Firstly give Doug way too much credit and secondly you're going to find a lot of cars that just so happened to be sellable on his auction. In the end it really doesn't matter if the prices go up or whatever, it just matters that they move!

Funny that Doug mentions a few cars I have had some experience with. 1. I bought an LS460 2008 new from the Lexus showroom, and still drive it today (14 years old). Still drives great. Have maintained all along meticulously (also with relatively low mileage) and despite some niggles in the 07-09 models, still worth owning. It’s hard to justify replacing because my LS is still so comfortable, smooth and reliable. Verdict: winning. 2. My wife drove a 2008 VW Touareg bought new, and we drove it for about 6-7 years. First years were fine, but expensive parts/service and lots of little issues. Depreciated like crazy and sold it for a song. 2010- models look much better. Verdict: should have bought a Land Cruiser 3. I bought a cheap Mercedes G320 and spent a lot fixing it up. Drivetrain has been rock solid, very comfortable to drive, BUT tons of issues with electronics, central locking system, comfort features. It’s a bit of a money pit and not sure if I can recoup what I put it. But still, a cool, capable car. My hope to is to get it up to 100% condition and then keep indefinitely. Prefer the V6 for efficiency. Verdict: jury is still out. 4. Classic Toyota Century is very high on my wish list. They come up for sale in Dubai for $15-20K. Tempting! Btw all these cars were driven in Dubai, with extreme weather, heat etc. Your experience may vary depending on your location.

I still vote for Lincoln Town Cars. Doug did a pretty good video about them a few years ago. Sure, they're getting long in the tooth ...but they still make the best value proposition so far as I can see. They're reliable. Durable. Get good gas mileage (23/24 mpg) and take regular, not premium gas. It's also cheap and easy to find new and used parts. And cheap to insure. Moved into a 13 Lexus ES after my last Town Car. New 05 Lexus IS 300 owner here, back in the day, so I'm familiar with Lexus. Interior's already falling apart around the engine on the ES350 and parts are 2/3 times what I'd pay for the Lincoln. Gummy rubber dash, worn out leather or nuluxe bolsters and door trim. And having off gassing issues with the windshield, that's a new one on me. Don't get me wrong, Town Cars have their issues, water leaks for starters, but overall, they make for the best value proposition. That said, no girlfriend, wife, or X wife's ever said a kind word about them. That Lexus tho. lol.

4 years ago I fell into a silver 2004 Lincoln Town Car that the owners son was trying to prepare for sale. She was 79 and quit driving and it sat unused in the garage. I bought a 2011 Equus Signature in 2015 with 50k miles. It has been a really great car. The only substantive repairs were replacing the rear air bags (common issue) and front air struts at around 100k. If you buy the parts on ebay and have an Indy install them, it's about $1200-$1500. At the dealership, LOTS more expensive. My buddy has the LS 460 from 2010. I think his seats are more comfortable, he thinks mine rides nicer. His LS gets almost 30 mpg on the highway; mine gets low-mid 20s. Both really great cars,

This comment is a good highlight of 'cheap' luxury ownership though. $1200-$1500 is not 'cheap', but 'cheap' for a luxury car. Don't buy a cheap luxury car unless you can shell out 1.5K randomly. Not quite correct. Hyundai (Genesis) Equus came out in 1999 but that 1G wasn't sold in the US (or NA in general) until its second generation in 2010 model year. Almost nobody would be caught dead in a Town Car/Grand Marquis today, except my great-great-great grandmother.

I would add the 1998-2011 Lincoln Town Car (and Mercury Grand Marquis) to this list. They were made in huge quantities so the cars and parts are widely available and cheap, many can still be found with extremely low mileage as a large portion of them are sold to old folks, and they were made with one of the most reliable engines Ford has ever made! I bought a 2004 LTC in 2020 with 4500 miles on the clock for only $15K. It was in brand new condition. Extremely comfortable to drive, quiet, very good mileage on the freeway given it's a V8, easy to work on, parts literally everywhere. I've seen many with 300-400K miles on them still running and on the road. They're not high tech, but they're cheap, luxurious, comfortable and run danged near forever! Any more questions? Doug has a video on this exact model!

Good to have some confirmation, I did some research last month and came up with the Lexus ES350 for a cheap-ish, reliable car, and found one about 500 miles away, so I flew there and picked it up. Small cosmetic issues, the biggest thing was they sold it with the front brake calipers frozen, after claiming to do a "Level 4" inspection. Still, $9000 ain't bad.

One luxury sedan that's often overlooked and could be had at an affordable price is the second generation 2005-12 Acura RL. It was well equipped for the price at the time with only a couple of option packages(technology and sporty A Spec), has standard SH(Super Handling) AWD which is regarded as one of the best AWD systems on the market, a 290 hp 3.5L V6 engine(later upgraded to a 300hp 3.7 L V6 in 2009), and has the legendary Honda reliability. The only downside is that the rear seat room is slightly smaller than some competitors but it's still comfortable and the V6 still uses a timing belt which requires replacement every 90K-100K miles. Other than that, it's still a good buy.
