Really useful tips and remminds me of some the hurdles we had when we bought our place here in Spain. If I might add a comment about the borders and neighbours, another hidden problem to be aware of is access rights. Make sure your neighbours don´t have access rights to their land through yours, because there isn´t a direct entry to their land. When we bought our land, we wanted to add a neighbouring plot of woodland and looked up the owner. It turned out to be an elderly man who had inherited the plot and hadn´t actually seen it! We negotiated a price and signed the deeds. After signing, as he was looking through the deeds, we actually saw him physically change colour as he realised that he had right of access to it through our land, so he could have asked for much more. Such is life! 😀

One fact that surprised me was, be absolutely certain any ruins or building on the property permits permanent dwelling. Have seen some people disappointed because structures are temporary agriculture purpose only during a harvesting season.

Superb vlog, excellent point you can never be completely reliant on the land, absolutely need a back up income, because if your water pump breaks or you need animal feed or a vet, or you have natural disaster having no income leaves one in a state of risk, also if you have a large piece of land that needs intensive labour and you on your own that's not realistic, if you get sick who is going to do the work, it is a lifestyle that has to be carefully planned, not just a decision made on a whim😉

Thanks for the tips. What are he internet connectivity options in the rural areas? Just mobile, or is it possible to have fast and reliable internet access?
@olichandler66582 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, the 4G and sometimes 5G mobile connection has never let us down here in Portugal. Jana works online and we have a unlimited data for 1 euro a day with MEO. When we view properties we do a speed test to make sure the connection is good. We get 7 to 20+mbps download speed depending where we are. There have been phone cables nearby some of the properties we have viewed too. It just depends on how close your to a village.

Here's a not-so-secret secret: Elon Musk's Starlink satellite Internet system is available (as Public Beta) in all of Portugal already, providing 50 Mbps easily. Quite a game changer, as you can work from even the most remote property then. Not cheap though (99 EUR/month, but you could share the connection with neighbors).

You know whats happing right now in Portugal? The price of land went crazy high! Because we (Portuguese) have so many foreniers coming to live Here. Because they dont know the "normal" prices of farming land. 1€/2m is for clean land (ready to start farming) with clean water and good Access. 0,5cen/2m is for land that is wild (a lot of trees) still with easy access and Water. Less them that is land in the midle of other peoples land with kind of bad acess and you will not know if theres no water. I got 2 hectares with 2 water points and conectet to the nacional road 15 min from the highway for 18.000. It was very expenssive. Because of the really good locacion. And its in the oest ( very humid, a lot of water, very, very fertily perfect to grow fruit or veggies.) 1 hectar in oest is like 10 hectar on the midle or Alentejo.

@@sicuro5050 All houses have mold here because of the humidity. I know americans tend to say its a really big problem but we dont think so. We just wash the walls with bleach 2 to 3 times a year and cleans it away. We are having less and less Water so living in a humid place is good. But winter can be dificult because humid winters can be more dificult then dry winter.

Hi, I use Google earth or Google maps satellite images. I then find the general area of the property and screen shot it. You can then use the link in the description to find the rustic article on the 🇵🇹 website and overlay them on a computer to see the boundaries on the satellite images. Also if you use Google earth on your laptop you can time slide through the old satellite Images to see if there have been any forest fires in the area of a property.

What are the things do you prefer in Spain compares to Portugal ?
@portugalonawingandaprayer4732 жыл бұрын
@@sicuro5050 Hazel ☘️ … My intention upon moving from Ireland just over ten years ago was to travel around Europe living in different countries for five years each approximately . I got really comfortable in Spain and stayed 10 years … but things with Brexit changed and close friends were moving back to UK … also the house I’d been renting was sold … so I thought this was a good time to move on … So it is not a matter of preferring one country over another, Spain is a wonderful country steeped in culture and the Spanish are lovely, very friendly with a a great sense of humour ! … the only real down side was the almost unbearable heat during the summer , but that is a locational thing … I lived in the Murcia, Andalusia desert region. So new adventures are ahead … the countries boarder each other but are very different … this is worth experiencing … so I embark on this next journey to embrace everything about Portugal and not make negative comparisons Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to have a think about this with your question Sicuro 🙏☘️😘
