Superb Jon! You have a real knack for this! Thanks. Another question if I may? In another video I think I noticed your buddy (red canoe, IIRC?) had a cover over the bow of his canoe. I think you mentioned he also had more experience in higher class “rapids” than you? He may have even taken your canoe down a particularly intense section? Anyway, it would seem those covers would be huge “safety” item in steep rapids, and/or even getting caught in high wind/big open water crossings. In essence, you’ve turned most of the canoe into a kayak, and would keep a lot of water entering the canoe unexpectedly! Clearly, again, I missing something! 😎 🇺🇸🇨🇦👍

We are pleased that your knee is on the mend and the fact you could negotiate these lakes without portaging is a benefit. Honestly Johnny, I’ve been watching you for three years. Comfortably almost every video in that time. Dude, this is a masterpiece of you and your style of outdoors filmmaking. You are one of my favourites for the quality of cinematography. The framing, music, colour palette, brilliant editing, makes me hunger for your videos. Picture quality I feel you pay attention to and it’s fantastic. One of the elements I enjoy the most is the cerebral element to your film choices. I’m a big fan of Xander and Jim Baird. I also love your buddy adventures with Xander. I also see you like peanut M&Ms. My man. But honestly I am a huge fan of what you do. You have inspired me to get deep into backcountry canoeing and I am blessed to have my 15 year old daughter be down to go with me for the past several years. I really love what you do as an artist. As a wildlife conservationist. And as a cool dude who gets absolutely great artistic and tasteful shots. I’m sorry for the injury but I feel you have found strength and a new direction as a result. Only the best wishes of recovery and joy to you. Please keep doing what you are doing. Your videos have brought such hope and joy to me over the last few years, I feel I must actually thank you. My man. Thanks John. Deano

I think there are many of us who share the same feelings and sentiment as you do. Watching Jon and Erin for the past 3 years has been such an inspiration and positive influence on me, it had been so rewarding to watch his journey from those first humble videos to a gifted videographer and artist. That journey of learning with humility and going from strength to strength is very inspirational l. I am grateful and so glad he’s back happy and healthy. It’s been a long worthwhile wait.

One more thing. Your portage strategy is on point. My advice; when you heal enough to portage again, don't even tell anyone ( and just keep it like it is. Going downstream is what canoes are made for, especially mine. Maybe put in at a lake and take out at the same place. I know I'm a little older and female, but down here it's pretty common for everyone to just go downstream in canoes. Of course we have more linear rivers than water everywhere like The Canadian Shield. Have fun.😊

Hah at 10:23! I had almost asked during earlier correspondence, when discussing Farley Mowat and his books, if you had ever read "Lost In The Barrens" or as it was sometimes, regrettably in my opinion, re-titled "Two Against The North." The main point of the story was, as I recall from nearly six decades ago, the efforts of the two young protagonists in learning to work with the Arctic, its flora, fauna and weather in order to survive--not them fighting against those exigencies! The Norse link was a pleasant surprise--something I was not anticipating when reading the book as a junior high (middle school) or early high school student. Years passed before I read of actual archeological excavations that somewhat mirror the young lads' discoveries! It has been so long ago that I cannot remember if the book was a "youth novel" or if it simply featured two youthful characters. In that same time-frame, I was reading such dark and decidedly not youth-oriented fare as Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying" novels; thus, either might be the case. (His "The Bear" first brought me to Faulkner's writing. I was interested in wilderness and hunting from a very early age.)

yeah! You are back .Watched the video last night and totally enjoyed it. So happy your recovery is going well. Really missed your videos. Earlier yesterday I thought about you and was going to send you a message and l then checked You Tube and there you were . lt looked like a fantastic trip and all the sweeter for having had a forced time away.

Glad to see you back where you are most at home and not pushing that knee too hard. Good for you, enjoyed the video as always.

It is often said that you don't know what you miss until it's gone. That's the case with you and your channel Jon. So very happy to see you back out there once more, living the life you so obviously were born to live. Welcome back buddy!!!🤩❤

Havent watched yet; just wanted to come down here and give my thanks for yet another movie of your travels, Jon. Especially given the context regarding your knee (also very impressed that you're already out and about), I am extra grateful for this one. Hope the knee is healing well! Take care

Fantastic Video! I literally said "yeesssss" when I saw your video post! It's so good to see you back out and doing your thing again as we can all see how much joy it truly brings you! I really like your style of moving/living/going with nature. Not bending nature to your will but seeing the hospitality that is already there. I don't know if that makes sense at all but I feel I have a similar approach to being out in nature.
