Sinoid fold rules! Start with color off, turn clip on, and start just dialing in 1-3db. Often, you can get something like a pseudo hard limiter effect with a tube sort of sound. The clipper chops the top giving a bit of square sound, and the sinoid saturation adds in harmonics kind of like FM. Color can help dial in specific timbres (but can also be destructive). I find the cleanest sounds balancing drive/wet values. Love your vids.

Another tip for getting more energy in the sub frequency range of a mix is taking an EQ and carving out some dBs in the 100-200 hz range. Cutting this range will give you more headroom for your sub to sit in the mix while not sacrificing the tone of your sounds in the higher/more audible freq range. If this makes your sub inaudible with small speakers, add some saturation and/or boost around 800 hz. It will make your sub audible through the added harmonics. Fun fact: Your brain can process added harmonics into determining the fundamental root note even if the root note is removed from the sound. You can also HP any track that shouldn’t have sub frequencies, but personally I like to do this when I do the mixdown in case I need more warmth in sections of a song that doesn’t have a designated sub.

A minor correction for 03:20. Bipolar mode set to value 20 will actually make it drop from 10 above the main value to -10 under the value. So not from 20 to -20 as you state. Read an interview with Billain about the sub bass in his track Autonomous. Apparently he measured the time it takes a 16" sub to settle after being displaced to see how close together he could put the sub bass hits. After reading about that, always wanted to know more about how to do sub bass so thanks for the tips!

sinoid fold is waveshaping with a sine.....and it's a similar dsp process that is the one built into the Korg 01/w that was used a lot by the basement records crew in 92/93 for all those crazy jungle techno stabs
@STRANJAH
@STRANJAH 2 жыл бұрын
Man its such a beautiful way to waveshape, something about it like it actually sounds like its modulating the waveform like FM
@MrZensphere
@MrZensphere 2 жыл бұрын
@@STRANJAH well, it kind of is... The folded portion has a sinusoidal shape, separate from the fundamental frequency of whatever you're effecting. FM often uses sine waves at inharmonic frequencies (relative to the fundamental)

Hello, Stranjah, I’m sorry, you must get 1000x production messages a day, so my apologies to add to that list. I haven’t been producing for many years, but one thing I could never understand with Sine Waves/Sub Bass, is how certain artists managed to skim so much of the unwanted frequencies, (80-100HZ

I'm not quite sure what you are saying about the notes. Are you saying that you don't want a sub to go lower than D0 i.e 36hz fundamental? I am just making a tune in A minor and my sub is A1 so 55hz, is that too high for the lowest note?
@STRANJAH
@STRANJAH Ай бұрын
Use whatever works! There is no wrong answer. It depends on what key your track is being written in and how you want it to sound. If you go too low, you may not even be able to properly perceive it, depending on your monitoring setup. If it sounds good, it is good!
@Benq140
@Benq140 Ай бұрын
@@STRANJAH Thanks for coming back to me. I don't get to hear my tunes on big sound systems so was wondering if tunes didn't have much bass below 55hz whether it would still have the same impact on a big rig

That's a sub on the source track, just boost your subwoofer above 10 000W power so you will get a lot of subbass when on the track is very low. This method is good but it can destroy subwoofer with walls and I don't want it.
@STRANJAH
@STRANJAH Жыл бұрын
Well, I was considering getting rid of my walls anyway, they're quite overrated, don't you think? But in all seriousness, it's always good to strike a balance between a booming bass and retaining the integrity of one's home and sound equipment. Thanks for looking out!
