think the places I've asked around refuse to fix my hinge because it's touchscreen which is really frustrating because I can't afford to get a new laptop right now is there a difference between this and a Chromebook?

Hi, i have a similar issue, at first, the hinge started to fall off, and the lid started to seperate. Then the screen started to seperate from the inside, so i used gorilla glue between the back lid and the screen to hold the screen and lid in place. Now my touchscreen isn't working. Do you think the gorilla glue messed up the insides and is preventing the touchscreen from functioning?

While that's possible, the issue could also be a torn ribbon cable from when the LCD/touchscreen were moving around. The only way to know for sure would be to take it apart and have a look. I'm not sure how you'll be able to do that, however, as Gorilla Glue is pretty strong stuff. I do know that acetone can be used to release Super Glue, and a quick Google search indicates that the same might be true of Gorilla Glue. You need to be extremely careful with acetone, however, as it will dissolve a lot of different things. Good luck!
