He saw it and just told him to keep his head up because if you LOOK weak or seem afraid or scared walking in there... you may as well have a sign up saying 'exploit me'. You will be picked on by the lowest of the low, guys who want to bump themselves up the food chain at your expense. You go in looking confident (not cocky) and people will just take note of you - they may still test you, but because you look normal then it there's no flashing signal for people to target you. Keep the head up and walk in like you know yourself.

@@dahliarose8466 You can be an advocate for something without dedicating your entire life to to the thing you're advocating for. 5% of the prison population is still tens of thousands of people, the entire population of a lot of US towns. I'm all for the harshest of sentences, but first and foremost we need to make sure we're giving them to the wrong people. Not only does imprisoning someone wrongfully potentially ruin their life for decades or its entirety, it also does a disservice to the victims since the actual perpatrator is still walking free. If you don't support ensuring innocent people don't spend years of their lives behind bars, then you're as low of a creature as the actually guilty people behind bars.

Seeing the marine quit out really surprised me. I went to jail a month after I turned 18 for a little while and while I was mildly scared at first, I adjusted pretty quick with regards to feeling safe and confident. Getting deployed seems way scarier to me, but then again, maybe he didn't actually see combat

My uncle saw 20 years of combat and openly tells me im much stronger for not breaking in prison. He couldn't do it and he knows it. I didn't have a choice. But I my uncle is one of the strongest people I know, also one of the smartest, and he's my hero. Mainly because he knows his limitations

@g-manjams
@g-manjams 3 жыл бұрын
The strength of the military is in your battle buddies. Going into jail, you're alone with potentially violent and unstable people. Breaking the weird etiquette that inmates have, can get you killed. I've seen guys get stabbed for talking about coffee to the wrong person because it somehow violated that etiquette. That would be what scares me the most. Just violating that ridiculous code that inmates have without even realizing and getting jumped, stabbed and/or killed. On top of that, I wouldn't want to develop a friendship with anybody who might inadvertently get me into a situation by proxy. In the military, you're ready to die for your comrades, and you know they're ready to do the same. In jail, you don't have that. I know inmates can become close, but there is a bond that comes with the uniform that other inmates don't have. You have the strength of your unit at your back. That's the difference.

Kinda have to give props to Gerson. Yes, he barely did anything in the show. Yes, he 'chickened out' really early. But you know something? It takes a bigger man to be honest and up front on their feelings, where their mental health is at and how it's going to affect them being in this kind of dangerous situation. He gave it a try, but ultimately he realised that being in this show was going to do him more harm than good. I hope he's living a good life after this.
