Hi Bex. First can I say thank you for your service to all those that have/are serving our country in the Forces. May you stay safe and return home soon. Thanks for the video. I have most of a 58 pat set. I use a climbing belt instead of the webbing. Feels more comfortable for me and I use a water bottle pouch and utility pouches around the belt. As has been said, not the best in the rain as it gets heavy, but does the job and cheap. Cheers Bex. Keep the vids coming.

The Pattern 58 in my opinion is good webbing.My question is why did the British Armed Forces keep using canvas instead of nylon like the ALICE.The Americans found out in Vietnam that cotton webbing sucked with the M1956 and brought in the M1967 which is nylon and survives to this day.By the 1970s it became the ALICE system which i used from the late 80s till 2006.The ALICE pouches including the butt pack can be installed on the MOLLE vest and body armor using the metalic aluminium attachment clips.To reduce weight i found out when i was stationed in Panama that using zip ties to secure all my pouches and butt pack took off almost 5 pounds and would not rubb on your skin during a hump in the jungle.I did this and passed the idea to my soldiers in the Reserve and Guard still using the ALICE gear.By 2006 i was issued the MOLLE for Iraq,it was good that no clips were needed and snap into place where you wanted your pouch to go to on your chest rigg or body armor just like your PLCE 95.The US MOLLE pack was a good design except for the frame which is plastic and cracked.I used the MOLLE assault pack or Sand Piper commericial assault ruck sack depending on my mission as an infantryman.The ALICE large pack is still a favorite even in Iraq when i was there,its durable and tough with its aluminium frame which i liked because when i was a Paratrooper in Panama it can withstand the shock of being dropped from a lowering line with a load of close to a hundred pounds of equipment inside of it and not break.The padding on the shoulder straps have water proof foam thats comfortable with heavy loads for miles and not dig into your shoulders,using parachute cord as a sternum strap between your chest you can breathe easy during marches.For me i still own an ALICE system for its simplicity.Im sure the British Army helped in designing the US MOLLE gear but the Pattern 58 is the classic modular system for infantrymen.I just wish they would have made it nylon.Great video Brother!

An great informative reply, but was only showing what a fiver can buy, no intention to battle in it, only to show other hobby alternatives to non mil.

***** An interesting aspect to other rigs, this is not the one I use to fish and hunt, my war is over so reuse kit for other aspects of interest, such as videography fishing bird watching, looks like this vid was over analyzed/

There was a nylon version, '72 pattern(?), when the components rubbed together you could hear them a mile away!

Got the main pack as a gift when I was about 13/14 years ago, slowly got other bits but never found a yoke or ponch roll, I just macgyvered a yoke/straps so I could use it but many happy (And plenty not so) miles carrying that as a kid, solid kit that needed a solid back to wear haha.
@bexbugoutsurvivor2 жыл бұрын
The yoke ain't too comfy. I prefer the Osprey platform rig, you can build one up pretty cheap, and adapt the pouch size and type to you own requirements....I also used colour water proof dye on my canvas 58 belt order....kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKjJnmWwp8l7ps0

Just göt my 58 webbing set got it together in great condition, although after adjusting I think its riding high on the body, I can't drop it down to my hips was this the right manor to wear?

.hi mate don't know why you like the kiddy pouches ? a pain to use and bounced all over the place when on a run , we used to stitch them together as a one pice of kit , or binned them for extra pouches as you get more room in them , I used the 58 for most of my time in service and had a love hate relationship with it, ( loved it in the summer ,hated it in winter )

sure know where your coming from, but now mine is for civvy street (fishing and photography and so on). The kidney pouches fit the mess tins and stove nicely , that's why i like them, no running for me now....winter requires everthing being bagged. My survival preps though are in my tac assault vest, and shelter clothing and long term rations are in my deployment bag for prepping only.....Bex

mate i've just bought the swedish medics pack LK 35 SJ, which has a space at the bottom. was thinking of attaching something onto that and am interested in the bag part of this - how many litres would you say the bag part of this holds approximately? and are there attachment straps that could be used to fix that to an external ruck frame? appreciate any advice!! and i realise your post is 3 years old!!! atb
@bexbugoutsurvivor7 жыл бұрын
The swedish medi pack and the one on my 58 pat are 35 litres, the 35 in the name LK 35 indicates its volume. At this point I will assume you have the frame, and would advise a conoeing dry sack to accomodate things like sleeping bag and fabrics. This can be attatched to the frame by bungee cords. A bivy or tarp or shelter kit should fit on the top under the flap I think. Fitting an extra pack under the LK pack may be a recipe to overload, taking into account the weight of the frame. Hope some of this was useful to you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y16wnZyces1_n5o Humble trekker will defo have better intel for you, try this link mate. Peace Bex

Thanks a million for this Bex, I've already spoken to HT - it was him i bought it off!! he advised similar with the dry bag option. I've got a British Army Arctic sleeping bag, that'll fit in snugly under the main pack - think the thing is i've just got an obsession with the LK 70 - and can't get one so am trying to recreate it - which is probably a bit silly. good man for getting back so quickly sir take it easy!! The water bottle pouches are genuine and the webbing works great in all weather with a bit of waterproof spray applied

У меня такой же РПС parten m58. It's a very good things. I like it)
For those who have served and "worn" the 58, an old saying, especially after a long exercise was "hope wife not in bath when I get home, cos webbing going to get wet".
@bexbugoutsurvivor10 жыл бұрын
Canvas surplus is a pain for staying wet as is my US ALICE, but found nothing that can transport camp kit as effectively for camping load outs,will study that saying some more until I understand it. LOL
