We live on the gulf coast so hurricanes are just a part of life. My husband works with a man from Canada who had never experienced a hurricane and his family was scared to death for him. We invited him to stay with us because his hotel didn’t have a way for him to cook, grocery stores and restaurants were closed. His first night with us we had Frito Pie, he had never had it before but he loved it.

Black refried beans are easy to make. I brown up an onion, add some crushed garlic, add one or two cans of black beans with the juice, you can add some taco seasoning if you like, let it simmer a few minutes more then mash up with the potato masher and simmer until you have the consistency you like. Done and yum. Just another option.

I often make chicken salads.I buy a roasted chicken,pull the meat off the bones.(Freeze the bones for both).One 5 dollar chicken makes several meals.From veggie salad to Alfredo.

My husband walked in and I said this is the queen of 5 dollar meals - lol you were singing - I said that’s not usual - I fried ground turkey last night and he was impressed - asked where I got the idea- I said Brooke - but the turkey is 1/3 the price of ground beef in my area of tennessee

Turkey is just more than double the price of beef where I live and I don't like it much, but if you add powered beef bouillon instead of salt it is much closer. going to try a meat loaf tonight, will be adding a LOT of other seasonings, and I guess I'll find out!

All turkey needs seasonings. Turkey meatloaf is great when mixed stuffing in it. When I make turkey burgers I add lots of seasonings PLUS sautéed peppers onion and shrooms. And poultry seasoning.

We have grilled chicken salad often. I put extra stuff like raisins, grated Parmesan cheese and chopped apples or blueberries or strawberries….SO GOOD! I love sheet pan roasted veggies and it’s a GREAT way to use up veggies.

Oh My Gosh! WoW, I’m a garlic lover. Always have been and always will be. BUT, an important thing to remember is 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder equals 1 clove of garlic. 1 Tablespoon-ish is 24 cloves of garlic.

Great video i love roasted vegetables 😋i i use to fix chili all the time my boys have always said mine is the best but i think it's because I'm their momma lol. I cant cook anymore or much of anything since becoming disabled so my grown son's will call me and still get directions on some of my dishes i think to make me feel better they are great son's with families of their own .
