I have a related Instagram account, I'm also all over it on FB. My main focus is polymer claying and I hope to get some brand deals soon. You're totally right, age shouldn't be a barrier - curiosity, ambition and experience are more important.

Tears are flowing bc of this video. I just received my 30 days notice on a very high paying job that I've HATED for 20 years. I've been studying and dreaming of starting in SM, but that negative voice in my head has said I'm too old and my peers who might be interested in my content don't use YT and other apps anyway. I'm going to shut that voice down and go for it, even if I fail. At least I'll die having lived. Thanks Gary!

Go for it Andrea!! Do it! You certainly can - and if you step up the game right now online, you'll be there amongst the first. The trend is unstoppable. Here in Singapore I regularly see 50-60 + year olds on their smartphones in the trains watching their favourite shows. Whatever it is that you're passionate about, you can do it. Don't give it. It might take ten years. Maybe 15. But think about where society is in 15 years from now and you actually took the next step now, in 2016! You rock.
@YTBaldrick8 жыл бұрын
Actually the video affected me as well, and your comment affected me even more. OK +Andrea Fletcher, I understand it really sucks having been let go, and from a very high paying job, and it was one that you have HATED, and after 20 years, but that is where the negativity ends. So let's see the positive, which YOU can actually touch. You have had a job high paying (means really important and a lot of responsibility) for TWENTY YEARS, so this means today you have TONS of experience, TONS. Don't remember your job, but remember the TONS of experience. You are so ahead of the rest of us, and the young and foolish generation. I wish you the best, but you don't need luck. GO and ATTACK and don't leave anyone standing in your wake. You Can Do It. Also, you only fail if you quit, but if keep going, then you can only succeed, I believe this absolutely.

You are right Mr. Vaynerchuk. I'm a great-grandmother. I started a little book business on Amazon back in 2000 with 25 cents at a thrift store.. on a dare. It grew into a nice little business that supported me for a number of years. People asked me how I did it, but when I told them to just start doing something they were interested in online, they just didn't get it. They were waiting for someone to come along with a "magic wand" and tap them and say "you are an entrapreneur". Or they wanted to be told EXACTLY what to do (and think)! They just would not believe in themselves. I find it amazing. Just like a few years ago when I was 59 (okay more than a few), I decided to learn something that would engage my grandchildren (and great-grandchild), so I took up juggling... really.. And now I am a very good juggler and I teach it from time to time at nursing homes. Do you know how EMPOWERING it is for a 80something year old wheelchair bound person to juggle even a little bit.. when they know the 20 year old nurse can't do it at all? It's amazing ... that' the secret... LIFE is amazing, IF you let it be. Thank you Mr. Vaynerchuk.. for being Amazing!!!

Thank you so much for this.... The experience of empowering someone at 80 to do something which they thought they couldnt really teaches us and opens our eyes a lot about the power that we have as younger people to give back hope to those who once looked after us... And in the context of gary vee, is that we need to see the world differently and look at people differently and believe that everyone still has a shot at having a lust for life and experiencing new things or chasing new dreams regardless our age as long as the will to learn or the drive to do something is still there... Much love from CG and I here in Malaysia...

My mum is 54 and has been going through a real hard depressive stage for almost a decade now. I feel like she's given up on everything and I feel helpless. I've been there myself in a depressive stage so I understand, but not to that extent. I'm 24 years old and haven't cried since I was maybe 20-21. When you said "You're 50! You could live another 40 years, you can still make something of your life" I really teared up man. I didn't cry, but that brought the most emotion to myself than I've felt in a long time. I'd like to also add that I never comment on KZbin videos, but I had to here. Thank you Gary!

Which is truthfully how I feel it is, because that is what I am seeing. Like you say, no excuses. I just have to be the one to make it happen. I guess only time will tell. "It's too late now" has been popping into my head for years. Probably the first time was when I was around 15 and I wanted to learn martial arts and I seriously questioned if I was too old for it... because everyone I knew who did it before started several years before. Then years later I laughed like wtf was I thinking, 15 was still so young and I had plenty of time to learn. I took that and feeling of "wtf was I thinking saying it was too late" and every time "it's too late" pops into my head, I remind myself... it's just a bullshit excuse, it's just fear of the unknown disguising itself. I'm 25 and it still pops into my head. The truth is that it pops into everyone's head... there's just people who lie to themselves and accept that bullshit or say fuck that, I'm doing this anyways. I've seen it time and time again 60-70+ year olds do stuff that 30-50 year olds say "it's too late to start now". And here's the secret, most people learn stuff at a very slow pace. If you truly dedicate yourself you can excel at an insane pace that'll leave people calling you a "prodigy" or "lucky talent" because they don't see the extra hard work that can be put into something when you truly want to do it and go ALL IN. So just take that damn thing you've been talking about for so long and START IT NOW. All you have is right now.

Well the best place to begin...is where you are right? Don't worry about the middle. Get an idea about where you want to end up and everyday do something to get you closer to that point. I think we're the first generation who realizes that retirement in the traditional sense isn't going to be possible / realistic. We've been brought up to think that a career is over at 55-60 - so it's reconciling the fact that we will need to keep working to support ourselves financially but how? Doing what? The idea of a passion career -- doing something you LOVE, vs. working to pay the bills. Learn the craft & tools -- you've got the experience -- just marry the two. And have FUN! #PassionCareer
@Deliquescentinsight9 жыл бұрын
+Monique Ramsey Not only is retirement at 60-65 not possible for many, it is not desirable either, who wants to slowly vegetate, the mind continues to grow to develop and the body can be kept strong and agile our traditional ideas about the usefulness of people is so very limited and wrong.

Thank you for the hope, Gary!! I've only been actively trying to build a new life for the past two years. I get not only the inner whispers of being too old, but sometimes the outer ones where people flat out say to stop dreaming because I'm too old. My current philosophy is "get busy living or get busy dying". And, you didn't have to tell me to watch this again, sir. I saved it to silence the doubts. Thank you!

I say this pretty often about Gary V's videos but, as a 36 year old with 40 approaching closer every day, I needed to hear this. The only nagging limiting belief I ever have is "maybe it's too late". Watching this video, that voice is all but silenced.

This video, more than any of the other ones I've watched so far, has made me so happy and so excited about aging. I'm 25, and yet this speaks to me. Thank you for waking up the part of us that so often is not refueled. Maybe when we are very young, people, teachers, and parents continue to give us that excitement, but there's an age where it's up to us to keep that fire going and nobody around us will ask or expect it. Thank you for expecting it, asking about it, and genuinely caring about it.

This one is for guys like me, I am kind of a late bloomer - rebel type and right now I am 42. time moves at an amazing pace. Sometimes I think ,could it be to late for what I am trying to achieve for the past three years orso . . .? but I am getting better and better silencing that voice and seeing what an immense knowledge I possess, execution is the big dragon I need to slay on a daily bases especially when still employed on and off (at best) Sometimes it's pretty difficult how to get some kind of balance when you're on a quest in life. Some people think I am nuts for sure. It's a damn lonely road though, when you don't have that kind of backing and support in life. I am determined to get to this vision that sometimes is as clear as hell then other times fogs up when in doubt or when I feel down. Gary is one hell of a positive person to want to emulate. (personally I started meditating now and then, it really does shift your focus and keeps you more grounded) haha I kinda drifted somewhat of-topic by now. If you want something 'go get it' period! I still have a pretty long road ahead but it's getting more and more exciting by the day:) #unstoppable

You are amazing! So glad I found you! I have to admit, I dread the thought of getting older but really, the alternative sucks. And you're right, getting older means having more experience, being able to give and share that! The only thing that can stop us is us. You just made my day! Thank you!

Thank you Gary! I needed to hear this TODAY. I just turned 60 in May. I have grown some businesses in my day... but I never turned them into NEXT LEVEL sort of stuff... because I let life and excuses hold me back. Time to ramp up this new part of an existing company I'm starting. Hearing what you said here... is the wicked important fuel to help further kick me in the ass... to really step up my game. NOW.

+MrOptimisticc don't use your setbacks as a crutch. Use them as an opportunity to find a way around them. Once you find your way around them, then you've made yourself smarter. Then the next thing you do you'll do even better because you'll be smarter. Opportunities are not always golden. sometimes they stem from setbacks.

I spent over 10 years trying to make a business work and failed...hardcore. I am 31, so...older millenial. I switched gears. I started fresh mastering a new craft! I am up until 1 or 2 am most nights learning and doing. I hustle during the day. My goal is to add value to those around me. I haven't been this alive in FOREVER! I was existing. Now, every part of me is electrified! Thank you for this video. It's very confirming.

Today I am 70! Thank you for this birthday gift. I began writing books, video books, podcasts all about getting and keeping sober. I stopped drinking in an abusive home in a third world country at 57 years old. I have a great life now. I escaped back to USA after 21 years away. I became an addiction recovery coach. I had to stop writing and podcasting in order to get debt free. That will be done this November. My wonderful hubby and I are retiring at last, we became minimalist, we have a ticket to our new seasonal paradise in Huatulco! We have a studio apartment ther, my tech equipment packed and I will soon get back to my mission. I am learning from wonderful people like you on KZbin! I must share my message of recovery and restoration to the ladies who need it. thank you.
