Hi Gemma, Iove your videos! Thanks a lot for this extensive coverage (including previously Metro Siege)! :) A few clarifications: Actually Alarcity is not abandoned, however given our focus on Metro Siege and Dread it's currently lower priority wise. An interesting note here is that the 'Scorpion Engine' (featured in a previous video of yours with 'Scorpion Boy' from BitBeamCannon), was actually created in the first place for Alarcity. The idea to make the engine a general purpose Amiga game creator came later. The footage showcased in this video is from a newer version made with Scorpion and has signifficant differences compared to the old 'Survival demo'. In regards to Worthy, unfortunately there's no physical version currently available (as our old publisher is closed and gone). Only digital (from our site). Perhaps we'll make a new physical release with a different publisher at some point if there's enough demand. ;)
@TheGebs242 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Thanks for the clarity. I tried super hard to research the status of the project. I’m glad we may get to see more in the future. Speaking of Dread. I’m doing an episode about that next week. Is there a physical release planned for Dread? Thanks for the great work
@johntsakiris37172 жыл бұрын
@@TheGebs24 Thanks! :D Well, in regards to Alarcity, it's not your fault. It's left in a kind of unclear state - truth be told. In regards to Dread, yes, a physical release is indeed planned, however the project is very 'early days' currently. But progress is constant and there's good work being done. Btw, if you have any further questions about the project try the Pixelglass mail ;)

What I like is that these new games for old hardware take gameplay cues from modern games; much better controls and feel for timing, excellent modern pixel art and love/respect for old hardware. It’s crazy to see this 35 years later.

Was certainly more interesting than the movie. Was oddly groundbreaking too and unlike much else out at the time. I can't say if it was a fun game but it was certainly fascinating. Including Ocean's decision to even attach one of their film licenses to quite an experimental project rather than their usual 2D side view platforming with mini-games they usually did with their licenses (and the huge sales of the first RoboCop game)

One amiga game that's incredibly unique and awesome that's noones heard about is "magnetron" what surprising it's a public Domain game Amazing gameplay that's unique not to mention storyline and into music There are some videos on KZbin but it's frustrating because people don't know how to play the game Basically you are an asteroid displacement device that's used as desperate last minute resort in alien invasion of Mars You are a magnetic sphere that can direct it's electronic magnetic pulse to control asteroids and ramming them into aliens with groovy rebound physics. Is there a different asteroids with different properties and physics ( some explosive ) The player can use himself as a ramming weapon as well (if the player has enough health). If you use the electronic magnetic pulse in a stationary position, it acts as a forcefield that rebounds projectsls into enemys There is no game that's like this. It's truly one of a kind and a must play even today

Never liked games like The Shadows of Sergoth or the almighty Eye of the Beholder but when I tried Hired Guns back in the old days I started liking those games. Legend of Grimrock is a recent one that I played and enjoyed a lot.
@carn95072 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed Shadows of Sergoth more than I thought I would (both it's Amstrad CPC original and it's Amiga upgrade) but yeah I wasn't a huge fan of those kinds of games back in the Amiga era... but yes, hell yes, Hired Guns was an exception and super awesome. The atmosphere in that game... and we used to play it in 4 players in teams of 2 and had my A1200 linked to both a TV and monitor at same time then covered up the opposing side's part of each screen and it was the closest thing we had to online deathmatches at the time. Also it was cool that you could actually also create characters in Deluxe Paint and use them in Hired Guns. Though my friend cheated by using a blank image and said he was the Predator in cloaking... :P

I wonder if Jay Miner was still with us how he would react to his baby still being used today to develop new software? The Amiga 1000 in 1984 was truly a forward think design and set the template that modern systems still use today, remarkable really considering its heart the Motorola 68000 is a chip designed in the mid 1970's and in to market in 1979, and unbelievably still used today. Years ahead of the curve but years behind the curve within a decade, shame on you Commodore for your mis-management of a system that deserved better. Fond memories of my Amiga from 1988 to 1992, gaming powerhouse that a lot of todays top game developers would have learnt their trade upon.

The c64 cannot do these graphics and graphics aren't everything interesting on games. I know the Amiga can do games like Ruff N Tumble and Lionheart but those where made by wizards. As long as the gameplay is ok, graphics can be simple. Worthy is an example, looks simple but looks fun.
