Well after a week of filming after work, I finally got a video done! This here's a Ford 100 garden tractor I took in trade for working on a Case 155. Neat addition to the collection... Hopefully come next spring I can get it cleaned up and finish going through it.

Sweet ride AND run! Maybe your pal swapped the plug out of something else because the 10 horse was no smoker. Just can't beat the old cast iron Kohlers. I never fool with jets. I just lay the carb clean and torch cleaners and compressed air to them and so far, so good. The float bowl on my 8 horse Briggs I/C was full AND bottom rusted out. Not any more and my 301 on the Gravely starter needed a tap to get cranking. Always something! GOOD going, Pal!
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
You might be on to something there. After about 5min it started to smoke some, then cleared off. I know there was a bunch of crap inside looking down the plug hole.... more than likely burning everything off. I probably could have gotten away with not pulling the jet on this one but I figured once it's all together that's when something would go wrong! I had an 8hp Briggs vert. on a Troy-Bilt brush mower that came in, it got water in the carb from sitting and rusted up... I had to hammer the bowl to break it free from the stem. I couldn't believe how much rust was in it. Thanks Lewie!

A FINE job! I've got an old Onan 2.5k 1800 r.p.m. generator out of a Winnie that smokes like a brush pile for 5 minutes when first cranked but never uses any oil. The 301 never even puffs. Amazing old engines. Keep hunting and yanking wrenches, Pal!

Wow that's a nice original machine Jake I love it! I used to have twin hydro Jake 1200 Chiefs in my pre-Sears days.lol. I kinda miss em. I did a rat rod theme one 1 and kept my flame stencils for the hood and fenders if you want to flame it out. lol jk Nice tractor my friend!

There's been a bunch of Jacobsen's around here for sale lately, most the same style as the Ford. From what I've read though these style fords are harder to find than the LGT's.

Jake, have you ever considered hollow ground screw drivers for this work? I did, and thankfully too, because having accidentally destroyed a few brass screws over the years with those 'ramped' straight bladed one's, I quickly learned that hollow blade screwdrivers were the way to go.( I did notice that's what was going on when you were trying to get that jet out )
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
I haven't. But now that you mention it I'm definitely going to look into them! Yep, the slot on that was was a bit worn but I managed not to strip it. It would definitely be nice to find a screw driver that fits better... Thanks Reg!

Give this a shot, main jet on top, seat and turn out 2 times. Idle jet on side, seat and turn out 1-1/2 turns. That should get you darn close then you can adjust when running from there.

@@5Tractorguy wow i really really appreciate the return comment/answer. Darn thing is thats exactly where i have thr high and low speed jets set already and no matter what i do it seems to be running rich. I've replaced every external component besides carb, fuel pump and points but i did totally disassemble and clean the carb as it was sitting for 7 yrs, disassembled and cleaned the pump and cleaned and gapped the points. Runs like crap and backfires like mad when k try to restart. I think the whole tractor would make a great boat anchor lol

Hey Jake , Does the deck have a cogged belt? Just picked up an old international cub with cast iron trans and diff in great shape except missing the starter generator. Was thinking of using a golf cart starter / gen as a replacement----what are your thoughts.
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Russ, that it does. Has the flat cogged belt going around the spindles. You should be able to if the voltage and direction of rotation is the same. May have to modify your mount a bit. I've thought of that a few times myself, I see them on Ebay and whatnot and have been wondering if they'd make a good replacement. I know you can still buy the ACDelco looking SG's new, but some are very cheaply made unfortunately.

Hi nice tractors. I am picking up a tractor. I am on the fence on which one. A Ford yt16h or simplicity 3310v. Do you have a preference. Maybe cons and pros. Thanks
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 4 жыл бұрын
I would most definitely go with the Simplicity 3310V Tractor. As long as the engine is in good condition along with the bevel gearbox under the seat, those older Simplicitys are great tractors. Easy to work on, plenty of attachments available (depending on your location) and much more rugged/durable than the Ford YT16H. The Ford seems to be more of a lawn tractor than anything. And for as often as I see those come up I'm sure parts and attachments aren't as easy to obtain. Simplicitys are common enough and you can still get plenty of parts for the cast iron Briggs engines.

Well that figures, they probably just don't want to order it. Those carburetors were used well into the 80's... I do have one kit left here, it's yours if you want it, $20 shipped USPS to TN. Email me through my secondary email at fretwater@yahoo.com and then I will send you my real email address that you can paypal/contact me at.

So i have a question, i bought a 1969 sears Suburban for a restore project, its going ok now but the issue i have is that they took all the plates off the engine and starter and frame, i cant find a rebuild kit for the carb. I think its ss15 but it mit be a 14 briggs? Were can i find a carb kit for thAt. I figure the 14and 15 take the same carb. Thanks for what ever help u can give me!
@5Tractorguy
@5Tractorguy 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, that stinks, I hate when people remove tags. They made an SS14 aside from the SS15 but it was only for one year. Either way, the carburetor kit is the same. You have the 4 bolt updraft carburetor correct? If so, the rebuild kit part numbers are... Stens# 520-630 Rotary# 7968. Either one of those numbers a lawn mower shop should be able to look up (and you can search 'em on ebay). Just make sure a shop doesn't nail you anything over $25, that what the list price is in the book. -Jake

If it’s actually a 69 then it’s a suburban 12. Ss14s where only made in 1971 and ss15s where only made in 1972. If it does have a Briggs updraft on it then if I where you I’d just buy the whole new carb from either I save tractor or amazon. I have run all 3 of my ss14s and my ss15 aswell as my panzer with those after market carbs. Hope this helps
