6 TIPS FOR BETTER SLEEP with your baby with NO Sleep Training! If you’re a tired new parent (you’re not alone!) and you’re looking for baby sleep tips, this video is for you! Many parents are overwhelmed with a sleep schedule, how to get baby to nap longer (those darn short naps!), and all the different methods of “sleep training” out there- cry it out method, no cry sleep training, gentle sleep training, etc. Trying to figure newborn sleep is tough!
In this video, I’m giving you SIX tips to help a baby sleep and sharing resources to better understand how to help my baby sleep, various sleep schedule for babies, wake windows, bedtime routines for baby, and more to avoid an overtired baby and get your baby to sleep better or even start sleeping through the night. If your baby doesn’t sleep through the night right away, that is NORMAL! Babies are biologically programmed to wake up at night and need you! Using these newborn sleep tips will help you and your baby get the sleep you need!

Babies are mostly born good sleepers or not so good sleepers. Honestly, there is not much you can do. I wish I knew this with my first. Accepting that some babies just don't sleep well is sometimes the best thing to do. When you think your brain will shut off from the lack of sleep your baby will give you enough grace to go on.

It would be helpful to communicate to parents who are breastfeeding that babies will need to eat more frequently- so those 2 hour sleep times can make sense- so mom will be able to sustain her milk supply. Too often people are having their babies sleep over 5 hours (like 7-12 hours) at night when babies are just about 2 months old, and then progressively longer, and moms at 4-6 months all of a sudden find their milk supply has dropped and their babies are falling off their growing curve (Yes, even the WHO growth curves for breastfed babies). SO, there are some great ideas here, but just be judicious in how long babies go between feeds. Demand creates supply. That in mind, if you want baby to sleep through the night, mom may still need to get up and pump for those feeds she misses-and well, might as well just feed the baby instead of the pump.

Firstly, I’m a doula and MAJOR follower, because you’re amazing! I don’t know if this is the video to share this in, but here goes… when my daughter was VERY little (maybe 2) I bought her a special clock; “when you wake up and the clock doesn’t show the certain time it’s sleep time, but if you want you can play in your room. When the clock is on (indicated) time it’s wakeup time, and you can come into Mamma’s room. Is that ok, do you understand?”. “Yes Mamma, (repeats what I said)”. [The next morning, about 6:00 am, comes in to wake me] “Mamma, I think the clock is broken!”

These tips are great and they do work! My baby is currently 2mo old and has been sleeping good, waking up 2 times at night instead of 3-4 as he used to on his first days. He has slept on his own crib(next to me) since day one. Before bed I change diaper, feed him, use a sound machine and very low light to be able to see him(the humifier blue light works for me). Most days I put him on the crib awake, rock him a little with my hands, put a pacifier and he would fall asleep. Also, "Le pause" is so real! I usually wait 1-3mins and he would fall back to sleep. Thank you, your videos are great!

@@pournamigd8899 Right now he sleeps straight, and doesn't wake up to eat. We get ready for bed a little before 10 and he nurses usually for about 45 minutes. It's a long session. He's asleep by 11 and gets up between 6 and 8. The first 2 months he would wake up every 3-4 hours to eat. It eventually became 5 hours, then 6, and so forth. Yes that sinking feeling of accepting that his up and awake and not going back to sleep after a 15-30 min nap is hard especially when you worked so hard for them to fall asleep , might as well get that 30 mins nap in aswel or just chill and wait for them to up . unfortunately when my son was young he would have short naps during the day and wake at night then want the breast the whole night, fall asleep then cry if you take the breast out his mouth. I really struggled but gets a bit better as they get older at least

1. UNDERSTAND your baby’s wake windows -6mo will have a bigger wake window than a 2mo -resource in description -feed, play with, walk, talk, and sing with them and change them while they’re awake 2. MANAGE the length of naps -sometimes it’s best to wake your baby so they can be tired at night 3. DO whatever you need to do to get your baby to sleep and stay asleep -baby wearing, rocking, soothe to sleep -first few months 20min-2hr naps -5mo naps elongate -if they wake from a nap and don’t go to sleep after 10-15min then let them stay up 4. ESTABLISH a sleep routine -rock, read, sing, etc. in a routine -sound machine, blackout curtains -pacifier 5. IMPLEMENT “le pause” -pause for 2-5 min when baby starts to fuss or cry to see if they will go back to sleep -babies can cry in light sleep 6. REDUCE stimulation as much as possible -dark room, blackout curtains -cover small lights with dark tape

How old is your baby? Can a baby be too young to implement Le Pause?
@BabySleepTeam
@BabySleepTeam 2 жыл бұрын
@@erikawands1657 Hi Erika! Using a pause for newborns just for a minute or two is a great way to practice to see if they can fall asleep on their own. Some parents are totally surprised that some newborns CAN fall asleep on their own without being put to sleep! But newborns also have erratic sleep patterns due to their immature circadian rhythm and development so if they can't fall asleep on their own yet, that's ok! The best times of the day to practice if you want to try using the pause is the first nap of the day and at night time before bed as it is when they have the most amount of sleep pressure. Hopefully this helps :)

Am French : never heard of any "pause" but I would do it instinctually, mostly because you're waiting for the other shoe to drop and be sure you're not waking baby unnecessarily. It is also grammatically incorrect to say "le" as "le" is masculine while "pause" is feminine, but we're used to non-French adding "Le" everywhere to make things fancy, it's ok xD

My son napped like a champ until about 4months. He's 5 months now. Idk if I can let him cry for 60min😔 which I've seen suggested. right now he gets up at 7. he's stuck in 2-3 30-40 min naps and one 1.5-2 hr nap. Also, if I put him down before 8:30 he wakes up 20- 30 min later crying and has to be soothed. I've let him cry up yo 30 mim and he doesn't go back to sleep.A few times he has done 2 2 hr naps and 1 30 min which is the goal, but for the last couple weeks I can't get him to consistently do the desired schedule. I've tried so many things. I started sleep training around 1.5 months and in a few days he had it down and was sleeping through the night. I already keep him up for 2 hours and sometimes more to b sure he's tired, his room is dark, we have a sound machine, the temperature is regulated. I'm open to ANY suggestions.

34 weeks atm... I haven't slept through the night in 2 months. "I slept really well!" means I only got up once to pee and was able to fall back asleep in under an hour. "I slept fine" means the previous plus waking up periodically because my hips hurt to change positions (no, pillows don't work, often make it worse). "I didn't sleep well" means 2 bathroom breaks, nothing helping the hip pain and/or not falling back asleep until the sun starts to rise and the birds start to sing. I miss normal sleep...

My 6months old only naps for 30min each time… I’ve tried rocking him back to sleep but it doesn’t work 😭 we do white noise, blackout blinds and pacifiers but I just can’t get him to sleep for longer even when he’s still tired when he wakes up. Any tips ?😭

When my baby was born she was able to sleep through the night, lactation consultant taught me to wake her up 2-3 times to feed. Now I have problems with both breastfeeding and sleep because she doesn't go back to sleep anymore. I'm going to go nuts

Reading these comments I'm just thinking...I can't be the only one who does all of these tips already and still has a baby that won't sleep during the day LOL. None of this is rocket science and sometimes you can do all of these things and your baby still is not going to take to what you want them to do. If you're another mom reading these comments feeling like....this video didn't change much for you, just know you're not alone....you're doing a great job and it'll all work out in time.

So you don't change the diaper with every feed at night? And when you change the diaper, how can you get it righting the dark? You have to check whether the baby is clean, right?

Does the le pause trick help for 3 week olds? I'm guessing not, because my newborn wakes up almost every time I gently lay her into her bassinet, unless she is swaddled the right way or asleep deep enough, but I'm not even sure. I am always careful not to startle her, but i am so sleep deprived now that i probably screw that up a lot. She only wants to sleep on me, and I usually fall asleep too, which doesn't seem safe. What can i do?

I’m exactly in this same situation with my 3 week and 6 day old baby, about to be 1 month old tomorrow within the next hour as I type this. It feels reassuring to know I’m not alone in this. My postpartum doula tells me I have to have my baby learn how to sleep more often on a flat, firm surface such as her bassinet. But my baby is doing the things that yours does. I can’t even sleep when she sleeps/is awaken, because of this very reason. I keep finding myself at my breaking point - sleep deprived and battling postpartum anxiety and borderline depression. I’m gonna have to understand that this my daughter’s sleep personality, as well as I’m doing the best I can to soothe her despite all of my efforts.

@@ellenangeline I am so sorry that you're sleep deprived and battling post partum depression! I know it is mostly due to lack of sleep. Hang in there! To be honest with you, i just took my mom's advice and let my baby sleep right next to me in bed, but i made her sleep on her back with her head up so she couldn't smother herself against me and my arm around her so she couldn't fall (also without a shirt or blanket near her face). It has been so easy to nurse her in the side lying position whenever she wakes me up, and i instinctively don't move or disturb her. I am a light sleeper. It feels totally natural to me, and has worked out great so far. Now, she is over 2 months old, and i have been able to get her to sleep in the bassinet more and more (i don't let her cry it out, though). This has worked for us, and i have been able to get sleep, which is very important. I hope you can figure out something that gets you some sleep. Do you have a partner who can help?

Unfortunately it is developmentally appropriate for babies under 6 months to take really short naps. Some babies take longer naps in the early months. But your baby is completely normal if he or she is only taking brief cat naps during the day. But if you stick with these tips your baby may fall into a better routine more quickly than if you aren't consistent. :) You can do it!
