My tip is very specific to trails..For long events I like trekking poles. Of course train with them ahead of the event. The other helpful tip I learned from a friend that does very well in ultra trail marathons is to bend the knee a little more to engage the quads/hamstrings/glutes. Like a kinda tiny squat. Otherwise I tend to use a lot of calves and not take advantage of the stronger muscles. Btw.. yesterday, I was literally thinking that y’all should make a video about hill running 😮. Loved the tips and reminders 🥳. GTN always delivers 😎🤙🏽.

I've always tried to fall up the hill. Let gravity do as much of the work as possible.

I live in the Alps, there are hills virtually everywhere as soon as I go out of the flat. The best tip I have and always share with beginner trailers is : don't run, WALK.

Take it easy, practice, rinse -repeat. Occasional session hill sprints/ hill sections

I've found the easiest way for me is to just jump a bit higher on each step, as if running up stairs. In the end it feels so natural that when you get to the flat surface, THAT feels more difficult (due to the additional height you need to fall).

Would love to see a similar video on how running hills downwards.

Going up hills is far more motivating when the view from the top is awesome. An incentive like that, makes the effort well worth it.

#gtncoachescorner Hi coaches, a few episodes back you explained how donating blood will affect your race performance due to the lack of red blood cells. So my question is could you use that time to do some sort of altitude training? For sure smashing hard intervals the next day is not advisable maybe to start with some zone 2? And if I can add a cheeky second question, when is the best time to consume protein after weight training? Already at the gym or after you cycled home?

Coming from the flatlands, hills are foreign to me. I have to do hill workouts on the treadmill incline. I do have one race in with some higher elevations and they are my terror. More incline work I guess.

Get a Stryd power meter - it's the best for uneven terrains!
