The trick to get an AR15 to shoot 6mm arc good is to slow down the Bolt. If you're getting brass marks on your receiver like most people do the buffer is too light. After I built my gun when I was tuning it I put a flat wire spring and a H3 buffer, and the groups shrunk by more than 1/2 an inch. I still ended up putting an adjustable gas block on it to tune that down a little bit as well. Each thing seemed to increase accuracy.
@williebulletman52173 жыл бұрын
Good to know that thanks for sharing I really think if more people would go over to flat wire buffer spring it could help more people with some of there ejection problems
@poisonouslead85 Жыл бұрын
Don't forget shimming the barrel extension and supporting the bolt carrier tail. Shimming the extension only takes a few dollars worth of materials and swapping your buffer tube to one that supports the carrier tail can both net you some free accuracy.

Love your channel! I will say I have 3 6 ARCs all in the AR-15 platform and I have been pleased with them. The 1st I built for my daughter. It's just an AB 18" barrel with an ALG ACT trigger and a JP lighter spring. It shoots 1 ragged hole @ 100 yards with Hornady 108 ELDM Match ammo. I never took it out past 100. Next after that experience I built myself one with a 20" +1" gas Proof Research barrel. It also shoots 1 ragged hole & likes both Hornady 108 Match and 105 Black. Very sooty, clean often. My final 6 ARC thus far is an SBR, 11.5" MOS-TEK 3R barrel, that also likes Hornady Black and shoots under an MOA @ 100 yards. I have found it challenging to reload for, getting pressure signs before matching factory velocities with CFE 223. When I get more time I will revisit but currently am preoccupied with a 37XC build. Great videos!

Thank you for the review. You made me feel better about my own results with 6 ARC. I really love the cartridge and built both a bolt gun and a gas gun. The bolt gun is a Zermatt TL3 action with a Proof Research 22” Carbon Fiber barrel. I am using the MDT magazines and this gun runs flawlessly. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the gas gun. The gas gun is an Aero Precision M4E1 upper with a Sharps BCG and a Wilson Combat Tactical Hunter 1-7.5 twist Stainless fluted barrel. The real disappointment with this gun are feed issues and basic accuracy. I have two different brands of mags, 20 round Duramags and 25 round ASC mags. The Duramags originally wouldn’t fully chamber the first round of a full 20 round mag, but they have gotten better with use. The ASC mags on the other hand are a completely different story. They will feed the 1st round in the mag, but consistently jam on the 2nd round. After stripping the 2nd round out of the mag, they will properly feed round 3 to about round 11 in the mag, but after that the ASC mags will fail to feed on just about every other round. Any suggestions for good mags for this gun? I am only shooting factory ammo - Hornady Match 108gr and Hornady Blk 105gr. My groups with the Hornady Blk are better than with Hornady Match, which is consistent with everyone else’s results, [but] the Hornady Blk is the ammo with the worst issues in the gas gun. I really love this round, especially in my bolt gun, but until I can find a good mag for the gas gun, I will continue to be disappointed. Again, thank you for your review.

It's getting there slowly in the long range civilian market. However, unless they are a long-range junky, most will not see a reason to go to a 6mm when 5.56 can meet their needs with a proven track record at a fraction of the cost. Most of them don't even shoot past 200-300 yards anyway with an AR15. If they want to shoot a bit farther, they will likely go to the AR10 in 6.5 CM or 308win. All of those calibers and reloading components are easier to find. It is a great round though!

Great vid! I'm still shooting the Poverty Pony build with Berger 105s and Leverevoloution/W748. I put a Valdada 16x fixed on a couple weeks ago and did my first LR match(600yd) yesterday. Didn't win but I learned a LOT! Last weekend with the new glass I was able to put groups on the 1k plate. Next month is 1kyds and I'm betting I'll be the only one running an AR-15. For the AR-15, I'm stuck @2650 fps or I get pierced primers (need hard primers...). I'm good at rainbowing them in. Yesterday after the match, I went to the 500yd berm and started down the swingers. I got hits on every one except the 2". the 4" was tough (about 60% hits), the 6" was pretty much all day easy. These were just plinking fire forming rounds too. My best 5 shot groups have been ~0.8". I also have been using Starline brass exclusively, and just converted another 500 to ARC. Goodbye 223! My next "thing to do" is try one of those PRS bush matches where you hike 20 miles with a spotter and such over a couple days.

When it comes to AR's, what I have found is that especially the barrel counts for sub MOA shots. Barrels like Faxon, Aero, etc. are not a consistently accurate. Yes, you do get some folks with more accurate barrels, but by far, the barrels that are most accurate are the higher class manufacturers.

Kenny can you say more about “outperforms” the 6br? 6br has quite a bit more case capacity right? Or is that extra capacity just wasted because you hit pressure before you fill the case? I was considering a BR build, but like the grendel and would think an ARC might be the one to check both boxes. Although I’ve soured on the idea of having gas gun and bolt in same calibers because it makes separation of brass and such a hassle.

Ray from the X-Ring and I have ran 6 ARCs in 3 day competition and only expirence slight bolt drag after 300 rounds. Quick wipe and oil, ready to rock. You can switch to lighter bullets like the 90gr Berger and use powders like Varget or H322 for a cleaner shot

@@EagleEyeShooting Thanks. What gas length do you think for an 18-20 inch barrel. Something that meets the 6mm legal minimum for deer that will still reach out farther on varmints. Sort of a .243 in a smaller package. I'm think ing about a Ruger or Mossberg bolt-action in a chassis stock; but an AR upper might cost less while being more versatile. BTW, particular thanks for the info about it being jump sensitive.

Edit: I see you addressed it in the other comments. You trim to 1.500”. At 5:05 is says 1.950” trim length. What did you really mean for trim length? Maximum SAAMI Case length is 1.490" on 6mm ARC. Creedmoor isn’t even 1.950”. Maximum cartridge on 6.5 CM is 1.920”. I thought you might have inadvertently listed Creedmoor, but that didn’t fit either.

dont want to be a downer, your case trim notation is off. max length is 1.490" trim 1.475. im asuming typo...

Well... thanks for the book notation, though your correct on the length listed, grab your self a bore cam. They are cheap, recommend teslong. You'll be surprised to see listed trim length is usually 15-20 thousandths shorter than your chamber. Best performance is met to match your chamber

@@EagleEyeShooting at 5:05 into the vid, it says trim length for 6 arc is 1.950. im not an expert, (in fact, im so new to reloading that i dont even know what i dont know) i dont have a clue about ideal trim length for my chamber, let alone yours. but the difference between 1.950" and 1.490" is considerable.....(6mm creedmoor has a trim length of 1.91")

Mine shoots factory ammunition 1/2moa with a Faxon arms gunner barrel on my AR-15, precision hunter groups better than I can shoot the gun, probably in the .3's

Just wondering, is there any company out there that makes a 6 ARC AR-15 barrel that's chrome-lined? Obviously the goal isn't super tight groupings, but just a barrel that you can run pretty hard for a cartridge that can reach out much further than 5.56 can. Basically a combat-grade 6 ARC barrel, if you will. I would really be interested in something like that. I've done some digging and haven't found anything yet, but maybe you've got some intel I don't. Thanks.
@EagleEyeShooting3 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of. Just my opinion on this. This cartridge is capable of achieving over 5K rounds. My personal Savage is over this number and still shoots sub 1/2 inch. It can sustain high rates of fire. Doesn’t heat up much. So a typical chromoly barrel or SS will be good. I do make AR barrels and complete uppers if you check out my site DPGunworks.com

I don't fully understand the bullet jump thing, but is shorter better for the 6mm ARC in an AR platform? Is it better if it doesn't touch the lands? I have the 20" Faxon fluted barrel and also getting better results with the 105s, but I read that other people have better luck with the 108s. Anything I can do, should I reach out to Faxon? Will a different magazine help? thanks!
@EagleEyeShooting3 жыл бұрын
Reloading.. certain bullet jump lengths can be used to fine tune the cartridge and tighten accuracy. The term used is finding the node. If your barrel does not shoot .75" with factory 105gr black. Get your money back and purchase a Proof 20". From expirence those shoot 1/2" or close to

How did you measure that .005 erosion on your barrel? I measure barrel erosion as how much farther from new I must seat the bullet to touch the lands. Typically it's. 020 per thousand rounds with high BC bullets.
