IN this video i bought 3 very common solar usb charge controllers or solar voltage regulators. I ranked them based on the voltage drop. you can use them in your solar usb chargers. or you can use a higher voltage source to run a 5V gadget.

hi, i have a 5v 6w solar panel just laying around, will that charge controller work with that? thank you
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 5 жыл бұрын
The charge controller converts higher voltage into 5 volts. If your panel is already 5V then the charge controller will give you a little less voltage. Since your panel is 5v, you can directly use it without a charge controller. Ps- i was looking at your channel and found that you are into drums, just wanted to say that i use to play drums few years ago.
@solderist
@solderist 5 жыл бұрын
ah. the drumming. that was one of my frustrations, i will go back into that when i retire. so about my question, you answered i dont need a controller. but we know that the sunshine is not constant so there will be dangerous fluctuations. if i use one of those, will the voltage and current be stable?
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 5 жыл бұрын
@@solderist yes the voltage will get stable. and the current will change as per the sunlight, which is normal.

Is it worth it to put a regulator on panels made to charge a cellphone with only 9 cells? I'm assuming the peak voltage couldn't be more than 4.95 volts. Seems like I wouldn't need a regulator on these unless it was because a device was just picky about rock solid voltage.
@p.granger8824
@p.granger8824 2 жыл бұрын
Upon further research it looks as though I couldn't use one of these regulators even if i wanted to. My open voltage was somewhat above 5 volts after all, but would be pulled down under load. It doesn't look to me like this is a Buck/Boost Regulator (The description of it's function in the video seems to be wrong). It only seems to be a Buck which means it can not raise the voltage only lower it. The rated voltage this board can take is 5 volts OR ABOVE so it doesn't boost anything. That explains why so many of these cell phone chargers you see for sale like the Renogy are 6 volts with a regulator. I'll just have to see how this does without the regulator. Each panel in this charger was sold to operate without one by only using 9 cells and not 11.

I have the same module that you tested in the sun, it actually works well. Sadly my solar panels are not really rated at what they advertised it to be. Otherwise it would have given me 1A on a sunny day. Does your panels give out 1A on a sunny day? Note: I got 2 panels rated at 5V 2.5W each but maximum I got out of it was 600mAh, planning to buy more. They were connected in parallel.

is it different from buck converters? i mean, can i use a buck converter instead of this ?
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 8 ай бұрын
yes , this is a buck converter that they are using in small chargers with a USB port at the output. so, yes you can use a buck converter as well.

HI can you please help here , so I have this 5V solar panel and i connected it to a 5V DC-DC voltage regulator... when i connect it to a phone it shows that the phone is charging but the battery percentage decreases instead of increasing. when the phone is off then it does increase but after a long time. is there a way i can use to get the phone charged even when it is not off. Please Help

The current of the solar panel is very less, you will need more panels for it to work and get some significant charging. Is your panel 5V or more than that.?

you need to add diode, that block the reversal of current
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 5 жыл бұрын
diode will only help if you are charging a battery directly. In case of a phone the phone charging circuit already prevents reverse current. In this case the phone is getting discharged normally and since the solar panel are not enough the phone is not getting charged,

What's your output of the adaptor?
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 3 жыл бұрын
it is rated at 2A max. your output will depend on the solar panel you are connecting. This is an old video but i think i got about 5V and 340mA.

Can I connect this type of connectors with a 100watt solar panel? Please advice me.
@gurribuy
@gurribuy 5 жыл бұрын
yes, it should work. But make sure it is not over heating if it overheats then i don't recommend using it. Also, for a 100w panel it is best to buy a bigger charge controller so that you can charge a battery and and your phone also.

Is the solar panel output voltage between 6 and 20 volts? Yes. The module will use 10 watts max. You can run 10 modules off the panel.

50W is not worth it. If you want to use a 50W solar panel just go with a normal solar charge controller that comes with usb ports and can also charge a 12V battery. However if you use these small charge controller they may get damaged.
