I’m sure it’s been brought up, but a couple of things: 1. The brakes are completely different. It’s not 4 pistons in the RT, it’s two. The scat pack brembo calipers are 4 piston. The brakes alone if you were to throw those on the RT would be 3/4K dollars. That’s almost half the price different already. 2. You mentioned tires. Knuckles and spindles are performance oriented on the scat and the other SRT models, to handle wider tires and the Brembo calipers and lines. The RT knuckles and spindles aren’t constructed as such, it’s the same as the V6 trim levels, so you’d have to invest in either some spacers or a big change in ofset to safely run larger meat. If you factor this cost in, new wheels (alone) with the proper offset to run performance tires at 275/40/20 in all four corners would run about 1k. We’re sitting at 4/5k added on if you were to upgrade the RT yourself. 3. Obviously the suspension. Tougher ride in the scat, you’d really need the adaptive suspension in the Hellcat trims to get the comfier ride on the street. However, the scat bilsteins are way better from a performance perspective, and handle the weight well. Whether it’s fixed or adaptive, they’re just better. Better valving, better tuning, I’d argue they’d even last longer. To put the fixed scat suspension on an RT (Bilstein B12 kit) would be 600 bucks or so. We’re sitting at a 4600/5600 dollar increase on the RT. 4. You talked about fuel, but just mentioned that the 6.4 will drink more. It will, absolutely true. However, you left out what it will drink. The scats are 93 octane ONLY, the 5.7 is recommended for 89, but you could even run 87 if you wanted. Your average cost in gas to run the scat per year would be around 2700 dollars or so, the RT would be around 2k. So 700 dollars more a year for the scat pack, multiply that by 6 years (assuming you keep the car), that’s a delta of $4300 over a 6 year period. So let’s be nice, and say that our delta of cost between the two is roughly $300 in favor of the RT as far as total cost. So let’s take that out, and $5300 added to the RT total cost. 5. The interior option list on the scat isn’t even close, it’s obviously much better equipped. If you were to try and add the same kind of seats in your own RT, that’s at least 1k bucks, and for the performance pages, you’ll need a tazer, so add another 300. That’s 1300 bucks, let’s add that on....and we’re up to $6300 over the RT price. 6. But here’s the crux of the matter: the power plant. Your delta in power of the scat over RT is over 110 hp at the crank. To get there in the RT, you’d have to boost or really go nuts on the NA portion of the 5.7. Sooooooo...that’s 10k. Now we’re at $16,300 over the price of the RT, and there was a 10k delta with them brand new. And we’re not done yet. 7. Drivetrain. LSD versus open diff. The RT has the open diff, the scats and up have awesome LSDs...AND beefier axles. With the extra power in the RT if you were to add it, you’d almost have to have new axles....and if you didn’t, probably should never take it to the track. If you were to throw those in the cost mix, that’s at minimum an extra 3k. Now we’re at a $19300 delta price increase on the RT. Yikes. So, buying the cars brand new, yes the scat pack is 10k more than the RT. However, the scat is easily the best value brand new. It’s actually 20k more car than the RT, available for 10k more upfront brand new. Not that anybody asked, but the Hellcat new is what, 20-30k more than the scat, but given the upgrades, is about 35k/40k more car than the scat packs. ETA: the actual best value out there today, in Mopar world, is a 15k mile or lower 2015/2016 hellcat. Those are running about 10k more than a scat with similar mileage used, but it’s 30k more car. Anyways, great video, your 6.4 to Hellcat cost conversion video was great, but you should really do a 5.7 conversion to 6.4 video. There’s, uh, certain KZbin channels out here that really don’t convey how much that cost actually runs, and you’d do a good job of explaining it.

Throttle response is crisper, the exhaust valves open and the transmission holds gears longer. I personally don’t see the value of a Scat as a daily driver. I know it has to be noticeably faster based on the power output, but again as a daily driver, spending an extra $10k seems crazy. I got my ‘17 RT for about $23k. I couldn't advise on the 1/4 mile on any of these. Hellcats aren't much faster than the 6.4 on a 0-60 due to trying to put that power down to the road. After 60 mph, the HC would walk the 6.4 (obviously). Someone did this line up a couple years ago. As fast as some of these cars are now, 0-60 should be dropped in favor of 0--100. lol

No, it isn't. I've had an SRT 392, now a Scat Pack Widebody, and in between a T/A Plus with all options sans sunroof. Hands down the T/A was the best, most enjoyable, greatest sounding (simple mid muffler delete and it was the meanest), most comfortable (swapped on Charger LEO steelies with chrome rings), most admired and of course most economical of all my Challengers. If it hadn't been totaled by a truck running a stop sign I'd be a happy camper. And I tweak, tune and modify my cars, to the point of using VCM editor to modify tables in the ECM/TCM and pulling the stock suspension out and replacing it with my own formula that includes custom Viking double adjustable shocks, to get a very comfortable but exciting ride on any paved road. And on my latest I put very nice Continental 315's. TA Plus was still the best. And in the future, once this scat pack accrues some value, I will take my customizations off, sell it, and find another T/A Plus with no sunroof. (my current widebody has a sunroof and the ceiling is thus too low, I have to lean the seat back more than I'd like and my hair still rubs the roof so I wear a baseball cap. The excitement in a muscle car is looks, sound, interior space and running up on limits til it feels dangerous. That's the thrill. With a ScatPack or Hellcat and hard suspension you have to go wildly illegal and endanger folks around you to get to that limit. So mostly you cannot. But in my T/A I could go thru my town a 1/4 of a mile, shifting manually, taking it up to rev limiter and decelerating til the cops come because they think you are racing (this happened once), and it is just the true joy of a muscle car. My widebody makes it all too tame and easy, so it isn't half as exciting even though it is faster and better planted.

My 2021 RT had more options than the Scat Pack. I am also not a fan of the "Bee". Test drove both. The SP was of course faster but it didn't quite have the rumble of my RT. From a price point of view, the RT is definitely more bang for your buck and it doesn't have those annoying bees in and on it. I believe if the bees weren't on every thing, I'd have chosen it. I will say that I do not regret my RT. After having Mustang GTs my whole life, I don't know if I could ever go back to a GT. My car stays on "sport" mode. Also, if it's not in sport mode, it'll go down to 4 cylinders when you are at a certain speed.

when going for insurance with the scat they only look at the trim which is R/T. Since they are both r/t's the insurance didnt go up for my friends scatty. A couple of people i know with scats pay around 100 bucks for full coverage. Also depends on age and history, but as far as trim level, both scat and RT had no difference.

It took me 6 months of searching to find my almost perfect one. Out of a list of about 10 things one of them was the destroyer gray color and with everything else I wanted I just couldn't find that perfect package so I ended up going for a black one which is pretty classic and will be a good color forever and I don't regret it. I thought if I keep searching I'm going to drive myself crazy and if I get the car now I'll start enjoying it immediately because who knows what tomorrow will bring. I've had it for about 10 months and I drive it all the time especially at night just for fun and I've never done that with any car I've ever owned. I'm talking driving four five nights a week just for fun. My advice to you is don't wait for perfection just get something as close as possible and pull the trigger. In my situation I figure in about 5 years the car is going to need a paint job and if I still really want to do it I'll paint it destroy your grand and satisfy that one thing that was missing but if I dig the black in 5 years I'll leave it.

The thing that sold me on the R/T was the 6-Speed Tremec trannie and the better gas economy. I prefer rowing the gears myself, and the only upgrade I've done to my 2023 R/T Plus is the swap out the mushy factory shifter to a Barton Industries shifter. I was missing shifts all the time with the factory mush box, but I've never missed a gear after I installed the Barton. I get compliments all the time, and that's probably due to the Sublime paint, but I do know that if you get the R/T Plus instead of the straight R/T, your package option list gets bigger and has more cool upgrades, like the bigger infotainment screen, line lock and the super track mode, which stiffens up the suspension, make the steering ultra-responsive and lets the exhaust system bark at a better, louder tone. If I had ordered this car, the only things I would have paid more for and wanted was the Nav option and Brembo brakes, but honestly, the base brakes work fine. Mine also has the Blacktop option, which makes it stand out in a crowd of Challengers with that Sublime and Blacktop really making this one eye candy.

For the Record: My 2015 R/T 5.7L A8 came with the Super Track Pack and the large screen display so those options can obviously be available to the 2020. I've watched your videos regarding tire testing on the 392 Scat Pack as a litmus of information gathering on how my upgrades to the 5.7L compare with your tests. Though this video is obviously showing partiality towards the Scat Pack and as you say the street is the great equalizer as far as 0 ~ 60 times and the 245 stock tires. Things can seriously change regarding the 5.7L Hemi with an unlocked ECM and a tune installed which makes the 5.7L quite the different animal than the 100% stock 5.7 off the dealer lot. With just external engine bolt on I can consistently get 4.4 second 0 ~ 60 times off of concrete surface so not every 5.7L R/T you pull next to on the street is going to get left behind by a Scat Pack 392. Depending on the modifications done to the 5.7, it may very well spank the stock Scat Pack!

you might very well be the VERY FIRST person to do any sort of comparison between the base drivetrain R/T and the upgraded drivetrain R/T; Thank you for that. I was surprised at how much you downplayed the 110hp (113hp in your example) difference between the advertised 5.7 vs 6.4 numbers. If it's within your ability, maybe you can expand upon this, and find a local who will meet you at the track to show a performance comparison(?); I hear the 5.7 R/T actually does quite well, but I have yet to see any real hard numbers for a stock or stockish example. keep in mind that it wasn't too long ago that a 375hp V8 was unheard of... Also, I have been suspecting that Dodge is slightly sandbagging the real 5.7/car horsepower numbers to bolster sales for the larger displacement cars.
@19coyote5oh94 жыл бұрын
The 5.7's 372 HP rating is really dated for 2020. Ford's 5.0 puts out almost 100 HP more and is almost a liter smaller in displacement. Hell even the 5.0 in the bullet is rated at 480 HP, 5 less than a 6.4 Mopar. If your hellbent on a Mopar the 6.4 is a no brainer.

@Bubba Gumpz_Scrimpz The Demon was a limited one year production vehicle built on a chassis that's more than 10 years old using a large displacement push rod engine...... 372 HP from a 5.7 V8 is almost laughable in 2020, never mind in a 4000+ lbs car. Yeah it's time to catch up.

I’m in the process of buying a 22 T/A ( also 6 speed ) now with basically the same options. It’s an everyday driver, something I can take my three kids in and something I can teach the wife how to drive stick in. It’s the perfect muscle car for 95% of your needs. To me it would come down to the resale value. It is possible that the scat Pack will recoup a good chunk of that 10K in price difference if you ever decide to sell. The Scat Pack has one of the best sounding mufflers and 100+ HP is a significant difference. So in a nutshell yes I think it is well worth actually a bargain
@flipfloplogic4 жыл бұрын
EVERYONE is always talking about the hellcat. Its nice to see a scat pack get some shine. I owned a RT which was wrecked (not my fault). It was traded in on a scat pack once repaired. The difference I noticed immediately is the scat pack is far more nimble. The RT felt like it was underpowered. Challengers are very heavy. The scat pack is easier to maneuver with more horsepower moving the weight. I'd be afraid of losing control in a hellcat. Scat packs have more than enough power for most people and its possible to get all of it without putting yourself in a ditch.

Lots of shade thrown at the 5.7 but let's give it up to Dodge for still offering two V8 options while the GM and Ford offer one V8. The Eagle 5.7 ('09+) has shown time after time on the Dyno that it's only about 20hp less than the 6.1 Hemi regardless of what the brochure says. And just because the 6.4 is an absolute animal doesn't mean that every driver can tame that beast. On street tires, I've seen 392 chargers and challengers run consistent 12.8/12.9 1/4mi passes with my own two eyes, which isn't that impressive.

I noticed in your video that the 2020 5.7L R/T intake did not have the silencer on the intake. Was 2020 the first year they removed it? I have a 2018 5.7L Challenger with the silencer which forced me to mount the oil catch can on the fender. Up until now, all 5.7 Challengers have had the silencers and the 5.7 Chargers never had it. I've never found a good explanation for why that is (the intakes are interchangeable between the two cars). Either way I agree with your review...I also had a 2015 Scat Pack and, while tons of fun, I found I had very little opportunity to take advantage of the extra power. For mileage, I was getting about 15.5 on the 6.4 while my 5.7 gets about 17.5 taking the same routes to work every day (mostly city). Regarding the exhaust, I have to say my 5.7 sounds meaner than my Scat Pack did (factory exhaust on both). Both have pros/cons, but I don't really miss the Scat Pack as much as I thought. Sadly for 2020, the Destroyer Gray color is gone. That's what I have on my 2018, and it's an awesome color.

I had my scat pack built with rear stripe delete, seat logo delete, and the tremec 6 speed. 40k . add taser software and a pedal commander, it's a blast every time I drive it.

Hell yea its worth it a guy tried to race me in his 5.7 I blew his doors off months later he saw me at the gas station and told me he traded in his 5.7 next day after he raced my 392 🤣
@RacerX94 жыл бұрын
The 6.4 definitely has more punch.. just depends on what you can afford or how much power you feel like is appropriate for you 👍

Then u pull up to a hellcat and he'll blow ur doors off lol. Dont knock on 5.7s

Sure the 6.4 might have more power but at the end of the day the 6.4 will lose to a hellcat a redeye and a demon so theirs not much bragging to go around.

I wish I was close by, I'd let you take my stock 5.7 R/T plus to run in place of the brandnew R/T. That way you could have run the crap out of mine that's completely broken in lol. I thought that when you had a brand new hemi it took a certain amount of miles to run in before your allowed full horsepower capability. But I'm not 100 percent sure lol, but I've heard that in the past, but I could be wrong, I definitely wouldn't be the first time lmai!! I love your vids and you have a new subscriber here!!

After owning a 392 for 2 years I can say that the hellcat would have probably been a. Better choice to compensate the heavy ass 4 door car I like to race in.. the hellcat would be more than enough to beat 90% of the cars on the road where as my scatpack get dragged by a stock automatic mustang with an air filter lol
@RacerX94 жыл бұрын
Yes there are a significant numbers of cars out there that can run with the scat but it is a ton of fun to drive.. I still love my Hellcat Charger 👍

That's why I always go with more power, even if I don't use it 80% of the time. For me, nothing worse than losing a street race. And someone will always challenge you..

WAIT!! Sir, you CAN change the trans, steering, etc on the Performance Pages display of the R/T. I have the 2019 Challenger R/T with the full tech package and Plus trim level and I have a full onboard/onscreen dyno and fully controllable steering and trans. You program your track or sport settings in the display under performance pages. So when you hit the sport button, it will handle how you programmed it. You keep saying all the R/T has is a sport button and no adjustable driving dynamics, that’s not true. Maybe the model you drove was stripped back, idk. I love the versatility and customization of mine. It also has active exhaust which opens up in sport. It rips! I do 4.9 0-60 on my 5.7, totally respectable. It also has suede seating, minus the SRT/Bee emblems. The display is equally as big as that scat pack as well.

Yeah,my 5.7 best was 5.0sec 0-60

I had a 2017 R/T with just the sport mode. I traded it for a 2019 Black Top R/T that has the performance pages like the scat pack. So it was an additional option for a couple hundred bucks.

A pedal commander will change all of that! The torque is strong with the 5.7....Love my R/T. 285 tires pedal commander more than enough to eat up the road

My 1st Challenger was a 2017 SXT Plus. I got bored with the V6 after a year or so and decided to trade for an R/T or Scat Pack but wanted to find a car the same year and color. I wanted to stay with a 2017 and took about 6 months to find a loaded Scat Pack in Pitch Black with low miles. I did drive the 5.7 while searching but once I drove the 6.4 I was sold. My SXT was about a 33K sticker and paid about 8K trade difference for a 2017 Scat with a 48K sticker. The Scat is the best value IMO. Good comparison.

My daily driver is a 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack with Shaker and the Dynamics Package. I love it! I once got a 2019 R/T as a loaner while I was having some service done and I was somewhat disappointed by the performance of the smaller V8. I agree with RacerX: both cars are fun to drive, but the Scat Pack really delivers a punch to the gut when you stomp on the gas. I also think that you should go with what you can afford. Would I purchase the Hellcat if I could afford it? Hard to say. Possibly, but I still think I would go with the Scat Pack simply because it's a more sensible daily driver than the Hellcat.

I feel like realistically the 5.7 rt is good enough for me, great Exhaust, good on insurance etc, getting for a daily driver

I daily a 2018 challenger rt. I get about 17 mpg city driving near me (pretty rural but definitely some red lights) Insurance is only $60 more than my old beater, and it's fun as hell launching out if redlights haha

Taranisaurus FPV that’s what I’m saying is not that bad, now a 6.4 scat pack with premium gas and expensive insurance is a different story lol

I jumped from the V6 to my 392... I owned the V6 for about a month after buying the 392 Shaker while trying to sell it. The difference is huge. Outside of a similar look, nothing feels the same.
@DP-hn6rl5 жыл бұрын
392Desi agreed. Each step you take up the hierarchy almost feels like a completely different car. I’ve owned a 5.7, 6.4, and 6.2 and they’re all great but all very different. Best bang for the buck is a Scat with the power dollar deals going on for the 2019s. Scats for $30-32k. Just put a pedal commander on the scat and hang on!
