Thanks for sharing my 05 6.0 runs a lot cooler I was in the low 230s before I did the fan clutch mod now I barely see past 210-215 on coolant & oil temps

can you cruise 85mph towing or even 75mph with engine oil temp only 215?
@grumpysdiy4 жыл бұрын
In my truck I can do 75 on even terrain towing our keystone premier yes I can stay under those temps. However I don’t know anything out what your towing or where or with what.

IMO the best upgrade I've done myself, no more puking and A/C Blowing Cold at Stop Lights. There is a huge misconception that make people think they need studs and 90% of them are from EGR Deletes not bringing on the Electric Fan, Thus Boiling Coolant out the Degas Bottle.
@grumpysdiy Жыл бұрын
I agree my temps never crept up again, even a long pull of a grade would only raise the temp to like 206 F.

Stumbled across your videos and where the 6.0 is concerned you are clear, concise, and straight to the point with no filler. The info you give is always spot on too (coming from a diesel tech that works on these for a living). Good job. I wish more guys put information out on these in a similar format or at least with the data you always provide.

I don’t remember the month. Somewhere near the upload date. I remember in the end ish of the video I talk about how it is on the other side of that mountain.

That’s cool. We have huge grades and hot temp up in the mountains here in California. Clear lake was my hardest…. 235 up there. I saw improvements with my A/C too after I installed mine

just did this conversion with a BPD water pump in my 2004 f350..Ive got the EDGE monitor with a 50 hp tow tune. I tow a 7000 pound dry 30 foot travel trailer. Im guessing when we are fully loaded we are somewhere around 9500 pounds with the kids and coolers. I generally camp in the Graeagle,Ca area towing from Reno,Nv. Not a long haul by any means but some steep grades going through N395 and hwy 70 to Portola, Ca. I was use to seeing easily 215-225 oil temps..even seen it as high as 235 heading up to Oregon dunes last summer. I noticed after the conversion, no oil temps higher then 207. We are going to the Tetons in a week, well see how she handles the grades then, overall though I'm very impressed with this easy conversion. My truck is mostly stock, intake, exhaust and the 50 hp tune that's it.

Thanks for the video! Question, is that 7.3 fan conversion extremely loud or annoying just driving lower speeds around town? I don't mind a loud fan climbing hills etc but don't really want an annoying fan sound with just normal driving. When you start up on a cold morning and start driving does the fan sound pretty loud? Or is it only when the engine temp is up working the truck pretty hard towing a trailer? Thanks!
@grumpysdiy3 жыл бұрын
It is louder, but not a ton at city driving. I’m so use to it now though it doesn’t bother me. Also I used to have a 95 7.3 too so also used to the sound.

@@grumpysdiy It was a great help! I ordered the fan clutch and the adapter through your Amazon link. I figured if the noise annoys me it's only a $100 gamble lol I can always just go back to the OEM fan clutch if I want
@grumpysdiy3 жыл бұрын
I can tell you this. I figure out I had a head gasket leak. Leaking exhaust gas into the coolant. On up hill pulls with my camper the temps went from a normal 200 EOT to 235. Then back down to 200 off hills. So that goes to show how well it worked getting me home from Utah to Texas.

I just bought a 6.0 do you use tow mode? I’m picking my truck tomorrow with the usual bulletproof upgrades.
@grumpysdiy3 жыл бұрын
Yep I have a programmer on it, programmed to tow mode.
@strato_54593 жыл бұрын
for anything of significant load turn it on. it keeps the truck in the power band a little longer and helps big time with hill climbs and offers a little engine braking to help on the down hills. on my SCT x3 it has a few canned tunes, i use the "jake brake" setting and the aggressive tow haul and man it will keep 14,000 lbs in check with cruise on down hill no problem it is great. the settings are way better then stock but the stock setting is a must use as it just make everything feel better

How did the oil temps get get to the 170s. What was the temp outside?

Well with the mechanical fan clutch and exhaust brake when going down hill the truck cools off pretty fast.

@@grumpysdiy Awesome!!!!!!! I’m getting mine installed today, I had the same issues my oil temps were at 230ish and that’s with no tow going 60mph Weather was at 105. Did you get any kind of check engine lights for switching to a mechanical fan clutch?
@grumpysdiy4 жыл бұрын
No dash light, but if you put a scanner on the truck it pulls two electric fan codes. But it does not change the way the truck drives.

you know you can wire up a switch to the stock electric clutch fan, right?
@grumpysdiy3 жыл бұрын
👍🏻
@grumpysdiy3 жыл бұрын
But why would you want something else that could go wrong? The likelihood of a mechanical fan clutch failing over an electrical fan is significantly less. For instance, I could be in the mountains and the electrical fans go out. Then I’m stuck. At least with a mechanical fan clutch, it will work. Even if broken, to some capacity.

How often is your fan actually engaged? I did the 7.3 mod on mine as well but it seems to be engaged majority of the time, even when the ECT and EOT are below 180*.
@grumpysdiy4 жыл бұрын
Yea my fan clutch is always engaged. There is a sacrifice to be made here, the noise for cooler temps. Since we tow a lot I’m okay with it.
