Another great video! Thank you. I just replaced the #3 injector on my 6.0 and this video was an amazing help. Thank you for including the torque specs and toque sequence. I also greatly appreciate your comments about the long crank on the first few starts. I would have panicked had you not told me to expect that. I don't undertake any diagnosis or repair on my truck until I see if you have a video on the subject.

Brian, Jeff again. Newbie at this. I can’t thank you enough for putting up this and other videos. Repair details on my truck are provided below in hopes they may help others. I love doing projects but my day job (a lot of times it is 7 days a week) just doesn’t allow me the time to figure all these things out on my own. From a long-term Navy man, thanks for all you do. It truly means a lot to me. I wish you and your Family the best. Thanks again. Sincerely, Jeff 2004 F350 107k miles, original owner. Turbo replaced at 25k with reman. I pulled the turbo at 75k due to vanes being seized. Cleaned, put on anti-seize, seems to be fine. Starting at 90k, long term P0401, 0404, 1315. Cleaned EGR, resolved, but returned. Replaced EGR valve. Codes returned in a few months, cleaned, intermittent success. Truck ran fine, no smoke, plenty of power. Recently returning from a trip, vehicle began to run rough at idle, not horrible. White/gray smoke at idle. Under acceleration, heavy gray to black smoke. No new codes. Lacked some power. Have never had a coolant leak. EGR well looks good when I pull the EGR. Checked down pipe, ok. Used my XRay scan tool no new codes. Bought AutoEnginuity scanner with Ford enhanced package. Scan with this tool indicated that at some time in the past p0281 had been set, but was not active. Ran the Power Balance test, indicated number 7 was not contributing equally. Ran the injector buzz test. Sounded good to me. I had my wife listen to the video of the buzz test and uncoached, she indicated that #7 sounded different. Bought reman injector form Bullet Proof Diesel. Installed using your video. Completed this morning and after about 10 seconds of cranking it fired up and is running very smooth. Power balance test looks great. No new codes.

Great video, following it step by step. Only thing I would add is that if you remove the inner fender it makes some of the valve cover nuts on the back really easy to get to. Also one other tip if your truck is too high and it is killing you to work on it, take front wheels off and lower is as low as your jack will go, really helps with access and your back.
@Noe2jzgte10 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a very good tip for somebody who is working on their own truck ...but i think he skipped it because he is making money on this job and it would be very time consuming for very little payoff for a tech who does 6.0 on a regular basis

Nice video. I think I wish I had watched before instead of after, I think pulling the ICP sensor would have been easier than the right side motor mount. My one point of constructive criticism is that after making such a big deal about how the fuel (oil) rails were torqued you blew right over the installation without addressing the torqueing. More on that: 1.) I've seen elsewhere (Amazon feedback for dummy plugs of all places) someone insist that T27 is the proper tool for those bolts, and I wonder if using the T30 is the reason my bolts are starting to look a little worse for the wear. I spend more time praying when I pull those rails than twisting. 2.) Where can I find those bolts or even better a replacement with a hex head.

Also i am wondering they sell oxygen sensor and diesel injector removal kits. I am good with oxygen sensor stuff but the diesel injector part of these kits not sure where you uses them as all you did is uses torx bits do you need the kits very often with all those fittings? When working on diesel engines. Great explanation wasn't aware on those engines that there was oil stand pipes just the glow plugs and diesel injector parts. I get now why the oil stand pipes are need to circulate oil back in these high pressure type engines. Also there is that new ICP sensor similar to what gasoline engine sensors are for with PCM. The ICP looks easy to remove like an oil pressure or coolant temp sensor. Anyway very through description.

Good video glow plugs are like the equivalent of spark plugs but they work on heating up cylinder rather then sparking of a spark plug. I am curious if you took gasoline engines and pressurize them like a diesel or higher if you can turn them into diesel engines? Basically using gasoline for diesel or converting your gas car engine into diesel engine. Just a curiousity.
@FordTechMakuloco5 жыл бұрын
The do have direct injection gasoline engines.
@natefidalgo76255 жыл бұрын
@@FordTechMakuloco ya but still it uses spark on powerstroke not just high compression like diesel. The glow plugs are just to help heat the chamber on cold starts there not really need when the chamber gets to operating temps just compression. So was kind of looking if you can compress gasoline enough to have it self ignite aka have no spark plugs. Its more a theory/design thing might not be practical was just throwing it out there. And sure gasoline engines have many types of injection systems from carbs to computerize injector nozzles ,..etc

Same thing just happened to my 6.0. Lost power while driving, blew heavy white smoke, got hydrolocked after stalling. Got towed. Found out last cylinder on pass side was hydrolocked. Went to take out last injector and hold down bolt was already loose. Copper ring was gone. First O ring on injector was broke. Now had to buy a 125 dollar camera on a stick to look at injector cup becuase you can't get your eye in there to see it.

Great video. Don't take a 6.0 break until you do glow plugs! Since you seem to be a 6.0L god can you help with a list of items to have in a "crash box"? My son is taking his far away for school and I want to make sure he has replacement parts for the likely problems (like on the crank angle sensor on the 7.3, etc.)
@FordTechMakuloco11 жыл бұрын
Well that depends on how capable he is. Fuel filters are good to have if they gel causing a stall or no start. Only other thing I can think of is an egr valve, other stuff like a ebp sensor short to vref causing a no crank for those concerns you just have to disconnect it and drive away. Injector or so would be nice just depends on how crazy you want to go many of the other problems are either performance related or need to be repaired at a shop. There are no real easy pop in parts like the 7.3l cmp sensor or idm. You might want to ask diesel tech ron too.
@MrRexquando11 жыл бұрын
FordTechMakuloco Fuel filters it is. Someone stole the EGR before we bought it. My son isn't very capable (great/smart kid just no mechanic) but he wanted a diesel truck and I didn't realize he wasn't "like me" so I end up doing most of the work. If its anything more than filters I will just fly myself up or find an honest diesel tech where he is going to college. I just got spooked when some friends at the airport who all drive 7.3s were talking about having extra crank censors in the glove box, etc. Thanks for the great videos and advice!

@FordTechMakuloco I pulled the #5 injector on my 03 6.0l yesterday. Contribution fault, and bad miss at idle. AE showed it overfueling at low RPM.The hold down bolt was extremely difficult to break loose. Is that normal? Injector was decently discolored above sealing washer to first shoulder on injector body. Nipple cup looks good. Is that also normal?
@williamr1344 жыл бұрын
@@jasonpacheco5744 Mine's back to normal, with quick starts, and smooth performance. It's only 20 something bolts, but it's slow going because it's so tight. Be patient, and give yourself time to do the work. You don't want to drop anything once the valve cover is open If you're sure you have an early 6.0l, do yourself a favor and buy the 6.0l specific T-40 bit for the injector hold down bolt. It's just long enough to clear the other components, and you can still get a ratchet/TQ wrench on it. It's the best $30 you'll spend. That hold down bolt is right next to the injector body, and anything else will be difficult to get in there. Otherwise, it's pretty straight forward. Remove hot side IC tube, remove GPCM/bracket, remove valve cover, remove oil rail(I didn't disconnect my HPO line), and R&R the injector. Make sure the old sealing washer comes out. Use your phone to look down the open injector bore for cracks. Blow out the bore, and hold down bolt hole so everything goes in clean. Pour some clean oil on the injector tops before you replace the HPO rail. Get a new o-ring for the oil filler neck. The old one will probably be toast when you unscrew the neck. That's the only other part I needed, aside from the injector itself. Motorcraft only for these parts. Once I was done, I went through a single 20 second cranking cycle, paused, and it started right off on the second cycle. Drove it about 15 miles, with some WOT pulls to purge the air, and all is well. I hope that helps.
