Your "developing close relationships with staff" reason is very telling to who you are as a person. I used to work for a private practice specialist who would openly demean staff members behind their backs, to their faces, and in front of patients. He thought his degree/training made him inherently above them, and entitled him to treat them like garbage. He was an extreme narcissist who only saw staff members as tools to further the practice and feed his ego, not as human beings trying to provide for themselves and their families. As a medical student now, I never want to lose sight of how we enter this profession because we want to help people and develop relationships with them. How we interact with people who we technically have "power" over, whether they be patients or staff, is a direct reflection of our character and investment in helping others rather than just ourselves. Keep up the good work!

Question about the vacation: I remember you mentioned about 10-14 weeks per year, I was wondering if that’s on top of the weekends and holidays? Or that includes the missed weekends and holidays..? Because I am assuming that you and your partner physicians have to work weekends/holiday shifts right? But either way, lots of vacation is absolutely amazing 😎

Your videos help me know what to expect and how to be a supportive wife. I realize a lot of it depends on the specialty and country of residence but it's still nice to learn from you. So thanks, doc! P.s. I really enjoy when your wife makes an appearance - it's always helpful to hear her perspective :)

I swear this is a genuine question, but how do physicians have full autonomy when the average work week is like 60 hours, and neurosurgeons having like 80 hour work weeks?

@tomare64792 жыл бұрын

full autonomy as in making medical decisions, not freedom to do what you want with your time.

Our healthcare system and culture of medicine persists by breaking the backs of the good natured people called to this profession. Autonomy in this sense only means autonomy within the four walls of the hospital. And (if we’re being honest) administration and insurances will dictate more care than you think. I’m glad that doc finds value in his position, but it should be said that many specialties don’t enjoy the same rewards. I can’t count the number of emergency physicians and hospitalists I know who go to work to grind out a shift among an ever changing milieu of new staff and new patients; the relationships lost along the way.
@emiledin21832 жыл бұрын
@@DrCellini Oh I thought you meant autonomy with your work schedule, not decision making. In tech, you have a lot of autonomy when it comes to when you want to work during the day etc..

Idk why he never mentions how much he makes now as an attending in his specialty? Being a financial education person, and someone who tells us the numbers for the real estate investment he makes and the earnings, why not share the doctor earnings? Plus he shared the earnings for the doctor in training, but not for the doctor after training is done? Lol all he says its that he feels "fairly compensated" or something like that. Never gives out a number.
