I miss the old _old_ Cooper S...with the 1275cc engine and no turbo. Slow my today's standards, they were a giant killer in their time, and still IMO handle better than any car out there today. A really phenomenal design. Plus, I'm old. :-) Edit: And yes, I'm aware that they weren't actually hatchbacks. LOL
@basithph89585 жыл бұрын
aussiebloke609 even to this day there are good hot hatches like the Golf R, Focus RS, Civic Type R, and Veloster N The Yaris GRMN has to be the best hot hatch of today’s standards especially with not only a supercharged engine but it’s affordable price it was limited edition too But I miss old hot hatches too
@aussiebloke6095 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's plenty of good ones out there. I currently have a '16 Veloster Turbo (not an N, so it's more of a "warm hatch"...but it's stick shift, so still fun to drive.) But if you've ever had the chance to really drive an old Morris or Austin Cooper S, you'll know what "go-kart handling" really means. They are still head and shoulders above what's available today - even more amazing that it was designed as an efficient city car in the late '50s.
@basithph89585 жыл бұрын
aussiebloke609 the go-kart handling is one thing that I love in a hot hatch And the N is better than the Turbo imo

I've owned a few cars... Including multiple Turbo Imprezas, MR2 Rev3 Turbo, RX8, and currently a Legacy GTB Twin Turbo manual (280bhp from factory) And none of them are as fun as the EP3 (Type R) or R53 (Cooper S) I owned. The Cooper S had a simple intake, intercooler and reduced pulley, and it used to best my friends S2000 in the straights. Not bad for £500 worth of mods to a £2000 car....

To be honest, the next generation Fiesta can also reach weight below 1 tone after a little weight reduction (in fact versions with 1.25 and 1.4 litre engines are even lighter and they have already less than 1 tone, but they are hard to call a hothatch having at most 96HP)...anyway hot hatches are extremely good machines and in literally every competition I took part, the winners were hatches: in 2000cc group Fiesta Mk5 or Clio Sport, Civics were dominants in 1600cc series (of course all of them had B-series). Other cars like BMW's or Celicas weren't able to reach at least similar stage time as hatches. I tried couple of times to start in some rounds with a stock Mk6 Fiesta in 1400cc class...and to be honest if I managed to take 3rd place once and 1st twice racing with modded cars with rollcages, rally suspension and semislick tires, then I wonder, how fast I could be after stiffening suspension, reducing some weight and shortening the gears (cause the stock one sucks XD).
