I think the biggest factor making people leave is the horrible leadership and how common it is. If you’re going to work and hate your job everyday because of some turd above you that will affect your decision to reenlist the most. However, if you’re enjoying your work and get good satisfaction out of what you do you might think about sticking it out for the 20.

It’s almost as smart people are less likely to re-enlist…. Not always of course… you do see high performers once in a while that rank up fast and young… but if it wasn’t for time in service being a factor for ranking up many would be SOL as a 20 year E3 😂

I agree! At Ft Drum, the S-1 "turds", infantry put into the personnel office, not actual S-1 soldiers, would be very selfish. Not help anyone, kick people out of the office. And power trip. You had to get a pass, like in school, signed by the 1st Sgt! The 1st Sgt had better things to do. Do they apologize? No! Do the ask for forgiveness? No! Being a supply clerk, I refused to supply them. They can moan and groan. But you can't. Ft Drum S-1 run by an inbread, a midget, and Steve Urkels gay stunt double!

when i was in as enlisted in early 90's there were plenty of aholes of all ranks, walks of life, be it x gang bangers, to hick country boys, nothing worse than having a few NCOS that are aholes, and suffering from too many chiefs and not enough indians

I think at the end of the day they have to be selective because the job they’re applying for is a hard one. You have to prove that you’ll most likely be capable of the shit that’ll be expected of you because they dump a lot of money into each service member’s training and all that. If they weren’t selective about it, think about how many people would get injured and get processed out or how many people would straight up just quit. This already happens a ton with how selective they are now so it would just waste more money.

From an Army Veteran's perspective, the Army needs to focus on the quality of Recruits instead of the quantity of Recruits. That is what will improve the Army's discipline in the long run.

That's why I got chaptered out, I'm glad I got out of the ARMY during basic training, it wasn't worth it, I didn't care about my bonus, duty station, etc. I hated it....glad I got out and joining a different branch.

The Marine Corps has done a relatively good job of keeping its culture and traditions generally intact but the biggest problem that I saw was that no one wanted to reenlist because everyone felt like there was more opportunity in the civilian world. Even in total pog MOS’s it’s hard for a lot of folks to see long term career opportunities because of slow promotions, little opportunity for deployments or special training, and toxic leadership only looking out for themselves. Other branches do much better in these categories but have largely sacrificed their traditions and cultures in the process so I think it’d do well for them to go back to holding people to higher standards of discipline and not just assimilating with civilian culture the way they seem to now.

Or you can just do what the Air Force does and have little to no problem retaining people and attracting people. If your culture sucks, your chain of command sucks, and the opportunities aren’t worth while then nobody is going to want to stay or join besides people that feel that have no option. They’re basically scared dogs scared of the world. That’s bad. Start looking at what the Air Force is doing and that’ll help drastically.

@@NPCdeathMachine I'm a Marine vet and I have served on Air Force bases, and to be honest, I don't 100% agree with you on this. The mission and lifestyle of the Marines has to have a certain amount of Spartan edge to it. It maintains that combat ready attitude that we need since when the balloon goes up, we are the first ones out and upending our lives (no act of congress required). We have to have that get up and go heightened state of readiness. The Air Force is more relaxed. You need to be to handle your comparatively more cerebral and lower stress jobs. I'm not saying that hazing and 'wall to wall' counseling is always a necessary, but that tough as nails culture for Marines is there for a reason. Scaling it back, for the softer generation, I think in some ways is necessary. But abandoning it is a bad idea. I've seen it personally as an air winger.

I served my country for almost 22 years in both the US Army and USMC. I had multiple combat tours to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other parts of the middle east and Africa. I retired as a Cavalry Scout platoon Sergeant (SFC). I have told my son and any young person that asks me to never, never, never join the US Military. The reasons are simple. Military Leadership, at the command levels, is absolutely horrific, the politicians that vote to send you over seas dont give a damn about the constitution, the courts have shredded our constitution to the point that its almost irrelevant, the government will lie to you, the military does not train true warriors anymore, and the list goes on and on. I will never, never, never tell anyone that they should join the military. The cost to benefit ratio, no im not talking about pqid benefits, is just too damn high.

From basic training all the way through professional leadership courses that focuses on military tradition, war fighting skills, accountability, and true leadership. That list can be endless. They also have to stop taking valuable field training time away from the soldiers in favor of woke policy power point classes. At one time we held our senior military Leadership accountable when incidents or mishaps occurred. We've stopped doing that. Our Senior Leaders must be held to the same accountability standard, and higher standards, as our lower ranking enlisted and officer personnel are. The military also must get out of the business of appeasement in politics. Politics has absolutely no place in the US Military. We need to go back to uniform and appearance standards when it comes to the field uniform and over weight troops. Etiquette standards also need to be reintroduced. I know that sounds like petty things but all of those things add up to discipline and good order. Those two things are the life blood of the US Military. Also in order to even make Colonel you should have Combat Command experience. We should also bar Senior Leaders that have direct authority over contracts, research, and development from being able to work for any Government Contractor within five years after leaving service. These are just a few of the things that need to change. There are many more. This is a rot that has touched every piece of the military.

I agree with what you say! At Ft Drum there was alot of "do as I say, not as I do!" If an officer or Sgt has marital problems, they lash out. Why not preach and teach the standard, from day one? Not have "flexible" standards.

I think you’re right. Why should a young man serve a corrupt form of government. It’s only going to get worse. There was a time when serving the United States meant something. There was a time when it was a highly honorable thing to do to serve your country. Today, people have zero respect for politicians and the way they mismanage the country. It’s a shame but we are in a very dark period. They say all empires come to an end due to imploding from within. It took Rome thousands of years. It won’t take more than another 20 years tops for the end to come, it’s happening now. But, maybe that’s a good thing. Why would anyone want to put their life on the line for Nancy Pelosi or the Washington crowd? So, I agree 100% with you. I don’t advocate helping to destroy the country. Just let it crumble and worry about what is important to you, your family and your well-being. Btw, thank you for your service and your honest opinion. Many military people that have previously served feel the same way. If things change and people start having a sense of morals and live ethically, which I doubt, then I could see a person willing to serve, but not this politically woke farce.

I wanted to serve so badly. Made a couple mistakes at 13 but I was told due to the original arrest charges being a lot I wasn’t allowed even tho I showed the disposition. I made changes such as getting my ged at 16(didn’t know it would look bad because In civilian work it’s a good look because I went to college early)attending college and about to graduate with my degree at 19/20. My asvab was about 66 and It sucks I can’t serve my beautiful country however I can’t sit and cry about not being a soldier. I’m going to France to join the French foreign legion and after 5 years I plan on trying to join the gign. The US is amazing and beautiful and my mistakes I own up to them however, if I’m only viewed as a criminal by the us and can’t redeem my actions I might as well just become one smh. It’s a joke but you get what I mean. France will give me the chance and I’m looking forward to risking my life for a nation that will give me the opportunity.

@@sdot266 I was adjudicated a delinquent which unfortunately decided I should take the plead deal since I grew up poor with no lawyer. I was struck by another student and we fought but due to me being a angry kid I wanted to continue. However that made me the aggressor and then when the cop tried tackling me I slapped his hand out the way as well as my teacher because I was asking why am I getting introuble when defending myself. Just the hand and I got charged with battery on eod and battery on school personal. I made the mistake however I was devistated when told I could not join but on to moving forward.

I’m also thinking of joining the military in my country (Sweden) as a soon to be 20 year old (December). 1 year of high school left. But I also have always have the thinking and idea of becoming a swat member in the police since being a young kid 😁

You are right about the word of mouth piece for sure. I did 6 years in the Army from 05 to 11, and I would not tell my son to join the Army for any reason. It was not all a negative experience, but when you look at the toxic leadership, the messed up promotion system, the out of control sexual harrasment/assault, the extremely high optempo and the terrible VA system... I think I would tell my son to take his chances in the civilian world.

Seeing the mistreatment of my brother I’m glad I didn’t join. He went in, served 6 years active as a 68W and got wrecked due to the physical demands of the job, came back home with zero job prospects and 80% disabled, of which the disability alone can’t sustain him in this broken economy. Hearing from a lot of service members that will parrot a similar experiences or how the VA just sucked… who would want to go into that? So yeah it’s not a surprise that the recruiters aren’t making their mission year after year. There’s also a lot of other reasons to not join that in my mind vastly outweigh any benefits. Currently our country is incredibly divided, so if you feel like the government doesn’t have your best interests at heart then I can see why people wouldn’t want to then join.

Son is 23, he’s currently at tech training. There were almost 500 graduating with him, Air Force. Yes, there’s less people joining but they’re still joining just hard to get in on some of the branches. Also, he was the last one being recruited by the recruiter he had (yes was redundant). I’m happy for him and he’s happy on his decision.

@taylorrowe2002 not blaming anyone here. It’s too bad that you can’t waiver something like that, but it sounds that in your case might be a life or death situation a nut allergy. And tattoos don’t help either on that decision for the branches (I’m not against them I do love tattoos), but now they’re making exceptions even for that because of low recruitment. And I admit it he took the asvab twice so he really wanted to join. He studied hard getting tutoring at his college, and on top of that he was finishing his semester before going to BMT. He hard work paid off.

The major issue I saw while in the Army, was why limit soldiers to 8 years as lower enlisted? What is so inherently wrong with being good and proficient at your job? IMO, toxic leadership really stems from people that never should have been placed in leadership roles in the first place

You make a good point. Before 1984 the Army allowed lower ranks to serve for much longer and they also had non-NCO pay grades for technical MOS’s so it was common to see a SPC5 or SPC6 which was the same as E-5 and E-6 but they didn’t have the same responsibilities as an NCO. It’s possible that rank structure may be used again as the Army looks for ways to keep the positions filled with good people for longer terms.

So I'll talk about the reasons I left the Canadian Military. For the longest time I felt shame, I had desperately wanted to be in the armed forces because I love military tech/geopolitics , I wanted to serve abroad/have an adventure, creating comradery, and I had 0 clue what i was going to do out of school. I ended up not even going through basic training. At the time I had a lot on my plate with University, part time job and military so I cut the military out. So for a long time I felt like I coward out and part of me really wanted to go back. But I slowly changed my perception on the matter over time. So fear of death/dismemberment/life altering injuries is an obvious 1st reason, but I think the fear is more towards dying for no real reason and sure we're 100 years removed from World War One run into machine guns, but we're not so far removed from Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, wars that in my opinion, should not have happened in the first place and were a loss of life for little to no gain. Then it comes to what exactly am I fighting for? Protecting Canada and its citizens? No one is really threatening us nowadays and those that are either have extensive nuclear armaments or are Islamic extremist that live half way across the world, and its extremists our leaders helped create by sending over the military in the first place. So then that brings us to leaders and the question of are you really wanting to die just because some high ranking people tell you to go somewhere, despite them lying to you e.g. "weapons of mass destruction" or assuming on the off chance that they aren't lying (which is highly unlikely considering all the other unnamed lies that aren't even related to the military that they already peddle/cover up e.g. BLM riots was a "peaceful protest"), that they send you to die for a conflict that they are utterly detached from? Add on to those questions the utter state of western culture where traditional families and children are looked down upon, rampant abortions, hook up / open relationships, the very little pay in the military, the inflation, the persistant online/social media attack on "white, european, american, male" culture or even overtly with destruction of statues, churches, unchecked illegal immigration to replace failing birth rates, the CONSOOOMMM mentality where people define themselves through movies, video games ficntional characters, or even the objects they own in their home instead of our fore fathers, national heroes, great men, great deeds, architectural feats, a unifying myth or epic or justified war etc. All of this and much more makes me question, do I even WANT to protect our current country and culture? Ok it's not EVERYONE that is "woke" for lack of a better term but our leaders in charge now are all part of this "woke" culture that has permeated at every level of our societies. Would I really want to throw my life for our current culture and values of hedonism, selfloathing and anti-freedom (Covid lockdowns/corporate wage slaves i.e. working endless hours for very little benefits and a salary that doesn't adjust to inflation and with no propect of retirement or raising a family)? TLDR Why fight and die for a country that is slowly declining in population and culture and who's leaders don't give 2 shits about you?

I don't disagree with anything you just said, and a lot of it is identical to why I have refrained from joining as well. But off purely selfish reasons, there's there is redeeming value in joining. There's trades you can learn, there's a golden star that you can put on a resume & call yourself a veteran (which helps employers save money on taxes for hiring you), and you can make friends in it. You can honestly transform your service from serving a bunch of bureaucrats to serving with people you care about and lifelong contacts you'll maintain.

Both great MOS's.....35T would be better and more transferrable. I joined at 25. First lesson, you are far far far away from the flexibility and recovery you possessed at 18. You will quickly see this bare out when comparing yourself to dozens of 18-20 year olds. Second, you will be much more mature than most recruits until you get to your permanent duty station. Last, look for something that you can transition into civilian occupation. 35T gives you a mix of IT and Intelligence , so it's a good mix....37F would be better if you're looking at becoming an agent for one of the alphabet agencies down the road, including the State Department. But you need to be in excellent shape before basic. Why? You just won't have the time between basic and Psyops Selection and Assessment to meet the physical standards without injury. Not that being in excellent shape doesn't help in any case, but more so when joining a specific unit like that.

Bottom line, 4 years serving, especially if you get even just a secret clearance, keeping out of trouble, be smart with your money and save, getting out one and done can set you up for a pretty good middle class life much quicker and better than a shitty Amazon or UPS warehouse job. Yes, there are parts of it that are ass and it sucks some days, but if you can make it through and make the most out of your time in, the payoff will be worth your while

Gen Z here. Joined in 2017 wanting to make the army a career. Fast forward a couple years and I couldnt wait to get out. The army is absolutely misersble. I was an 11b (infantryman) and that translated to professional janitor. Im out now and going to university full time. Im also a EMT and arguably get more "action" than I would have ever gotten in the military.

From what I know, the Marine Corps is having the most success recruiting, just reaching its FY recruiting goal. I believe it’s partly due to the culture there just barely clinging on to that hooah mentality. This is something all the other branches have sadly already lost. Personally, I find it that is no more pride in what we do in the military. Moral is at an all time low, despite getting treated better than 10-20 years ago. In recent times, we’ve been sent on wars that frankly cause more destruction than good, ultimately filling the pockets of mega defense corporations. All of this at the expense of young American lives. I do think the Army is moving in the right direction in regards to many things such as moving away from the Vietnam era hazing type culture. We need to follow leaders based off of respect, not simply authority. (In other words, leaders who lead, not tell you what to do!) We are ultimately here to fight wars, not to cater to someone’s “identity” or feelings. The solution is also easier than it might seem. I think you make up great points in your video and definitely think the DoD could take some notes!

Been in the process due to medical process to join the Air Force for 9 months. I sat and waited because I wanted to join badly. With the federal government's preference for hiring veterans and contracting with veteran-owned companies, along with the in-service training and GI Bill for college that get you across the doorstep and into some other careers... yes, you pretty much do get richer than you could otherwise have hoped to, by joining the military. It's the only escape from our national poverty trap that I ever came across. It's about getting your foot in the door with the over-all military industrial complex which dominates the economy. One thing to keep in mind though, the only thing recruiters can help you with is actually joining. They don't have honest answers about anything. If you want to know something, you have to talk to other people who have actually served.

I served for 6 years, in my contract I had SLRP (student loan repayment program) & it was very very difficult to to get signed up to receive the funds EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN MY CONTRACT. So now I have over $20k in student loans that I have to pay for because to military failed to honor the contract. These are the type of reasons that soldiers are not re-enlisting into the military.

US Army 19D 2008-2011; deployed to Iraq in 2009. I would never advise for a person to enlist, especially not now. There is NO conflict you're going to be apart of where you're actually defending your home, your family, and the USA itself. We were basically glorified mercenaries who fought on behalf of foreign and corporate interests. To these people at the top, the soldier, sailor, marines, and airmen are expendable meat-bags. Never put your life on the line for people who would never do the same for you, and never fight because someone told you to do so. The leadership of the military is shit and the long-term operations they engage in is shit. The only thing holding our military together is the NCO's. One of the best things i ever done joining the AF. 4 years in the Philippines, 4 years in Korea. I have 2 sons who i raised as a single parent. My youngest son is in the AF. Started out as a AB, now he's a Capt with over 15 years in. Military life is not for everyone. Getting up everyday and being on time for work isn't for everyone either. Military life was easy for me. If you go in at 18 you could be done by 38 in time to do other things.

I’m an Air Force vet, did 15 years. Every year the DoD came out with another hoop to jump through to stay in. In 2014 they kicked out a shit ton of people. I got forced out for HYT in 2018. I would have retired this March. You think you can piss that many people off and they’ll want their children to enlist? Having family in the military is the greatest recruitment tool there is. Personally, I think we are in a position technologically where we can pull everybody back from overseas and simply defend our own land. We could cut the defense budget by 80% and save hundreds of billions of dollars.

Here is my opposition to joining, the pay is awful. The benefits i can see are great but its a benefit and not actual dollars in your pocket. Here is what they should do, ive seen the pay scale, it is ok, pay needs to increase substantially, +20%, and allow people to quit and put in a 2 week notice. Ive also seen somewhere where a manager cannot be fired without a year's worth of paperwork. so make it easier to fire people who are managers b/c if I had a manager tell me to tell me F this or F That and screaming at me or talking down to me so if you had better management people would join. The culture of treating people like garbage is a deterrent.

I joined in 2018 at the age of 26 for the GI Bill. My experience was absolute hell. As soon as I got to Reception, I knew I had fucked up, and I wanted to go home. But I didn't because I come from a Military family and didn't want to be made fun of. I picked Fueler because it was the shortest contract. Fueler is usually filled with young kids who were suckered in by their recruiter because they had low test scores. I didn't have low test scores. I picked Fueler because it was a 3-and-a-half-year contract with a 20k bonus. I was a great student in College. I managed to get accepted as a transfer student in UCLA, UCI, and UC Berkeley Registered Nursing programs (Nursing programs are impossible to get into in California). I managed to get into some State schools as well. I would be taking out loans because I needed to live in dorms as the programs I entered were not close to home. The military is not the only stepping stone. But the VA is going to be giving me disability checks for life. I get the GI Bill and the VR&E, which is two GI Bills. I hate the Army, but the benefits after are freaking sweet.

Gen Z here who's going through the OCS application process rn: I've spoken to a lot of friends who are 1st LTs and a lot of family friends who are Colonels and Generals. Some of the big concerns I've heard is you won't be rich, the current leadership is incompetent, retirement/bonuses not as good as they use to be, and wokeness is a major issue especially if you branch a non-combat arms MOS. Some of the guys I've spoken with such as 1st LT and a scrolled Ranger both cited wokeness as their #1 reason for not renewing contracts along with the Army being in full peace time mode. Still joining (don't need the money its for the experience and training) and hopefully the Army rediscovers its identity.

Went to Army OCS in 2012. Everything you say is true. Also we were used as janitors and landscapers at hhc for months. Had my commission stolen a few weeks before graduation because of over recruitment. Long story... OCS is a game of going at the right time. Get a direct commission and avoid OCS if they are washing out tons of people otherwise you will find yourself as a laundry specialist enlisted like my friend when they wrote down on the wromg number on his final PT test. I wised up and found a legal loophole to get out. Trust me you don't want that.

It comes with a sense of understanding and humbleness and also just dealing with shit. There are terrible quality places in the military and I just deal with it and it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s all in your head in reality. Learning to deal with shit helps you mature and grow as a person. You can’t come in with a spoiled entitled mentality. Joining the military is a good way to mature and become a better person, but that comes with you putting in the effort to change and be different. From age ranges 18-26 when your brain is still developing. I see the military as developing your brain significantly higher. It comes with failure and being called a failure so you can learn and become a better person when you leave the military.

Got out in April after 8 years. I would say if yall really thinking about joining, wpuld seriously do some research and ask people in. Was a Supply NCO. Pay/Benefits are good but when you mix that with the fact its not a 9-5 (and can be called 24/7 sometimes weekends) and be expected to perform. Family is preached about being important but Misson will ALWAYS come first dont matter peoples circumstances. Dont even want to talk about the mental assistance. Had a BH therapist who refused to see me while she was on emergency room detail meanwhile a reseve MSG (also attached to my unit) was able to get to chat with her. I was really messed up in head and already had to wait 2 months for the appointments unless you say your suicidal. Showed up late to formation by 2 minutes (due to various life reason) lost half my paycheck for 2 months. Was told i needed to be an example for others to a broken pt on your own, in the gym meet-up. They dont take soldiers serious in that i have live a jacked up life before i joined. I did not join to be treated like a child in some aspects (micromanged sections) then handed a fully loaded M4 to guard a disarmed armory. If it was a normal job would have quit right there. The reasons i can give are endless. The Army is not for everyone and even now more so then ever. My ex wife also joined during my last 2 years and she cheated on me with married 18year and got pregnant in AIT. The Army did investigation so i can get results to court. However the couldnt find anything (apparently while she is ballooning like a whale) she placed child on my SGLI so thats how i knew she had a child and the time frame. But if i could say one positive, you will met very few people who are genuinely good people. During the time i was going through these issues. A SFC and his wife used to make me food and drive it to my house and man i will never forget that SFC, (Now a 1SG!!!). Im all over the place but seen it all in those 8years. Everything but real combat :/ Now i am married live on Europe and have a job/ part study as a Mechanical Engineer creating Analyzers. I'm going to break it down from my perspective into (2) parts. From a Veteran Perspective (USN: 2013-2017 [Active Duty] & 2017-2021 [IRR]). 6 Reasons Not to Join: 1.) Military Life is a tough life. Period. 2.) If you are not prepared to risk your life or take a life then don't join. (The bullets, missiles, rockets, guns, tanks, ships and planes are not their for show and tell. If you aren't using the war machine then you are supporting/maintaining the war machine. You are an accomplice.) 3.) There's more opportunity now than there was in the past. (I joined during the Recession 2008-2013.) 4.) You aren't guaranteed to make it to a career. (Always at-will. You can get discharged for any stupid reason.) 5.) You are going to work with a lot of difficult personalties everyday. 6.) Toxic leadership. 6 Reasons to Join: 1.) Post 9/11 G.I Bill. (College paid for. No debt. Pay you to go to school. Huge deal. A lot of people are in college debt. Many will never pay off that college debt. Facts.) 2.) VA Home Loan (No down payment. You can own up to 2 properties at once. Low interest rate. Easier to qualify.) 3.) Federal/State Career Benefits. (I work for the Federal Government and your military time counts towards your retirement. Did 4 years. Just need to do 26 years to get full 30 year pension. I'll be retired by 58 years old. Paid for life. Same as the military pension plan.) 4.) You meet good friends for life and travel to cool places. 5.) You build good habits. (Ex. Structure, Discipline, Good Planning, Good Nutrition/Fitness, Attention to Detail [I dress better. Good eye for fashion/decoration.], Learn to Fight/Survive, etc.) 6.) Greater appreciation for the nation that you live in. (Many people take their freedoms for granted.) I don't regret joining and to me it made me a better person than I was in the past. :)

The military pretty much sucks. I was an airborne infantryman for several years and was honorably discharged. I can say it was one of the least satisfying and most demeaning experiences of my life. Rewards such as promotions and medals aren't given based on experience or performance, but according to gender and how good one is at making others look good. I earned a perfect PT (fitness test) score the whole time I was in. I was The soldier of the quarter for the entire U.S. Army Europe. I had combat deployments. People in my chain of command held these things against me and I wasn't the only one. Thjere's a reason why so few people reenlist. When I first joined the food was ok, but then they turned it into Macdonand's. The whole environment became toxic with everyone afraid to speak any kind of truth for fear of offending someone and having their career destroyed. They often punish you emotionally and physically just because they don't like you personally. There is no trust. No cameradery, no honor. To put it more clearly, It sucks in pretty much every way. DON'T DO IT!!!

I have another reason: No more legacies. I served for 20 years but I would NOT allow my grandson to enlist. I would do everything in my power to dissuade him from that. And according to the Epoch Times, 50% of legacy members are doing the same thing.

Alot of people are afraid to join because America is always in some form of conflict with other countries. Alot veterans said that the Afghanistan And Iraq war was unnecessary. Alot of good American lost their lives and body parts while Generals and politician's are have a merry time. Alot of Vets are homeless as well.

I was thinking of training for and applying to the royal marines as an officer, but the main reason why I decided against it is I have absolutely no love for my government or the country I live in. I would've been able to overlook the poor pay and prospects, even the danger, but knowing that ultimately I would be fighting to protect a government and rulers that are ripping apart my country and everything it stands for was enough to make me think that maybe my efforts would be best spend elsewhere.

I like your video but you overlooked the elephant in the room. Gen Z is hip to the fact the military is corporate security service. I’m a millennial, 35, over the hill for most branches but I’m in better shape (running swimming pull ups wise) than any of the 20 year olds I work with. They are not mentally or physically fit for the military but more importantly they’re not interested. I don’t blame them, 18 y/o me would have been a great candidate, 35 y/o me understands you’re working for the complex and fighting for greed and imperial aims. Thanks to the internet the younger generation is savvy to that fact. Not saying not to join. Just saying you have to look at risk vs reward. They will use you up and spit you out so you need to look at what you can get out of the system. The US is the greatest country in the world, unfortunately the US military works for someone else.

You are not wrong, but I don’t see why you need to be in peak physical condition to do half the jobs in the military. No, you shouldn’t be allowed to join if you are a blob, but allow some leeway for people that just want to do noncombat MOSs. Personally, my experience dealing with a recruiter turned me off of the process. Dude was DUMB. maybe offer better pay/incentives to get the top candidates to go into recruitment

One huge factor that causes most to be ineligible is this justice system that messes people's record up. Even for people like me who have never resulted to violence or done any bad in our lives. I ended up with a Domestic Violence record over dating the wrong abusive woman. This woman is my baby mama and she would result in the one record that defeats all my chances of ever joining any military for the rest of my life. Not only that this happened when I barely turned 18 years old. My plan had always been to join the Marine Corps, and especially when my son was born and I wanted to be the man he needed to raise him right. I didn't grow up with my father because he was wrongfully convicted of a murder which even the victims family denied it was my father, but yet the judge still declared my father guilty. And because of that I've always visited him in jail and prison. I never wanted to end up there, especially because my dad is a very good man. He's taught me to stay away from drugs if I don't need it, stay away from alcohol and bad friends. I did just that. Not because of him entirely but rather because I myself don't like drugs or alcohol. I'm sure we all have some bad friends everywhere. But this all comes back to me and my baby mama. When I was told by a social worker to report my baby mama to the police. I took their advice and did just that. Expecting justice to be served, as any victim would see it. Instead I was the primary suspect since they got there. My baby mama made it seem as though I tried to rape her. She lied and said her hitting me was in self defense, when in reality I was the one who had to defend myself from getting my eye gouged out. Also from getting stabbed. Did the police care though about my statement? No they didn't. Instead I got taken into custody and had to await my arraignment in court which was the worst night of my life being in jail as a victim. I couldn't believe what was going on. My family didn't care and didn't try to help me at all. Instead they all knew about my baby mama but didn't get me a lawyer. Which it turns out any lawyer would've made sure I would've never had this record and my baby mama would've been in jail for certain. Now I have a domestic violence record, I'm 21 and still can't get a good job anywhere because of it. I'm trying to scrape together 3k to pay for a pardon, and no I'm not asking for money, I'm working for it. So don't think I'm asking for anything, please. My goal is to eventually join the military and be a marine or join the air force. I know so much about the military and have so many skills that I know I would be useful in there. I just hope things work out because I have two kids I want to be a good role model for them. As you can imagine till this day I'm still getting the worst type of behavior out my baby mama, and obviously no one cares about it because the system makes every male look like a evil monster. I also want to post videos online but it's hard to post when nothing positive in my life has come up. And that's what I want to share with my subscribers the most. That waiting process is a bit of a buzzkill but the biggest has got to be the fear of facing war/possibly dying but… we’re not at war… 😅 it should be healthy food for thought that you’re time is valuable but there is still A LOT to gain while there’s NO WAR CURRENTLY!! If kids take full advantage of the opportunities presented then you’ll get a return equal to what they’re putting you through. And the wokeness can be altered by your own decisions and choices; idc what people say, I won’t be bullied into conforming to political correctness or whatever. I’m going for SF and I will do some schoolwork along side and I’ll be taking advantage of all opportunities that will give me what I want… all while still loving my country. I joined the army in 1988. Back then jobs were hard to come by and most people joined because we could not find a job. Today jobs are more plenty and like you said they offer benefits that rival the military

@@alchemicalsoul Joining for the benefits is outdated because companies such as Walmart, Publix, McDonalds etc have tuition reimbursement for college, trade school etc. At that point the GI bill isn't worth the minimum 4 years of hardship. But health benefits such as free healthcare/VA loan (and possibility VA disability if your lucky) could be worth it for some.

As a millennial and an army vet. Joined in 2014 and go out in 2018. I don’t care about all the BS going on in the army. YES I had horrible experiences in the army and YEA I had GREAT experiences. But that’s what happens in the military . Not everything is gonna be fine and dandy & I just looked at it as my sacrifice for my country suck it up & move on soldier. Because once you get out if you did your due diligence in documenting your injuries (physical & mental) & use your post 9/11 G.I Bill. You really CANNOT go wrong in the civilian world after that. Also to be honest life in the civi world is harder than the military. Civilians are out only for them selves, there’s no bond/brotherhood . I think the military was a piece of cake somewhat & the civilian world does kinda suck ass LOL. Anyways if you’re thinking about joining the military I say go find out for yourself don’t let KZbinrs or others with good/bad experiences make the decision for you. Unless you’re a female. hey Aaron I've recently bee watching a ton of your videos and after researching the army and watching you talk about your experiences and what actually goes on in the army i now want to apply but i am still too young but id like to start training and getting ready for when it comes, so i would like to know if you trained before basic training and if you did, what did you do to be ready for it, i would also like to know your schedule for going to the gym and working out as well as the things you do at the gym so i could become ready for the army. I’m a retired Army Infantryman and my advice is to just not get fat and do some sort of exercise to keep your muscles in good shape, even riding a bicycle for a few miles a day is a good thing. The biggest problem with young people joining the Army is that they’re very sedentary because they sit around playing video games and don’t participate in school sports. When you’re about 16 years old, go in to any Army Recruiting station and ask to speak with a recruiter to review your medical history and see what you’re qualified for and from there they can let you know things you can do to be better prepared. A lot of recruiting stations have PT programs to help new recruits prepare themselves so basic training is a lot easier. They’ll give you a short test to take, this will show what jobs you’ll be able to choose from or if you need to work on a specific area to improve your scores for a job you’d prefer. All those reasons you mention except 1 has been an issues since the beginning of time. You said you've been in for 4 years. Not sure of your MOS, but would you like to be in a company where over 50% of the soldier were way overweight? Seriously, 77% of youth today is overweight. Being FAT and in the military just doesn't work. The only thing you mention that wasn't an issue is WOKE. If they had that shit when I was in, I would have absolutely refused to attend any Inclusion, Diversity, Equality training. I've also heard some units were forced to go to drag shows. That's total bullshit. In America, the military were the first to integrate. It took a while, but during my time, I didn't give a shit about your color, everyone was OD Green. You had my back and I had yours. Today's military leadership is all political, not military. They know nothing about small unit leadership. It's about the SFC and his platoon, not some 4 star general who works in Washington DC, and the same for the Sgt Major of the Army. So political and so removed from the everyday life of a soldier, they come up with BS crap to feed the soldiers. It's never going to get better. I would have never done a 20 year career if I had to put up with the bullshit a soldier does today. I served in Vietnam, then deployed to Operation Urgent Fury in Granada, and my last combat tour was Desert Shield/Storm. Retired right after that.
