Your collection and knowledge is extremly impressiv. I wonder how you found all those rifles. And I have a question for you : I have a eagle arms 30. Cupfire revolver that's marked "A.P.C." (initials of the army inspector A.P. Casey). So those that mean it was a private purchase of an officer during the civil war and then appouved by the army ? Merci d'avance :)

Bonjour mon ami, I must preface my comment by saying that I am not a handgun expert. But,typically there will be two stamps on an arm that was accepted by the ordnance department. When the factory had completed arms on a government contract, they would request an inspector to come to their factory. If this first inspector accepted the arms he would stamp his cartouche on them. Then they would be shipped to a government armory where they be inspected again by the ACCEPTING inspector and get another stamp. On rare occasions it would be the same inspector again. Many revolvers have a different stamp on each grip. The Eagle revolvers ACCEPTING records, to the best of my knowledge have not been found or published. So your speculation of an officer making a private purchase is very likely, if it only has one stamp, as records do show that this was common for these guns. Best regards.....Doc

Yet another cool conversion. I am amazed at the ingenuity of the old timers, dancing around others patents to bring those muskets into the modern era. Looks like your getting some blow back, is that due to the shotgun cases are too thick to fire form? What do you use on the gun stocks to make them look so good? I like the wood ducks moment of nature at the end. Thanks for posting Doc, your video's makes my day. Gp

Hi GP, I didn't really feel the blow back but it is very evident in the video. I don't remember annealing the cases which would have helped. Every time you cut down a case to make a shorter one you do get into a thicker wall area, which was working against me also. So I agree with your assessment. Just several thin coats of gun stock wax rubbed to desired luster, but that gun is in excellent condition to start with. The Wood Ducks were right out the back door in the pond, but they are wild and very spooky so I considered myself lucky to have captured them. Regards....Doc

Hi Chris, Yes, the ammo build was time consuming, but as you said, she did shoot well. There is a lot of nice work in these old muskets, I am in awe of them, and that is even before they have been converted to something more grand. Best regards....Doc

This type of antique oilier can be found on e-bay, there is one listed now under the title "VINTAGE MINIATURE TIN POCKET OIL CAN PAT'D APRIL 23, 1895" Many are missing the cap and pin that is inside the cap, so look for that before purchasing. I'm guessing, by the felt wad and corn meal, that you are using a reduced load for your cartridges. How much difference in powder charge?

I typically shoot about half loads in my old guns, so 30 grains of FFg, Swiss powder, which I believe is hotter that the original powder was. Regards.....doc
