I'm 62 and I can tell you there is some great advice here. I have twanged my knee several times in the last few months just walking about the house! Shocking how parts of your body deteriorate once you get past 60. For Farmer's walk I don't turn, I just set down the weights (in my case Jerry cans full of water or sand) turn around carefully and pick them up again. It's worked well so far!

I am 50 and have to say that it is never too late to get into shape. I didn't start strength training until I was 44. I spent my 20's and 30's drinking beer and not getting adequate sleep. If your body is rested then you will feel energized to work out once you get into the routine of it. I met a man that was 80 and he told me that strength training helped to keep his arthritis from flaring up. Just keep putting in the effort and the results will come!

Literally a minute before you mentioned goblet squats I did a set of 12 with a kettlebell! First time in about 20 years and boy did it feel grrrrrrrreat! 👍 I'm 62 and was nicely surprised that I can still squat right down to the floor. It's even easier with weight as it counterbalances nicely and makes it easier to stay upright than it does with no weight at all. I will be doing these daily now to get my knackered old lungs and legs working again, great video cheers!

I am 63 yrs old & have worked out most of my life....however have been off more than on lately due to the exact reasons you've stated in your video. Still working out, or trying to work out like I did in my 20s. I've been out of the gym the last 6mos. due to the frustration of a chronic back injury that surfaces every time I get going on a good routine in the gym. My younger brother just dropped over dead of a heart attack at 57 & this is now my inspiration to get going on something I can stay with, without injury. Starting ...again from square 1 using your concepts. Also interested in learning good diet habits which is a major weakness at this time. Thank you for your videos & advice, they will help this old guy.

Amazing video - VERY true. I could attest to all that was said here because: I used to train a lot in my 20s up to my 30s but was more of a "bro" trainee (mostly trained the upper body and did no legs). I then got married and stopped for over 20 years and let myself go. Now in my 50s, I put on weight, I had hip pains, knee pains, lower back pains etc... and lost a lot of mobility, flexibility and of course strength. I was limping in my 50s when walking. What the hell? When an x-ray showed that my left hip is showing the start of arthritis due to the pain, alarm bells went off in my head. I said to myself enough is enough... I am far too young to be like this. I could not bend my knees more than 5 inches or so under my own body weight without pain. I slowly started goblet squats but only with my own body weight. At first, I saw no results other than pain. Lucky for me, I am mentally tough so I stuck to it and a few months later, gradually, I was able to squat lower and lower till one day, I managed to squat comfortably all the way down past parallel PAIN-FREE!! Now I can goblet squat 4X10 sets with an 80-lb dumbbell. This allowed me to graduate to back squats. Presently, I can only back squat 75lbs at 4X10 sets but my technique is good (I take videos of myself to check). I am sticking to this because evidence has shown me that progress is imminent. I can also deadlift which is something I could not do. By the way, I also perform loaded carries and it is just a phenomenal exercise. What I found works for me now is twice a week, I do my pulls... deadlifts, rows, abs (wheel and planks), biceps ending with loaded carries. Alternating for two other days of the week are my pushes... squats, chest press, shoulder press and triceps and again ending with loaded carries. This makes me train 4 times a week and at the end of all my workouts I do my stretches. For me, my body recovers well this way. Anyhow, I said all this because now due to people like you @Live Anabolic, I feel so much better and the quality of my life has really improved in ways I can't even explain. I feel amazing. You really help people that choose to listen to your advice. Keep doing what you do and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise! You have my full respect.

I do full body workout every other day with just a pair of dumbbells : 2 warming up set's then one working set 12-15 reps ( keep one rep shy of failure) to avoid DOM's and injury. Prioritizing compound exercises: Squat / chest press / RDL / seated Arnold press / chest supported row. Then incorporating some isolation movement's like : biceps curls / triceps extensions / reverse fly / Lateral raises / shrug / calves raises / wrist curls and finish the workout with an Ab exercise. Using superset technique. 3-4 minutes rest for multi joint movement and 1 minute rest for each isolation superset. Duration about 90 - 100 minutes for entire workout.

Last year, just a month before my birthday in December, I started doing weight lifting followed all the styles, tricks and procedures given by those professionals in the You Tube, including yourself. I started lifting barbell curl for my bisep taking 10kg, now I am able to lift 25 kg. I do some other workouts for tricep, chest, back body, deadlift etc, 5 days a week, one half our a day using dumbell and now I could see my muscle build up esp at my biceps, triceps, shoulder, body, lat and can even see the six pack hihi. I do deadlift too. My bicep veins popping up, but my muscles don't grow bigger than my initial size at the time I measured when I just started. I just go on, hopefully at this age, it can still grow bigger, just like your body hihi.. Just wonder whether at this age can my muscles grow bigger than the original sizes at the time I just started? Tq bro..

As I said it's not an injury but it's just become a bit stiff and sore because of my years of inactivity. I am down to 186 lbs and am 5ft 10 inches so I am hoping to build up some muscle but obviously I need to do it carefully and promote corrective exercises for strengthening and protecting my back. Great advice. My question is, what do you think about bodyweight exercises? Which kind do you prefer? Dumbbells and other devices, or no equipment exercises? I ask this question because your advice is spot on. Thanks and best vibes.

In regards to squats, could you use a hack squat? Wouldn't your back be supported during a hack squat? Also, you can use a hack squat for both your quads and hamstrings?
@250txc5 жыл бұрын
He is totally correct saying it is not too late to start or return to exercising because the body will recover from almost any thing that has caused harm to the body.. Plus will adapt to anything that helps or hurts it... And yes, start in moderation to avoid injury.... Injuries when you are older, just take much longer to heal and usually the fix is to do little or nothing to the injured area... Yes, you are not gonna return to the same state as you were at 20 yr.... -- His nutrition ideas are ok... Just to add to what he says, CARBs are essential to life, our bodies burn almost only burn CARBS as fuel but stay away from too much sugar(CARBS) and ESP the processed sugar (CARBs)... Get CARBS from natural sources and stay away from the processed sugars (CARBs) that are in 99% of all foods we eat today... When CARBS are processed by factories, it strips away some of their natural things and then they give off unhealthy side-effects.. CARBS from natural souces are much much better for the human body...Read up on insulin and you'll understand much more on the sugars we eat... -- Get the protein, such as meats and fats...Both are OK but again, your body needs protein and fats but do not go to the extremes here either.... TRANS fats are being removed from the market and stay away from them....

My advice to any man out there is stop thinking old! Don’t get discouraged when you start, and you gas out fast. Like he said, take it slow. Use extremely lite weight. Just get your blood pumping and your heart rate up. Don’t over do it. Don’t quit! You will be surprised how fast you progress. I am 60. I had a heart attack at 54. After 1 year I got off my meds and went holistic. I have never felt better, and rarely get sick. I swear by lemon, garlic, and honey, in a blender everyday. Build from there with nutrition and healthy eating as much as possible. Don’t try and be perfect. Just take steps towards progress. You will be amazed if you just start. Start somewhere. You can do it! I promise! Old Dudes Rule! God Bless!

@@LiveAnabolic Naturally exercises for us old guys are appealing but I think just as important are the explanations and showing the technique like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/pX69fqpofb-Bf6M&list=FLAqkeGTqJpOma1xD6qmS2aA&index=21 are great I picked up a few things I was doing wrong from that. Having the right technique eliminates the risk of injury so you can train for yrs. For me I aim to be fit and healthy with a reasonable shape, I'm in no way looking to the biggest, baddest guy in the gym ( I'll leave that to the younger guys ). I look forward to following you appreciate the effort you put into your vids.

I'm 58 and my knees are not happy to do squats. Shoulder work outs cause all kinds of pain across my upper back and neck area. I've been doing a lot of bench work with dumb bells. Press etc. I'm ok with that. I am careful though. I can't jog right now because of my foot. I have a stress fracture. I am 14 weeks in and have had some success, slow as heck but success nonetheless. One thing that really worries me is after my workouts, my "right" arm has been at some point in the day becoming completely weak. It gets weak and then I get this shooting pain across the chest. It's scary as heck. I have no pain in the left arm, but I get real still when it happens to me. It just gets so weak in the right arm and then a pain across the chest area. Ever hear of that? Anyone? I am doing my best to NOT over do it. I am not into ego, or trying to prove anything. I'm 58. I know who I am already. I just want to fit my clothes better, look sexy and toned. It's that simple. I have the rest of my life. I've been going slow, slow, slow. Thanks!

I have subscribed to your channel. You have probably given the best down to earth advice a 55yo could hear. Why? Well in my youth I watched a lot of Steve Reeves movies and always wanted a physique like his but I married young so married life, job, kids kicked in. That was excersise down the pan. After 35+ I trained on and off. I'm slim to medium build so I kind of have looked after my health. Again due to shift working patterns and now at age 55 I decided to get back into training but boy am I feeling it. That's for doing training of a young man. Am now watching all your videos on nutrition for us....em...young men.

I am 57 years old. I found this vid because I cannot sleep while working out and taking small amounts of creatine every morning. Also taking small amounts of powdered with BCAA protein in morning. Work out early as well. I found one post on a chat page where a guy claimed his creatine was also keeping him awake. I THINK my insomnia happens when I start working out again after a lay-off and am not used to it. But as I get into better shape the insomnia seems to go away. But I am not working out that hard, not sore, not working out late in day. Also, even though I am only sleeping3- 4 hours a night, I really don't feel bad??? Just looking for answers, not looking to bash any products. Several things give me insomnia, sugar, too many carbs late in the day...spikes your blood sugar. I even have to take my blood pressure med. Amlodipine early in the day or it will keep me awake so maybe creatine does this to some people and not others.

I just subscribed! Question... I finish drywall and it's an insane work out as I stay moving very fast for 7-10 hrs a day and often 6 days a week. I need to get my strength higher but I'm already strong. Where do I get my rest? Is my body used to the work enough that just missing those days of lifting enough or do I have to have those 2 days off a week?

Recover time is longer as we age.... You just gotta rest an extra day maybe 2 days more than in the past and this is essential, along with more sleep if possible to let the body recover... Just the way it is...

I'm 59, been working out on and off most my adult life. Not to get big but to keep my back and core strong I'm getting back into it again but in my job I walk average 80-100kms per week. I'm concerned squats will just be too much on my knees as well as all the walking. What's your thoughts?
