@Deb57c & @ArcticBlessingFarmAlaska Thank you for the suggestion. I have been trying all sorts of remedies on the other cooler. Trying to find solutions other than the newspaper, just for the sake of what can I use if I don't have newsprint on hand??? So I will give this a try. I tried a banana as I had heard leaving a banana in there for a couple of days would work. It did at first, and then on day three it smelled of an old worn gym sock! 🤢

The smell is probably in the seal, at least in part. Bleach is about the best way to rid mold. Other natural elements like zinc can help kill and prevent mold. Zinc anodes are available for evaporative coolers which I have used.

Hi Bill! I would never have thought that I would drive hundreds of miles just to save a buck! 😂 I used to tease my friends for shopping at multiple stores each week just to the sale items. And those stores were just across the street from each other. Now look at me!!! 😳 Kharma! 🤣 Thank goodness I know what I like to eat, or I would have a pantry full of random things that never look appetizing. Too bad the "Pioneer Woman" has been trademarked, or I would have probably chosen that for my channel name. 😉 💛

I am an ethical Vegan UK Hedgewitch live in semi rural area, but amenities are near by, I love animals and nature and love vegan cookery. Plant foods for me never spoil and go on forever. I guess if you have a power failure you could cobble up a freezer for your stuff outside? luv n light x ps TIP - once those rose petals drop off you can infuse them in distilled water for 2 months strain off and you have a lovely beauty rose water toner!

HI Alone. I guess it pays off to road trip with a neighbor outside of your local area, but still so expensive. Thank you for the newspaper tip! Other use for ginger ale; 1) you can soak a ham in ginger ale for 4 hours before baking to draw out salt or 2) depending on the size of your ham, a half to 3/4 cup poured over the ham mid-baking time adds a touch of sweetness and draw out salt. Latter is something my Mom did and I still do. Hope all is well, hugs for Kenai!

Our first trip to Costco we thought we spent more than we did. Walking up to the register we started taking bets in how much went spent. We both went wayyyy over what we actually paid. Hi Rob & Sarah! Last fall, I had it planned out in advance what I thought it was going to cost me. I was just slightly over budget. Wasilla is definitely the best option for me. Others have suggested that I go to Anchorage so I don't pay tax, but last I checked there isn't tax on groceries, unless you are buying prepared items, like a rotisserie chicken or deli dishes. And while fuel to get to Wasilla/Palmer is a bit costly, I always make sure to hit as many errands on my list as possible when I go. 🤗💛

Those roses were absolutely gorgeous, what a way to brighten up the cabin. Girl, those grocery prices gave me heart palpitations. In a suburb of Dallas, we pay $2.49 for that same butter when it goes on sale about once a month or so. The price differences in the different towns were shocking too and I would jump at the chance to go with a neighbor to save on costs. The creepy camera equipment that follows you around has really been an upgrade and makes a big difference. Only kind of kidding about the camera being creepy. Thanks for taking us on a beautiful ride and sharing so many tips and tricks. Who knew that newspaper would work in the cooler. I thought about the charcoal, but now you can save it for a bbq. Sending good vibes for the job hunt and thanks again!

Hi Lauri! The prices in Alaska are all over the map! No pun intended. It is cheaper to shop in Valdez or even Fairbanks than it is in Glennallen, and when I saw things were less expensive in Barrow, which can only be reached by ship or plane, I was shocked! 😳 Those roses won me over as soon as I walked in the door! They are so fragrant and the colors just popped! My mom always had ginger ale or 7-Up on hand for when we got an upset stomach as a kid. I figured I should probably have some on hand too. You just never know when you might need it. I will get the blue cheese dressing recipe posted soon. Thanks for the compliment on the dress and cardigan. Still binge watching your vlogs from the beginning. :) But the blue cheese dressing recipe peeked my interest as we love it. Also, you should really try doing some shopping at Costco. I think price wise and to buy in bulk...its gotta be a bit cheaper. Both Fairbanks and Anchorage have a Costco. I do not live in Alaska but because i am so much like you and always wanted to live off grid in Alaska, we have settled for just visiting a few times a year. We are huge aurora fans also. Here in MN its much like Alaska accept our winters have been much warmer...and much less snow if any, which is odd. thanks for the vlogs..

Interesting price comparisons. Hadn’t heard of the newsprint trick, cool! 😮

Who would have ever thought that Barrow would be less expensive than Glennallen! Super happy the newsprint worked on the cooler. I was afraid the Yeti was ruined. 😳

Howdy Allie!! Yeah, looking at those price comparisons, I think I'd be driving to Wasilla for my big grocery hauls! Except for me in Ninilchik it would be 3 Bears mini-store there, or go up to Soldotna (45 minutes) where there is a big 3 Bears, Fred Meyers, and Safeway. But then again, I'm just a driving fool... or maybe just a plain old fool!! lol.

Howdy Partner! Glennallen is too pricy for my moth ridden pocketbook! I love the 3 bears stores, whether it is the convenience store or their lager grocery stores. I did hear that they have taken on a corporate sponsor and that they have changed a bit since I have been in one but hoping that they still have a good selection and quality, not to mention that I hope they don't lose that small town store feel. You know what they say about fools, right? Takes one to know one! 😉

@@AloneinRemoteAlaska I get the weekly sales flier from 3 Bears via email. It's surprising to me that some of the advertised prices are so much lower than down here in south Texas! I hope nothing changes with 3 Bears as well, I like the mini-store in Ninilchik for quick stuff, and the main store in Soldotna for most of my other shopping (when I'm up there that is... lol), and get some stuff from Freddy's in Soldotna. I know Sean works for Safeway, but I've just never been a real fan of their stores or selection. I have gotten some really good feedback on the Alaska house plan, people are so eager and willing to share their thoughts and suggestions... it's NICE!! And what exactly are you saying regarding "takes one to know one"??? LOL!!! I know I'm one, so does that imply you too are a fool for knowing I'm one??? LOL... I don't think so, you're a wise young woman (compared to this old fart!!)... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
