Quick summary of video, KTM 300 rider: “5miles of hell” Both SurRon riders: “ehh wasn’t too bad” 😂😂😂

Use a dunlop or Irc trials tire in the rear for a 21/18 setup. Definitely a game changer for a light bee. All the Hawaii trail riders use them on their light bees and ultra's and rip all different types of terrain Hawaii has to offer.

My buddies and I all have KTM’s and Light Bee’s and sometimes choosing the right bike is purely just based off of the work to fun ratio 😅

Came here mainly to see how the UltraBee would handle this and it didn't disappoint. Love this style of riding - slow, technical - can see how the 18/21 combination with gummies really works well here. Was interesting to see how the LightBee was compromised by tyre choice and lack of low end torque, makes it clear why a custom tune matters for the terrain you expect to hit. This sort of stuff needs lots of low end, instantaneous but tractable power that can get delivered to the surface without spin. My clutch fingers were sore just watching. Both electric bikes were clearly easier on the riders. Great job on the filming btw, really captured riders POV well.

i would have been surprised if the ultra? didn't do really well, slower speed, lightweight, loads of torque.... good video lads, enjoyed it

Had to laugh when the KTM guys said “I think that’s the hardest obstacle” and the Crux was still a long ways off. Enjoyed the video, think I might have to add an Ultra Bee to my garage.

Would like to see compassion between SurRon Ultra and a Husqvarna TE 150, or KTM equivalent 150.
@ChargedCycleWorks8 ай бұрын
that would be interesting, we'll have to see if we can find a 150, our buddy sold his and the 125XC we have is probably not a great comparison because it's a screamer without any torque.

Great Riding! Did the KO cut out at all when the rear wheel would hit a ledge? That used to be a big problem. The KO firmware also limits Torque at low speeds. What rear Gummy Tire were you using?
@ChargedCycleWorks11 ай бұрын
No cut outs, but the tune was really weak at low RPM and to be fair could be tuned differently. We run the IRC Gekkota tires on the Ultra Bee for Hard Enduro, they are the lightest gummy tires and super soft rubber and carcass to bend to all terrain. They are pretty incredible with a Plushie Moose bib in them. However moose tubes reduce the range slightly due to their weight. chargedcycleworks.com/products/irc-ix-09-gekkota-gummy-rear-tire-90-100x16?variant=43888862789848

Great video thanks. Ktm needed to be xcw with auto clutch and trials tire and would have been much better for this Hell ride. I bet a lot of people just turn around and go back. I wouldn't own a bike that runs out of low end so it looks like the Ultra would be my choice. 100 lbs less weight than the ktm means less physical energy and more fun in my book.

Just watched this again and that is truly a bad ass trail. Can;t believe the Ultra Bee cleared the crux in what looked like the first try ? Pretty impressive. Do you think having a clutch on the UB or another e moto would have been helpful on a trail like this ? Also I don't mind the whirring motor sound on the UB but that clacking drive train sound is really awful. I noticed it right away on a test ride I did on one. Don't think all the emotos have that annoying sound. About to test an Artic Leopard Snow Leopard bike in a week or so and see how it compares at it will be about the same size as the UB. Thanks for the comparison test ride.

For someone to ride his KTM on these kind of trails and complain about having to use his clutch so much. He should invest in a Rekluse Clutch and make his life so much easier and more enjoyable on these rides.
@Holden20908 ай бұрын
A good rider on the 300 smokes both ebikes...no disrespect, but when the 300 rider says that the lack of clutch on the ebikes is an advantage, the exact opposite is true for a good hard enduro rider. That said, the ultrabee just might be the ticket for someone who doesn't possess the skills to ride a 300 properly on much nastier terrain than 5moh (which honestly is most of us.) While a challenging trail, it's not really hard enduro with all that traction though.
@offgridwithdiv7 ай бұрын
I think he meant it more as an advantage in terms of less of something to worry about versus body positioning traction control and proper weighting of the foot pegs. Frees up your mental capacity to focus on those instead in more technical situations versus trying to keep the engine from stalling out or having the right amount of RPMs. Around the 9:00 Mark you can see him mention an example of this where he hit something wrong and lost his momentum with a stall and had to back up and start all over again versus where an ultra b would just tractor right over with all that torque and not having to worry about losing that momentum

Same could be said for the e-bikes , it’s the rider that makes a bike good at the end of the day

I’ve been riding hard enduro for 15 years on 2 strokes and have done a ton of riding in that area. An ebike can be an absolute weapon in hard enduro. I can ride way harder stuff on them, it’s physics. 140lb bike.

Why aren’t you guys running the x9000 on the UB?
@ChargedCycleWorks11 ай бұрын
We are running the X9000 on our racing Ultra Bee, next video will be about our experience racing it in GP (50-60 minute) races combination of MX and off-road. For the type of riding in this 5MOH video the stock UB has plenty of power, after this video was filmed we installed a Torp controller onto this bike to get some test time with it.
@Offthevoltz11 ай бұрын
@@ChargedCycleWorks I find my bike slower with x9000 and stock battery. Might be torquier because holding a wheelie is a tad easier. But my top end is 51mph it was 58-60mph with stock controller.
@tintin629111 ай бұрын
@Offthevoltz no stock ultra bee goes 60mph. Maybe 58 in the right conditions. Either way without a upgraded battery you aren't going to see speed increases. Unless u turn field weakening up which I dont recommend as the battery can't handle it but you will go faster if you limit it to 13k instead of 17kw
@Offthevoltz11 ай бұрын
@@tintin6291 we are splitting hairs here stock 56-58 ok. The issue is x9000 on stock battery is at 51mph and warms up the motor significantly more than stock. I bet it’s great on upgraded battery but it is not on stock battery.
