I like your masking technique. I've always found my digital watercolour attempts end up too 'blurry' looking, so I'm excited to try this method out. Great series btw.

Hi Robert. Did my first paintingwhile following along. I made masks and saved them in the channels panel and they were very useful indeed. It was great fun. I will send you a link to the flickr page when I figure out how to make a JPG while keeping the rich colors of the original's color profile. thanks again, Uhane

Yes, do File/Save for Web and make sure the Convert to sRGB box is checked. That way the image will display well as a jpg and on the web without losing color. Robert

Hi Robert! Your videos are wonderful! I'd really love to try your tools. I see that you have a tool set for pre CS5. I'm using CS3 and am wondering if there's anything I won't be able to do because of the older version of Photoshop? Thank you!

Hello Robert, Thanks for your tutorial, it's wonderful! Is it very important in the first brush to create the shape? It 's had been set to 40%opacity, the second brush will be overlap, how can I do? Thanks a lot

Hi Robert, Thanks for the tutorial. I am having one problem - in places where the petals overlap the ink bleeds creating a dark edge around the petals. not sure what I'm doing wrong, could you help? thank you

May Wong Hello Robert, Thanks for your tutorial, it's wonderful! Is it very important in the first brush to create the shape? It 's had been set to 40%opacity, the second brush will be overlap, how can I do? Hi May ... I'm really doing two things in one here: painting an underlying layer (or an underpainting) and using this to create a layer mask. There is no need to do it in this way as you can create the layer mask separately and then paint. Or you can paint without a layer mask at all, if you prefer. The layer mask just makes it easier as you don't need to be so careful around the edges. If you do it in the way that I have in this video then you should try and paint the underpainting in one go so that you don't get the overlap you're talking about. But if you do get an overlap that's OK as it will not affect the layer mask and you can always use a blender to soften the overlap. Robert
