Great video. We were at each of the places you were at just about a week and a half earlier. I have the Sierra 3500 HD Duramax and it pulled my 15,000 lb 42 foot long Open Range 5'er through the Rockies from Michigan and back with no problem. Love the truck!

Awesome video of your camping adventures!! Your 5th wheel is very nice!! And yes, your GMC sierra 2500HD 6.6L DURAMAX w/Allison 1000 6-speed transmission can handle just about any towing duty!!! that's why i purchased the same truck only in 2012 year model & it runs like a champ towing my 24ft toyhauler & family with no problems!! thank you for sharing and looking forward to more camping videos! :)

Thanks for this - it's great to be able to see it all "first hand" so to speak. We love the North Rim. If you drive up there from the South, past Vermillion Cliffs, you go up this very dry desert road climb and then all the sudden you're in a lush alpine forest that goes for miles. It's always nice and cool in the summer. There is a campground about a mile down one of those forest roads off 67 about half way from Jacob's Lake if you go back again. I have to ask about your trailer/truck combo. It looks like you have tons of turn clearance even though you have a short bed and no slider? Did you do anything special to get more clearance? Also I didn't see the truck squat at all when the trailer loaded up the hitch. Do you have airbag suspension, by chance?
@tiverton7 жыл бұрын
cycloid No I didn't modify anything on the truck. The trailer tongue weight is only about 1700 pounds, and it does lower the truck's rear end by just about 3/4 if an inch. Not very noticeable. It actually makes the truck more level, as the rear rides slightly higher when empty. The trailer pinbox design allows for towing with standard bed truck with no slider. It sticks out forward of the trailer's front cap. Also the front cap is designed with recessed corners so you can make 85 degree turns without touching the cab of the truck. That was the selling point Carriage made in the sales brochure. Basically, turning while moving forward it is impossible for trailer to contact the truck. Backing up, I have to pay attention not to exceed 85 degrees. I replaced the original pinbox with 5th Airborne, which comes in many versions. They are identified by bolt hole pattern. I ordered the one that match mine so they are basically of the same design, but now I get much smoother ride from airbag in the pinbox, especially when crossing expansion joints on the highway.

We're picking up our "new to us" Domani 310 next week! Been looking for one for a while now. Could we ask you some questions about what you've learned over the years? Esp. curious to know about the slide mechanisms and whether you have an owners manual?! Thanks
@tiverton6 жыл бұрын
GSimcoe Sure thing. I never had any issues with slides. But I carry a cordless drill with a slide adapter that comes with Domani. It's a flexible rod that plugs into slide motors bellow the floor. It can be accessed through zippers under the bottom of trailer. Cordless drill is then used to turn the motor, should it fail. That way you can close slides and get home. Also inside, high above slide switches, are black switches which must be on all the time. I always check them before towing to make sure kids or guests didn't flip them off. These are slide brakes. Power is applied to motor to keep slide in place. The only time you would turn them off is when you operating slides manually using a cordless drill. Also don't run multiple slides, or both rear stabilizer jacks simultaneously. They share a fuse and it will blow if more than one motor runs at a time. Carry extra fuses of all amp. Access panel for DC fuses is in the front by battery disconnect switch and should have labels on the cover. It doesn't hurt to lube slide rollers on the bottom as well as chains under the floor every once in a while to keep everything running smoothly. It will relieve strain on motors. All of that is accessed through zipper panels below the trailer, or under the bed in the bedroom. Lube zippers too because road dust can get them stuck.

Huge help!!! A drill will go into our tool kit that we're packing to drive down for pickup next week. There's no owners manual with the RV so we'll be flying blind until we can get it all sorted out. Any tips or future contact would be greatly appreciated!!! There aren't many of the Domani's out there and the info on the web is pretty limited. My direct email is gsimcoe @gmail.com Thanks a million Grace and Joe

I really want to do this same trip and carry on through to cali but it's a long trip from Vancouver ...keep them coming and what are using for a camera and editing? Cheers from Canada

Justin Waite We just did a 25 day trip this fall from Vegas to Bryce, Moab, Yellowstone, Glacier, Mt Rainier, then to Portland, then followed hwy 1 to San Francisco, Yosemite, LA, San Diego, then back to Vegas. Unfortunately I didn't have memory cards to cover the entire trip. As you noticed, it takes time and planning to make videos, and it adds a level of complexity to our vacation. We did 5000 miles on that trip, mostly staying off freeways.

isn't the speed limit 55 mph for pulling trailers nationwide ?
@tiverton7 жыл бұрын
maximum woof No. California is one of the states that has 55. Most states are 65. Some 75. North Dakota 80 I think.

good video... but a word to the wise after about 1.5 million miles.... hail instantly equals lower speeds or park it if you can ...lessens impact...bigtime
@tiverton8 жыл бұрын
I know what you're saying, and I actually pulled over for a minute. But then I found myself sitting in a middle of a almost stationary hail shafts with hail increasing in intensity and size. So I decided to try to get out of it, by passing the storm that was slowly moving east, same direction I needed to go. What the video doesn't show is that right behind me were 2 dudes on Harleys wearing t-shirts and half helmets. Those guys were hard core.
