6 Reasons to Visit Animal Kingdom Lodge

We LOVE staying here! There is so much to do around the resort. Two years ago, we took the free daily resort tour (it's called something like African Inspired, Disney Designed) led by a cultural representative. My (then) 12-year-old son and I were the only two who showed up that day. The tour is advertised as 30 minutes, but we ended up spending an hour because we were so intrigued by what we were learning. The tour teaches you about the cultural inspirations behind the design of the resort, as well as many of the artifacts that you mentioned in the video. We happened to take the tour on July 4th, so we also got to share some of our culture with the tour guide, who had asked us about the significance of July 4th in our country and what we were celebrating. To this day, we still talk about the tour and Lebo, our cultural representative from South Africa. She was the highlight of our vacation! Also, if you're a pin trader, don't miss King Pin at the gift shop in Jambo House! He's an "African king" who makes an appearance most afternoons. If you don't see anything you like on his lanyard, you can choose a random pin from his grab bag of pins. Each guest is limited to 2 pin trades per day. He's a fun character, and I've gotten some unique pins from him.

Another awesome video AJ.! And, just to add...the African art throughout the 2 buildings (Jambo and Kidani) comprises the largest display of African art anywhere in the world, outside of Africa. The Smithsonian has a larger collection, but at these 2 resorts, we see the largest displayed collection. It's amazing! And, you get go to the front desk and get a booklet about the art collection.

Part of the Smithsonian's collection is actually Disney's! (The art intended for the never-built Equatorial Africa pavilion at Epcot ended up in the National Museum of African Art in DC. It's one of my favorite places to go there, in part because the underground location means many tourists miss it entirely, so it's a place to go to escape the crowds.)

I love visiting here. My dh is a chef at Boma and helps with Mara and Jiko as well. He loves serving the guests there and he says it feels good to help them make memories. He even drives from Tampa everyday because he likes it so much. I'm sure he'll be delighted that everyone enjoys the food he helps make 💗

I feel like Animal Kingdom Lodge never gets talked about. Lots of folks are always talking about the Magic Kingdom resorts but AKL has soooo much to offer from the delicious delicacies, the brilliant, soft ambiance of the lobby at sunset, and can we please talk about the music?? If you ever get a chance, take a seat somewhere near the lobby. Either on the super comfortable couches or upstairs around the fire pit in the rockers and take a second and just listen. The music is absolutely beautiful and enchanting. I have most, if not all, of the songs on my iTunes and when I feel overwhelmed with life, I put that on and instantly relax.

Please a video on 1. what things are open at the hard ticketed events ? I mean like firework shows or rides or food location ( shortly is it okay to go to a after hour event rather than regular hours ??? And do something else in regular hour time ?) 2. But for a family with a somewhat picky-eater kid, this buffet is a lifesaver: it's got stuff she'll eat and somewhat adventurous dishes for the rest of us, and it's all good.)

We've stayed at AKL twice in the past year and I don't think we'll ever stay any where else we love it so much. Our first trip we had a DVC room and the second trip I just booked a regular view room and we were upgraded to a savanna view room. Nothing beats waking up in the morning, looking out your door and seeing the animals just a few feet away. The only downside is that AKL is quite a distance from all of the parks except, of course, AK. One tip if staying there, the Magic Kingdom bus is always crowded and it takes 20 min. to get of MK, so if you can afford it take the Minnie Vans back and forth to MK. The drivers are amazing and they have great stories to tell.

I’m DVC & this is my home resort. The Untamed Lunch at Sanaa is another great experience there & not too dear in terms of Disney pricing. You get a 4 course lunch with a Disney Animal Expert & then an animal encounter afterwards. It’s similar to the lunch with a Disney Imagineer experience.

I stayed here one time with my family and honestly it was wonderful. It had a rocky start because our room was not what we booked and my mother was very upset. I’m not one for complaining and going with the flow but she is not. My mother is 4’9” but can be very intimidating. So she “talked” to the employee and by that I mean she made him cry and we got an amazing room out of it and I apologized to the employee for her. But the view from the room was amazing and it was nice waking up to a giraffe in my face. The food was awesome and plenty of space to walk around. Would definitely stay again.

I never wanted to stay here because it was so far out but we ended up getting a great deal 2 years ago and I was converted! It's amazing! A new favorite of ours. I took my son to roast marshmallows (for free!) and a cast member was there telling all about the animals we were seeing as well. Fantastic.

If you’re not staying there make sure to head to Jambo House! The kidanni village is hard to navigate and is not quite as beautiful or grand as jambo. We really enjoy going to the pool bar for a drink and walking around to see the animals! The pool bar at Deluxe resorts like this will feature drinks with top shelf liquor, if you were staying in a value or moderate you won’t see that as much. But the drinks will still be about the same price ($10-12) but much better quality!

I've stayed at this lodge just about as many times I've been to Disney World, and I love just about everything about it! The Jungle Juice is probably number 1 on my families list when we stay, but the view, food, immersive decor and music are absolutely fantastic too. One down side is the hotel is further away from the parks than most of the others, so bus rides can often be lengthy.

Oh yes, AJ! Love it here. We stayed here a few years ago in a DVC 1-bedroom...while out on the balcony, I thought a young zebra had died in the savanna! Only to find out it was born just a few weeks before our trip...it was just resting and after a few minutes got back up! Whew! Love the night vision goggles and Boma, Sanaa and Jiko. Oh, and the bar leading down to Boma...Victoria Falls...always a must while waiting for our table at Boma!

We just stayed one night at Jamba House before our Disney cruise and it was amazing! We asked for an upgrade, like you suggested 😊, and we were given a DVC room with a sunset view! So many animals just right out from our balcony. This video makes me want to go and stay for longer, but it is usually out of our price range. Maybe someday 😁

ABSOLUTELY worth stopping by! My bf took me there for a Boma meal in May. We spent a few hours on site looking at the animals, we were given the materials to make smores and one of their open fire areas, took a stroll along the pool to see the flamingos as well. If you have young kids and being in a park is not an option for you every day, figure out how to get to AKL for an afternoon of fun and an evening meal. Very fun!

This was one of our favorite resort stays - the lobby and art throughout is amazing - the activites are awesome for kids and adults! The food is spectacular and as a Deluxe Resort, one of the less expensive!! One thing that was not mentioned are the rooms - Savannah view of not, they are really nicely decorated and very spacious!!

We just stayed there on our most recent trip and it was AMAZING!! We had a savanna view room with club level access, which was amazing because they had food from both the restaurants out all day. We had reservations at Boma our last day for breakfast and we had already tried so much of the food from the club level 😂 We also did the Starlight Safari, which was AMAZING! I would highly recommend it! I would love if you guys did a series on the club levels at the resorts! It would be an expensive research project, but as we’ve been researching the different club levels I haven’t found many recent reviews. Thanks for everything you guys do! 💖

I stayed at AKL once and loved it! It's off the beaten path but it was worth it! Highly recommended! My favorite restaurant by far there is Jiko's! Ate there several times and the food was fantastic each time! I ate breakfast at Boma but not dinner. Have never eaten at Sanaa or The Mara. Nor have I eat eaten a zebra dome! 😳😱 If you haven't talked about the Boardwalk and the surrounding area, please do! It's my favorite on Disney property! So close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I'm afraid when Galaxy's Edge opens it's going to be more difficult to score a room at any of the resorts there! 😬

I ate at Boma back in March. The soups were amazing, but I thought that the price was pretty steep. Most of the buffet food is really filling, so unless you are super hungry, you probably won't eat enough to justify the cost.

abby yes, it’s the pool at the jumbo house that will be down for refurbishment however there is another pool on property with a water slide that will be open to jumbo house guest. That means the village pool will be more crowded but we will still have access to a nice pool. I’m not sure if they will give jumbo house guest extra amenities for the trouble but we stayed at Coronado Springs last year while they were doing refurbishment and they gave us a few free fast passes and some “under construction” pins.

Greg MCFC Tip at table service restaurants. No tips required at counter/quick service locations. 20% is a good tip. In my city, tax is 9% so I just double the tax to figure the tip amount : )

I will be staying at the Kidani Village Villas in December this year. Looking foward to it, especially the animals! I wonder if the resort will still have some fun activities. Thus far I have only stayed at Coronado Springs and Pop Century. Any advice for staying at Kidani Village, I have heard it is a little farther from some places especially magic kingdom by the bus.
