siennavine81 Is that supposed to be insulting to her? There are tons of meals you can make for under a dollar a meal, easy. Cabbage stirfry with pork and rice is a great meal for under a dollar each. Salmon cakes and quinoa salad, real Mac and cheese, chicken meat loaf with a seasonal root veggie mash, summer rolls with home made pork sausage and asian coleslaw, chilli and cornbread, chow mein... These are things I've made in the last 3 weeks that are under a dollar a meal. If you can't achieve that price point, you are limited by your imagination or can't be bothered to try.

A big bag of pasta is about 50p, tinned tomatoes are 30p, cheap cream cheese is 50p, garlic is 30p, onions are 15p. I made enough food for six days, plus garlic and pasta left over, for £1.75. 30p per meal. The most expensive thing is stocking up on dried herbs, but that's a one-time purchase. @SpadesHeart7 жыл бұрын
For a lot of people, it's not what they're eating but how much. Meal prep is great for portion control. It's a really holistic approach to calorie counting honestly. Last time I lost a lot of weight, that's how I did it. On another note, regardless of restaurants being more expensive, these guys did not shop with budget in mind. These are not cheap meals, but really, very easily could be. For example, you can buy pre-frozen berries which would cut the cost of those smoothies by more than half. Get rid of the greek yogurt as well. Those breakfast sandwiches should also be much cheaper as ham, eggs and bread aren't all that expensive. The vegetables being used were not inexpensive; asparagus and cherry tomatoes aren't exactly budget options. The splurging on fresh herbs also kills your budget. I don't know how those pizza's were that expensive if they made their own dough, a jar of tomato sauce is like a dollar, a brick of cheese is like $4, really those should have been under a dollar each. Same with the pasta, pasta is cheap. I can understand meat being expensive but you can shop sales. Once your pantry is stocked with your grains and dough and spices, you can easily get by on $20 a week and eat well.

If is in the bag already, you take it out of the bag, put it into the blender, and blend. If this is done ahead of time, it is quicker. You guys, food in the US is so expensive. 😲It's easily 4x more than Germany for basics like flour, sugar, or vegetables. For almost everyone, fast food and restaurants are cheaper than cooking, which is so unhealthy.

But it also depends how you shop, and location. Say you were in Los Angelas, the food will more expensive then going to Ohio. The grocery stores put all the expensive stuff at eye level so thats the first thing you see. So look up or down if you want the cheaper things. Buy more off brand stuff too because they can be the same exacthing but for a cheaper price. And a plus, most grocery stores have all the things you need around aisles so if you avoid the aisles, then you will also save money 😊

Here's an easy chili recipe that only costs me $6 to make (feeds 3). 1 pound ground beef (85% lean) 1 pound can of Kidney Beans 2 cans of tomato sauce 1 yellow onion 1 green bell pepper 1 head of garlic 3 bay leaves Seasoning I use is Cayenne Pepper, black pepper, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and a packet of sazon. I do it to taste. (If you're lazy or go too heavy handed, a taco seasoning pack would work fine...) Mince half the onion, bell pepper, and 3-4 cloves of garlic as finely as you can. In a pan on high heat, add oil. When the oil begins to smoke, add your onion and bell pepper. When soft, add your garlic. When the garlic becomes brown and soft, lower the heat and add your ground beef. (At this point, I season the meat VERY LIGHTLY. If you're using a taco season pack, just add about 1/4 of it). Combine your meat, vegetables, and spices and let the beef brown. While this happens, take a separate pot and prepare the beans. Strain all the slime from the can of beans thoroughly. You can use a colander to make it easier, but I do it from the pot by rinsing, shaking the beans with my hand, and draining the water until it stops foaming up. Cover the beans with water in the pot and place the pot on the stove. Add 1 clove of garlic (peeled) and only your pepper, a bit of sazon, and garlic powder. (DONT USE TACO SEASONING) and let the beans soften over low heat. You don't want to cook them completely yet. Once brown, In a slow cooker or large pot, add your meat. Pour all the beans in as well as 1/3 the bean water (keep the rest in case you overcook your chili and need to add water). Now, add your two cans of tomato sauce and your bay leaves. Add the rest of your seasonings and your spices of choice (or the remainder of your taco packet). Let it simmer until thick and BOOM! Chili. Serve over rice or chips and top with cheese. May not be the best chili, but a cold night with empty pockets makes this hit the spot

@theresevincent27637 жыл бұрын
Because here in the northern part of the U.S. Fruits aren't in season in the winter. If you can get farm fresh fruits when they're in season you can freeze them for the winter.

I wanna know where they based their prices from? Did they get the average cost of an ingredient and then divide by the size of the portions they made? You can throw a low number up and say it's a cheap dinner but I'd like some sources cited. In my town, a box of penne costs the same as one dinner in this video.
