I really liked the look of the Blackmagic pocket cinema camera, I would love to get it, but I am happy with my T3i at the moment as it suits my work more, as I am a photographer and videographer. Nearly 10 years later but today i'm finally making my own over the schoulder rig for a go pro 9. Always nice to get a project form the mental shelf to a real one.

Nine years later i stumble across this clip.... I had pretty much the same idea, only with a spring where you mounted the camerapipe into the rest of the rig. I plan to livestream my longer walks and sometimes me and the dog end up in very tricky terrain and i rather not snag the camera mount. But i will definetly look at a similar rig. Thanks for the inspiration.

That new Black Magic Camera is fantastic news. This bring serious film making within reach of almost anyone's budget. I really hope the big manufacturers take heed and lower the price of their gear or finally adapt the firmware to give us the full range of the camera's capabilities without having to hack it like my GH2. Can't wait to get a my hands on the Pocket Rocket :)

I planned to use PVC cement, but the rig was already very solid. I spray-painted the whole thing black, and after baking in the sun over several days of walking outside, some of the PVC and paint started to fuse together. Now most of the joints-as seen at 3:20-are impossible to disconnect.

I've only seen three 3D films now: Avatar, The Hobbit, and Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park was the best 3D experience, even though it was post-converted.

Russell was worried the whole time about someone stealing my camera. I wasn't. Most people couldn't even tell what the rig was made of, so I imagine it would be hard to know where they'd need to pull to break it apart.

If you use lots of light (or shoot in sunlight), and figure out a way to mount the iPad to a tripod, I'm sure you can capture some professional-looking video with that camera!

Is any part of the backpack semi-rigid? (Maybe the part against your back?) I originally thought about rigging it to the inside, and having the arm stick out the big pocket (with the zippers all the way to one side).

Clever solution. Could work also with small compact cameras to get a bit narrower field of view.

I was thinking of fixing it onto a backpack with the extremely cushy padding on the back. The thing about that is it has a flap opening instead of a zipper opening.

Sew on velcro straps! Might be easier to attach and remove the pvc frame. Keep up the great ideas.

BMC POCKET CAMERA!!! 13 stops of dynamic range from RAW footage at 1080p for 1k :D Too bad the sensor is tiny. Oh and the DSLR version of MOVI is only 7.5K (5lbs max)

Doing some research and just finding this years later. I would love to do something like your back pack rig but be closer to the subject, with their head center framed and ideally still cut out any piece of the rig in the shot. It's for a commercial pitch for a hat, so neck up is all we really need to see of the subject. Any ideas on how to modify the rig here to help with mine? maybe a waistband?

No Raw in in the Pocket CInema. ProRes 4:2:2 with 13 Stops of dynamic range (the NAB-consultant says).

when flying to atx, did you check the rig in your luggage or did you carry it on? i want to make one for my trip tp seattle, but will only be taking a backpack. dont really want to cause an evacuation. cant find much info about traveling with pvc pipe.

well you might read rcgroups.com , and head on on multirotor forum many people there tweaking to build a Brushless gimbal for Gopro/Dslr. but yeah, freeflysystem build a great quality product and i love their product

well, he is using a quarter-inch screw so it can be any camera with a tripod mount (just the gopro has a fisheye lense that is better for this kind of work)

I just saw Jurassic Park in IMAX 3D yesterday, and 3D still sucks. Of my other experiences several years ago I will say 3D has come a long way, especially post conversion. Unfortunately it is not and probably never will be perfect and is ultimately unnecessary. 3D strobes during tracking shots and pans. Lens flares sit in their own planes and are distracting. And the act of the human eye jumping from several points for 2 hours still causes strain, leading to a more grueling viewing experience.

Converting 2d to 3d what an incredible waste of time and resources !!!!!!! imagine if 700 people spent nine months contributing to the world instead.
