We worked out of one of the co-ops in Medford, but finding parking was arduous due to the time enforcement. Additionally, I saw people who would just pass out in front of the co-op. We finally gave up and went to the Ashland co-op instead. I think I just got a speeding ticket when I was going 30, and there's a camera light. Basically, if you're a homeless drug user or a hardened criminal, the city welcomes you with open arms, feeds you, and lets you get away with anything. If you're an entrepeneur or work in tech, then the city nickels and dimes you and penalizes you to make its blood money. We kept coming back because my wife has a daughter who lives on the outskirts of Medford with her firefighter husband. But I've vowed to never return to the Bellflower of Oregon.
@rockwellrealestate Жыл бұрын
That's too bad you felt that way. Getting that camera ticket is tough but there's only one place in Medford that I know of that has it. In regards to the homeless population here, there are many supportive care options here in order to combat the problem and eventually get them transitioned into long term housing and off the street.

The homeless aren't the ones you have to worry about. It's the aggressive, criminal element. And quite frankly, I have seen homeless people have far more reasons to fear housed people, rather than the other way around. For example, I saw a man in a suit and BMW try to hit some poor guy on a bike with his car. It was random, and apparently just for the driver's own amusement. Fortunately the man on the bike escaped, but he just had this look on his face like, "What is wrong with this guy". So sad. This was in downtown Medford.

Thanks for being honest about the area. It's refreshing to hear honest opinions about the few negatives of Medford. Getting these types of tips makes a move a MILLION times easier! If you know what to expect (especially in the less positive areas, which usually is what frustrates people when they move) one doesn't get as mad about it.

If you want all the concerts, sports, hot yoga on every corner stay in the city. These type of people have been coming from the shitties for decades complaining about how boring it is in the valley since I was a kid. If you want to be entertained stay in the city, don't insist on bringing with you. Oh gawd, regarding cell phone service. Do you folks realize that SW Oregon is geographically the worst area for reception in the state historically.

What you don't mention is that the homeless population is horrible all over the entire West Coast, from the Canadian to Mexican borders. The prices for rentals and home purchases are *outrageous* in the Rogue Valley compared to the Willamette Valley! I spoke to a denture maker recently who is desperately trying to hire a tech and when he finally hired one from the Portland area, he couldn't find *anything* he could afford on a $70,000/annual salary. That's one story in hundreds I've been hearing since returning to the Medford area to help my family recover after the Almeda Fire. As realty people, these are things you should know. I'm really disappointed ☹️ in this "bitch-fest" about my hometown. It may not be the best place in the world, but it's 1000x better than Idaho!

Spot on. Medford and Jackson County do a great job with the homeless population. Moving to the Rogue Valley from middle California, Medford’s homelessness and crime is child’s play comparatively.

When a state decriminalized most drugs it's a literal calling to all homeless drug addicts to come sleep on our streets. Thank God it rains all the time compared to Cali.

TBH, I'd rather live in Bend or Hood Rover. Also Walla Walla, Couer d'Alene or Sandpoint. Spent much time in Medford and Ashland visiting my sister and working in the field as part of my job. The people of the area, outside of Ashland (very friendly), are not that welcoming compared to Oregonians elsewhere and can be very anti-government, bordering on survivalists. Its just that geographically you are about as remote as you can get along the I-5 corridor, and the area has filled up over the years with discontented escapees from the south. I love Table Rock and Prescott Park is nice. Jacksonville is a nice historic town.

Most of the original settlers in the area came from New England and the mid- west except for native peoples who where already there. Great wine country, and pear orchards. Lived there for 35 years and wish were still there. Britt Music festival, Ashland theater, rafting the Rogue River, skiing Mt. Ashland, hundreds of miles of forest trails to hike, and great medical facilities…what’s not to like. Social problems, yes, crime, yes, homelessness, yes, but nothing compared to L.A. SanFrancisco, Seattle and Portland where I currently reside. Southern Oregon is a great place.
@kenaldri4923 Жыл бұрын
@@burkeraymond6669 yeah, I compared it to other towns in the NW, not San Francisco or LA. My sister still lives there but gets bugged by the heat. I do like the area but in recent years have drifted north or east, rather than south, from Portland when on vacation. And since I worked for the government, we tended to view southern Oregonians as being the most anti- government in the state.

OMG I have been researching the Medford area of late and am always interested in assessing the personality of the people that live there. You are both so negative and self important. Ground squirrel massacre is not the answer. Sporting Event venues are for BIG Cities. Inability to survive or thrive without Internet to guide you is pathetic. Climate change and Homelessness are issues that people need to collaborate to resolve. Small mindedness and heartless cruelty toward animals... coexist with nature and wildlife should be the goal. Wow are these two talking heads indicative of the locals and the culture in the Medford area?
@craigmiller428 Жыл бұрын

First world problems....boo hoo. Keep in mind that by virtue of living in the USA, we are in the top 1% of the entire world, even the poorest among us. For the people who want big city amenities, I suggest moving to a big city and not ruin the smaller and midsized towns. I live in SoCal and would do anything to be able to drive ten minutes away and be in the woods with peace and quiet. There's plusses and minuses to every location. I'd take Medford over Portland any day. Don't ruin it, when you can't have all the stuff, go somewhere quiet and meditate. You life will be a thousand times better in the long run.
