In this video, we'll be discussing 6 common French pronunciation mistakes. Please like the video if you would like to see more videos about French pronunciation and subscribe to the channel. I'll help you nail the most difficult French sounds!
PS. In the video, I exaggerate my articulation and I ask you to do the same. It will help you develop muscle memory for new sounds faster. But you're not supposed to speak this way in real life.
TYPO ALERT. In the first point (00:58), there should be [u] and [y] instead of [ou] and [u]. Ou and u are letters you’ll see in words. But the sounds behind them are transcribed as [u] and [y] respectively. So, in transcription, you’ll see [ru] for roue, and [ry] for rue.

I'm sure your students enjoy and learn French from your instructions. I'm learning with every new tutorial. I can speak some and read some better each day. However, I can not understand any spoken French. I love listening to French songs and movies with subtitles. I know it is due to the pronunciations and word liaisons. This video has been very helpful. Stay safe.

Love how detailed you get with the vowel sounds. I would love more repetition of the sounds for practice. It is very difficult to pick up so quickly. It took me forever to learn how the pronounce the on in Bon.

I love the way you speak French and English but I’m still having challenges with French pronunciation. I don’t have French speakers around me but I just started my French class here in Nigeria but I’m still finding it difficult to differentiate French Alphabets with English Alphabets.

Haha, I so enjoy watching your mouth! More seriously, thank you for showing me how to make lips, tongue-and, I guess even throat(?)/jaw(?) make French vowel sounds. Your use of the International Phonetic Alphabet is helpful, too, as I’m trying to distinguish (in a repeatable way) one sound from another. Additionally, that you use side views for showing jaw placement/movement is very also very helpful. Many other sites are good for learning what to say or how to say it but yours excels in helping me actually make the sounds to say it! Great work! Merci beaucoup!

I can roughly make the sound [y], but I don't know if the tongue is curved and the back of it touches the hard palate, or the tongue remains totally flat and stays down in the mouth. Could you explain it a little further?

Hi i’m french, and when we talk it’s true that the back of our tongue touches the palate. Warning : the front of your tongue have to stay down. Usually she touch the back of our two front teeth ! Maybe my english is not clear enough sorry. Hope you success !

The IPA description terms are quite misleading. /o/ /u/ and /y/ are all called rounded. But in reality, /o/ is genuinely rounded, the other two are not!
