South Park's schedule is what keeps them relevant. Being able to react to major news stories or events and put it into an episode right away. If they did it with everyone else, the news cycle is over and forgotten about. Like it would be a reference but not topical

but that can be a double edge sword as if you rewatch older episode but without the historical/political context of that time, then i doesn't hit like it should. for example stan jacking it in san diego that was a kony 2012 reference. the manbeatpig and al gore stuff. i've seen people totally miss the 300 reference in that episode with ms garisson saving the lesbian bar when the entirety of the episode is just a big 300 reference so if you don't have it then it lose like 75% of its intent. there was also ocean 11 parody, a I shouldn't be Alive parody and a lot of other. some Heavy metal parody episode and even some "obscure" reference to some John Carpenter movie like They Live. so as much as i can enhance the experience. if the reference goes above your head then you are just standing here thinking " well ok, i didn't understand at all what they were trying to do here".

@@CheerfullyCynical829 You forgot he writes and compses all the songs, and unlike others who just compse what is needed. He makes full versions of them Not saying it's not difficult I couldn't do it. But until they cut back the episodes to 10 and now 6. They worked 14 weeks a year getting paid millions. And Matt took that money from their early participation profit from the movie. Figured out how to give them a networth of 100 million dollars each by making smart investments. In big part because they wanted to be able to be financially independent. Plus be the ones who could buy the majority share of the digital rights of the show. Without them SPS website wouldn't be a things. And you see Matt does help out with voice directing one of the main two female actors. Don't deny Trey does the heavy lifts. But he needs Matt when time is short to ping pong beats and fill in the gaps. They complete each other.

The fact that Trey and Matt remained in control writing and producing is basically unheard of. Normally the people who create a show cartoon or live action will only stay on (the creative side) for the first two seasons before handing it off to other writers and producers. It's a big reason why it's such a continuously good show. They also didn't become raging Hollywood assholes. They remained grounded. South Park is great, the movie is great, team America is great, book of Mormon is one hell of a musical. Even their old stuff; baseketball, orgazmo, cannibal the musical, is good.

No the last part where he views the episode is making sure that there isn't something wrong with it. So incase there is a technical problem whatever it is he can rush back to the office and get another copy. There is no way to for them to say "we don't like it" and have them change things that late. It's why you see them talk to standards and practice during the week, so that they don't waste time doing something that gets a 100%. Because they are on a network and not on cable they can't do whatever they want. If they ever were to buy the rest of the 50% if the show from comedy central and do it on hbo or more paramount plus episodes. Where legally they can do almost anything they want. But part of the fun for them is pushing the envolope on network TV.

I think South Park does half the episodes per season now compared to what they used to do. This gives them two weeks per episode, which is still extremely quick, while also giving them some more breathing room and less stress to make episodes. They also make one special per season now to make up for the lack of episodes.

41:00 It is likely are told how the hours are when they are hired, and are probably very well compensated, because this is a rather small staff for such a popular show. Additionally because of the way they handle the show they are basically are only working 3 months out of the year and have the rest of the year off, most shows will be working on a season immediately after the last one ended but not South Park. So good salary pay and short work year likely make it very rewarding place to work.

It's not actually every episode in 6 days. They do a lot of brainstorming at writers retreats before the season starts, it gets some seeds of ideas started. Some episodes sit at half finished for a few weeks until they have no ideas and they figure the rest out. And funnily enough they say the episodes they do in a week are the easiest and techniques they think about too long are difficult. The longest episode to produce was major boobage, about 6 months plus research time prior. They had to do traditional hand animation for the tripping scenes and hired contractors to help, it was 6 months of drawing.

The issue with if they were doing it the same way other studios do is that the show would feel less topical. It would definitely still be good. Thats proven by how much you enjoy the older episodes of things that are now outdated. But if you're watching it as it airs, it does add that little bit more to it that they're making jokes on things currently happening. Especially with this era of the Internet where everyone forgets about anything that isn't a meme in a week, the jokes would already feel outdated as they air

Its funny cause this was for "Humancentipad" but we see idea they decided to reuse later, like at 6 minutes, "Kevin James is a zookeeper!". Pretty sure thats from the episode where Stan gets depressed and sees everything as shit. They even talked about crack babies wich wasnt just a joke but a whole plot in the end lol. Their type of writing is crazy cause sometimes you can really be like, ok this bothered them that week so they made it a plot, but it makes so much gold. I legit couldnt do it, yes theyre off rest of the year but they still got other stuff and theyre working theyre asses off during that small period, massive respect! 🙃 and for your question, i think it would be a loooot different, if youre able to do something quick but take too much time, you start doubting the product more and more, and seeing how they got to be away for a while from an episode is done shows they would change so much if they could. But majority of the episodes we get are amazing so i dont think id trade it 😁

I loved Legos as a kid and when I had kids and they started getting Legos I loved helping them putting them together. I would love to get a LEGO set for myself but I want to get a good one and right now I can't justify spending $78 on LEGO set. But I can say when I was a kid, I would put the sets together, and I would put them together the way they're supposed to be, and for about a week I would love them, and then they would start to break and I'd have issues and then I would just break the whole thing apart and combine it with the rest of my Legos😅

I don't mean to sound as if I'm talking down, I hope it comes across as educational. Just thought there should be some clarification. It's not really about which one of them is funnier and Matt saying he's not as funny as Trey. Trey is really funny no doubt about it but he's, and I'm saying this as a positive, softer than Matt. They have similar attitudes but Matt has some harder edges to him. What he's talking about is has more to do with knowing he doesn't have the skill set to work as a director and certainly not that rare combo of writer directors. Most in the industry does one of those jobs, Trey can do both. It affords Matt to have the freedom to come up with some of the most outlandish ideas. Or just venting his frustration about a topic and then Trey sees the tetris blocks of how to fit it into a story that makes sense. And as you see during the final day they can ping pong it back and forth when the entire story has been outlined to fill in the gaps of what they know they want in the show.

Aw. You gotta check out Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Might not be your thing because they’ve been copied or inspired others for decades, but they were utterly groundbreaking at the time. Used to cause controversy in their day. Easy to see how it influenced Trey. They were a British tv show and then made a few films. Best known film is The Holy Grail which eventually was reimagined as a Broadway musical called Spamalot. But my personal favorite is The Life of Brian. They wanted to make a comedy movie about Jesus, but John Cleese has said that when you get down to it, there wasn’t much to make fun of about the man Jesus because he was just a guy who wanted everyone to get along. So they created Brian who lives at the same time and accidentally walks a similar path. So they end up mocking everything AROUND Jesus like fanatics or religious doctrines, without mocking the actual man. It’s great. Their whole thing was irreverence. Pointing out that everything is actually very silly and the more serious we are expected to take it, the sillier it really is.

Just google Monty Python Animation, you'll see what hes talkin about. Terry Gilliam did the cartoons for that show and he was Trey's hero. And Eric Idle, one of the Python's, is in the South Park movie.
