When I was a kid in the 70s, we lived in Imperial Beach, which is about 15 minutes from the border. We would go to Tijuana every so often to shop and eat. It was fun. When my mom got cancer in the late 70s, she would go to Tijuana regularly for her chemo because it was insanely cheaper down there. Not one time did we EVER have any problems from anybody for any reason. Never. I don't know when tf they started kidnapping and killing tourists but it's sad to see. Tijuana used to be a fun day trip.
