I wish UNIDEN or Whistler would come out with a scanner that could double as an FRS/GMRS or MURS transceiver. This way, carry one radio for scanning and communicate with friends and family. I know we can already do this with Amateur Radios, but it's hard to find radios that have DMR and IDAS/NXDN receiving capabilities, especially for railfans. Not every Railfan is a licensed Amateur Radio Operator, although it would make finding a radio as I'm describing less complicated. Happy Thanksgiving Mr. Higgins!

Hey Johnathon I just caught your video on train scanner accessories and since I’m 77 years old and funds are limited I was thinking of getting a Baofung scanner and want to know if you have to use a computer to program it or can you just punch in the frequencies on the keypad. Thanks

buy at least triple your needs in rechargeable battery's. the ones in your scanner, and charging up in the charger. and a set in a case. this way you always have battery's ready. as they discharge far faster than charge up. this is per every portable radio and scanner. but yes if you dare plug up in your car/truck at every chance. but have a dedicated radio for use in said car/truck. ( antenna thing). some laugh at the fanny pack. but a bigger one worn on the front helps carry things like a scanner, can even cover over your safety device. i have a over one shoulder radio pack for my ham walkie. can also piggy back a scanner on it. just not much carry space for items.
