One of the most hurtful things I’ve experienced as an introvert is the feeling that no matter where I am or who I’m with, I have to prove to people that I’m worth their time. I'm in my 50s. As a child I was all these things as described in your video. I was labelled even by my family as being a black sheep. My dad especially thought my introvert traits were nothing more than me rebelling, doing them purposely to get at him. Funny thing, in my 30s when I went online I was able to learn that I wasn't defective that I was an introvert. Since then I've learned a lot and have been better able to manage in the world. It's great knowing that those labels I had growing up as being defective weren't true and that there are others much like me. It has given me confidence.

Same experience here. My mother, the only extrovert out of the 4 of us, took a particular disliking to me ever since I was a very little kid because, unlike my sister, who turned out to be a "social introvert" (her mbti, INFJ, is famously known as a "social chameleon," so she came across as an extrovert; now, her energy levels are actually a lot lower than mine), and, unlike my dad (enneagram 9 ISTP), who would reluctantly go along with what my mother wanted, my introversion was a lot more obvious. According to her, I was always fussy and didn't get along with other kids in my age group, preferring to play or work by myself, or got along better with much older kids and old people. Given that a majority of people are extroverted, like her (ESTJ), especially children, she's never seen a kid like me so thought there was something "abnormal" or "slow" about me, and scheduled play-dates to force me to socializing with other children, which only proved counter-productive (being an enneagram cp6). I guess from her point of view, my introversion caused her significant embarrassment because I probably came across as "rude" to the other parents, so spent my entire childhood trying to force me to change. But kids don't appreciate being forced to change (and people CAN'T change, anyway. Speaking from a lifetime of experiences trying to re-invent myself, as well as the fact that my mbti type/enneagram remains consistent). I've never fit in with other people, no matter how much I'd tried, even when I was actually quite social in my late-teens/early-20s, nothing could change the fact that I was just a loner by nature; even in my family, I've always felt like a black sheep. That "wall separating" me from the rest of humanity part is 100% relatable. Until I took mbti tests (albeit out of curiosity), I've never known why, and was always thought of by others that there was something "wrong" or "abnormal" about me, but, turns out, I'm just an introvert and independent-minded (INTP).

I agree with this! Growing up, I was always very shy and didn't make friends easily. I enjoyed staying home by myself, and never felt the need to insert myself into social situations with other kids my age. My sister always made fun of me for having no friends, because she was an extroverted social butterfly who became friends with every person she ever met! When I met my best friend, we immediately hit it off and have had a deep meaningful relationship for twenty years. My sister, who has thousands of friends on Facebook, has never really had any close friends or a best friend. She claims to be very popular, but I've seen a lot of her friendships come and go very quickly. They're all very shallow, and I think she spends a lot of her time feeling lonely... that is until she goes out and makes a dozen new friends on any given weekend!

Practice helps with that. And conscious breathing and thinking of something nice and calming. But what helps best is to not judge yourself as your voice shakes. A shaking voice makes you no lesser person. If you can manage to embrace your "downsides" you might find they disappear or stop to matter. If it's something that can't be helped at the moment then why not take it with a grain of salt instead. 💚 Actually, let me tell you a secret. People who come to adore your shaky self are quite likely long-lasting good relationship material 😉 It's like a filter against shallow people!

I like my family and friends time but I also like coming home being alone in my own space relaxing. Best part of my day is coming home to my own space.
@IKARIANOFFICIAL11 ай бұрын
@@ryans413 - I think of it this way: As introverts we don't need to feed off of others in order to feel good. For us it's the opposite. We have the power to simply feel good on our own. Almost as if we are more complete in a certain way. We are also more sensitive to the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine compared to extroverts. This chemical makes us feel good when we turn inward. We also store information in different parts of our brain than extroverts, favoring the parasympathetic side of our nervous system which is associated with relaxation and focus. So we're typically going to enjoy going deeper subjects than most extroverts. Of course extroverts can enjoy those deeper subjects too, usually less commonly though.
@ryans41311 ай бұрын
@@IKARIANOFFICIAL as soon as I get home I can feel it I start to feel more happy I get an energy boost I’m more relaxed and I entertain myself very well. When I go to family’s houses especially if I’m staying over for a long time I feel my energy drain even if I’m enjoying myself I have to get a way. I feel like this in the grocery stores too that’s why when I shop I do it as fast as I can because just all the people being around me drains me. I can definitely relate to that. All my teenage years i was kind of forced to go out basically all weekend when all i wanted to do was staying alone in my room. It was such a huge struggle that i could never win, b/c everything other then going out to party was considered to be weird. I hated it AND worst of all, it was such a waste of my precious time. When i moved out for many years i was asked each weekend on the phone by my parents "so what did you do/have you planned" and i would just say "nothing" and lived with the fact that i knew it made them deeply worry for nothing. I know they worried about me, but it was just not what I wanted. Wish i would have already done this in my teenage year. I was so creative at that time and could have done so many other things instead of "being alone and bored in the middle of a party" just to be able to say "yes i was at a party". Boah, did i hate it. And it only stopped when i got marry and now my husband and i together do nothing/things by ourselves at the weekend. Somehow that is better accepted.

when you’re an introvert it’s good to learn that if people ignore you, you can ignore them back, give them a taste of their own medicine. the real champs are the ones who ask you “what were you saying again?”. also if you haven’t already mastered this i recommend learning to be comfortable in uncomfortable silence, it’s where we like to be, in our quiet place. if you’re feeling awkward so are they, so it’s just easier to be cool with it

@@yourince7573 no one gets along with everyone, you don’t have to make everyone think you’re a good person. The ones that get to know you are the ones for you, if they just turn away at a first impression they can be ignorant, oblivious, just plain stupid or full of themselves (of course this isn’t always the case). I’ve found that a lot of people that walked in the opposite direction to me befriended my friends and i get to hear from my friends how that person was basically just looking for someone to do all their work. So, people thinking bad about you isn’t the worst thing, as long as you know where you are and you’re ready for self improvement if it gets out of hand (no one ever approaches you).

In 7th grade I figured out I was going to constantly overlooked if I didn’t force myself to step forward. I listened carefully to learn how conversations worked and safe subjects I could bring up. Started taking all the speech and drama classes offered. Continued it through high school and college (small, local places). At work I forced myself to volunteer for groups and speaking assignments. It was literally H3LL! Probably a large part of why I have no colon today. It never became easier, but I learned I could do it, even if it meant sleepless nights and having a bathroom close-by. It was more satisfying than doing all the work and then having some uninvolved extrovert present my work badly. Happily retired now, staying at home away from everything and most everyone (few close friends, also introverts). A friend sent me this note: Introverts unite / separately / in your own homes. That’s how we roll!
