A lovely treat and privilege to be allowed to travel on the footplate David. Something I'll never achieve again so thanks for sharing the experience with us. The loco seemed to have quite a swift acceleration and pleasing sound. Chris

Many thanks Chris - it was a lovely day. My brother and I arranged a footplate experience day for my Dad, and I was lucky to be allowed on the footplate for the final run up the valley. 5820 is an impressive engine, and the driver commented that he'd love to let it loose on the S&C - I'd love to see that! Thanks again, David.

The K&WVR is a great (little) railway not too short or long (for the children) nice steep climb with great views and stations, had a cab ride in a class 20 a couple of years ago super. Your film also takes me back to younger days of firing on the Colne Valley Railway, K&ESR and NYMR, only trouble was all WD 0-6-0ST Austerities, at least I know the class well!

In Hungary, the S160 Steam Locomotive received the 411 Series. The Hungarian railroadmen gave him Truman a nickname.

Great video, love the S160s their chime whistle is the best. But this part 2 confuses me a little. In part 1 5820 is seen with the regulator mounted on the backhead of the boiler/ firebox. In this she's now got a roof mounted regulator.
@AndreiTupolev8 жыл бұрын
I've just had a look at that again, It's mounted on the back of the firebox but you pull it out to open it, appears to be the case.
@Linesider18 жыл бұрын
Andrei is correct - it's just an optical illusion in that shot - the regulator is mounted to the firebox. Many thanks for your kind comments.

I presume it stopped for the guard to close the gates at Oakworth then? Stormed away from there, interesting how much it rocks from side to side with the pistion strokes.

It's common on most 2 cylinder locos Andrei, hence the development to three cylinder and four cylinder especially on high speed passenger locos, to give a smoother footplate ride for the crews....Bob
