In this video the 6.0 bros talk about which year 6.7 powerstroke is the best. with 3 generations down and a 4th hwn coming there is a lot to look at with the 6.7 powerstroke engine. from twin scroll compressor wheels in the early years to upgrade fuel systems. these common rail diesel engines are very complex. Ford has made small but vital improvements to the engine to make a very reliable truck. in short all year 6.7 powerstrokes are good engines, but in this video we are going to try and find the best year 6.7 powerstroke to buy! I hope this video helps you decide which year 6.7 powerstroke you should buy, and review some of the differences between the years of 6.7 powerstroke. We are not however only talking about what we think is the best year 6.7 powerstroke! We are also talking about some of the more common 6.7 powerstroke problems! We want to help you decide what the best 6.7 powerstroke year to buy is by talking about any of the 6.7 powerstroke issues that you may encounter. The 6.7 Powerstroke problems are not actually that bad. We reviece some of the bigger issues with the 6.7 Powerstroke though. It is a very different animal than the 6.0 Powerstroke we are use to having on this channel!

2011’s had a bottom end issue specifically spun crank bearings. My old company had an 11 bone stock @180,000 it shutoff pulling out of a gas station found out it lost the bottom end bearings. This information makes feel a little better about my 2015, 6.7L F-250, presently at 36,500 miles having had two emission codes pop up in the last 2 years. factory limited warranty and extended warranty covered them. Extended warranty is expiring in 8 months. Here lately my anxiety level has started to increase because I got on the internet and visited the forums and found many Ford diesel owners having issues. I am 75 and when I bought this truck new I figured it would be the last truck for me. I'm still hoping for that. I really love the truck a King Ranch version and don't want to trade it in on a Gasser.

I also bought the extended service contract and they change my oil every 7500 to 8500 miles and change the diesel filters every other service. So the 2011 model year that had valve issues would have almost definitely happened by your mileage. I believe most of the 2011s rlthat had the issue were built on the earlier side of 2010. If your turbo does go out it has long outlived the normal life of any vgt turbo. You could replace it when the time comes and you'll have the upgraded bearings or you could upgrade to the 2015 style but that is a greater expense. You clearly take good care of that truck because at that mileage normally people have had a few issues. Has it needed anything outside the normal?

I went from a 2011 Chevy 2500 with the Duramax to a 2019 Tundra (because we bought a smaller camper and didn’t need an HD). Now we want a bigger camper so I just traded the Tundra for a 2015 F-350 King Ranch with the Power Stroke. It’s definitely quieter than my old Duramax and feels a little more powerful. So far I think the Duramax was a little better on the MPG though, but I haven’t put enough miles on the Ford to say for sure yet.

@s.cservices2850 both trucks are going to be very similar. I have actually towed with both trucks a duramax and a powerstroke. They will both perform incredibly similar. If you go powerstroke I would get a 2015 or newer they do perform better than the 11-14 ones with a bit better reliability. Overall I do prefer the bit higher hp and torque from the powerstroke but honestly overall they are very very similar, and you would be happy with both.

how has the truck been? sorry for being so late to respond. the biggest thing is really keeping on top of oil changes and fuel filter changes. I would keep an eye on your temps (exhaust, oil, coolant, trans) I would monitor boost, exhaust back pressure, and fuel psi and have an idea of where they sit so if something is off it will help you be able to tell maybe if you have a boost leak or if your fuel psi is lower than normal maybe a sign of an issue

Take it on the highway I would do a pull or 2 with it just give it some good throttle. With a scan tool check fuel psi. Oil leaks can be expensive or a sign of the ccv filter needing replaced. Oil leaks around lower and upper oil pan, valve covers as well.

However, in my opinion of the best truck out the door for reliability, 2017-2019 L5P duramax w/6 speed Allison (not the 2020+ 10 speed). If I had it my way, it would be a 6.7 in a 2017+ ford super duty with the 6r140 ford transmission. But that’s me.

I intend to upgrade trucks this year. I’ve had Super Duty trucks for 14 years. I’d like to get a lariat crew long bed 6.7 truck, but I’m really worried about fuel system problems and turbo issues. I’m also concerned about the complexity of the design overall. The complex cooling systems worries me as a failure point down the road. As much as I’d like stick with a Super Duty, for me I think that I’ll end up with a 6.7 Cummins powered Ram.

do not go with a cummins lol. Both are excellent options. there are not really issues with the cooling system. Now the fuel system I can understand however the powerstroke does not have the same failure rate as the duramax does because they have a factory lift pump. There are also kits to help minimize any potential issues. at the end of the day both trucks are great.

The 6.0 definitely had its issues. I do really like them. I'll never get rid of my problem child truck the 6.0 although in the scheme of things it's been good to me but not everyone has had that experience. The 6.4 international couldn't have messed up more if they tried lol. I think the 6.7 cummins is an excellent overall engine. I just think sometimes people put it in the same class as their larger engines and people sometimes ignore other things with the trucks as a whole. I will say I like that they got away from the cp4 pump quickly and so did gm. Ford for a couple different reasons is hanging on but at least the after market has finally fixed that. I'm off topic now haha, but I don't feel the current dodge truck with a cummins is as good a truck as the Chevy and ford's. Just to be clear though all 3 truck brands are absolute monsters. They all will tow anything you want with good ride quality nice interior. Trucks today have all gotten insanely good

Looking to buy a 6.7 pretty soon and I’m stuck between a 13 with 109,000 and a 15 with 130,000. My buddy has a dealership and those are the two 6.7 he has. What would be the benefits of going with the 15?
@six0bros
@six0bros 3 жыл бұрын
So the main upgrades for 15s were better injectors, higher flowing cp4( no change in reliability) cylinder head redesign, glow plugs I believe we're upgraded for the 13 model year, probably the biggest upgrade from 13 was the gt37 turbo is far more reliable on the 15
@six0bros
@six0bros 3 жыл бұрын
That said the cp4 and the turbo can both be retro fit onto the older engine so depends on if you want or need it. Cp4 is direct bolt up turbo is a little more involved

What would you consider high mileage for a 15? I'm looking at one with 230,000 and they're asking 28,000 I'm definitely not trying to pay that much for a truck with that many miles even tho I do know diesels last longer still it scares me spending that much on a high mileage truck

while it does happen in these newer trucks it is the fords are not quite as prone to it. since they have a factory lift pump to supply fuel to the cp4. some say the newer pump in the 15s and newer are more reliable, however there is nothing to actually prove that to be true. they simply flow a little more fuel.

Hey I'm sorry I'm so late to respond. I have seen these trucks go for that around that mileage still in good shape. The hard part is you still have a power train that's been through all those miles. These are good trucks and I have seen a lot of them with at least 100k miles more, but at the same time stuff does happen at lower mileage. I would recommend trying to find something lower or at least pricing out what replacement parts can go for.

GM has not used the CP4 high pressure fuel pump since 2016 Duramax LML. 2017 and newer L5P's use a Denso Pump. There are class action law suits for 2011 to 2016 Duramax with the CP4, 2011 to current 6.7 Ford Powerstroke,'s, and 2019-2020 6.7 Cummins with the CP4. (RAM has gone back to the CP3) The CP4's have a mechanical design flaw and they will fail (not if but when) and spread metal throughout the fuel system. S&S Fueled has an excellent video (on KZbin) on this flaw that will explain in detail. This alone should be deal killer. Too bad that Ford has no problem letting owners be the beta testers. 6.0 failures, 6.4 total garbage, and 2011 -2012, 6.7 engine failures, bad turbo bearings, etc. This along with the continued use of the CP4. Look at the latest recalls on 2021 version of this truck, 10 speed transmission bearing failures, and rear axle tubes collapsing. What's next? No Way, not my money.

Well done gm for the switch. That said I still loved my 6.7 and I I that there needs to be disaster prevention kits but they do reduce issues when one fails. That said I'm sure ford will change when they switch to a different engine block with a redesign at some point. Also any new engine is pretty much beta testing. 9ver the 6.7 is a pretty darn solid truck. Just like I feel the lol and l5p are also solid trucks. I'm not hating on either one and I agree the cp4 pump is not great and I wish the cp4 pump would be fixed in design so there was an option to replace the bad ones.
