Both my parents were born into this church (in the 60s - I think my mom was 4yo when her parents joined) and met each other at Ambassador; they left when I turned 8 or 9 (in the 90s). Deconstruction is a slow journey, and I am thankful that they had the courage to begin that journey. I got to watch my parents explore their own belief systems, grow, and evolve. I got to watch them befriend and welcome people from different religions (or no religion). But, if something is repeated to you vehemently and incessantly from the moment you are born... it doesn't easily leave your subconscious, unless you do some very intentional work. I remember my dad casually telling me once that as a child he never thought he would live past his 9th birthday (until he did of course). But, that deeply rooted fear that "the end" would come never really left him. It just became packaged into something that sounded more sophisticated and plausible "political unrest" "studying history" "keeping an eye on geo-political events"... a narrative that didn't sound "culty" or "doomsday-ish" that vibed even with the well-educated, non-religious people in his life. But, behind the scenes, I observed the upending... the paranoia. The incessant study. The need to make an escape plan. I just didn't understand it then. He decided to buy property overseas (in a rather peaceful, under-the-radar part of the world, not totally "off-grid" but tucked away in a small, quiet town), talking about the need to have alternatives, to be able to live safely and peacefully if things got "really bad." He died a few month after making the purchase. Now, I see so clearly that that 9 -year-old boy was still terrified that things might become catastrophic (at least in our part of the world)... and I recognize now that his internalized belief system is a very large part of why he died. He wasn't well. Things had been slowly eroding for a few years... in a way that as a teen and young adult... I simply didn't understand. He was acting different. Stress and fear were eating him alive. Years later, when I realized that he named the property Place of Safety (the name WCG used for the place God would harbor members of the church during end times).. it honestly broke my heart just a little bit. I'm not angry... my parents also intentionally made the choice not to be angry about their childhoods... telling us that they preferred to remember the good things like community and friendships, even if they were (to the best of their ability) letting go of belief systems that no longer made sense to them. I am sad though. Very sad. Sad that these kinds of organization take hold of people's minds and lives in ways that sometimes never leave them. That can form the basis for how they see the world... and deeply affect their mental well-being. A deeply embedded belief system that must be constantly unraveled. Sad that a narrative of doom and fear fed week after week to a child from the moment he was born... played a significant part in taking from me someone that I loved (and love) very, very much.

The day that program aired, I knew and realized that "60 Minutes" was a very biased and destructive so called news magazine. I happen to have a full copy of the video transcript of the entire interview that Mike Wallace participated in. It lasted almost 6 hours and was very complimentary up until about the last 20 minutes or so when Wallace cornered Rader about a controversial conversation. I am not trying to say everything the church did was good and right, but CBS and all their affiliate organizations pretty much l o a t h e all religion. They did a hit piece on a Texas preacher years ago that my mother would listen to and even though I didn't really agree with his theology, I was very confident that he was a sincere man and was trying to help Wayward teenage girls who got pregnant out of wedlock. The worst thing that reporter could find to report on was two girls stated that: "they make us read the Bible and give us swats". Don't automatically believe that the mainstream media is going to give you the unvarnished truth. There are two sides to every coin.

No matter what you all thought and think, this Church was the only true Church that had God's approval!! Remember they called Jesus Christ an imposter, bealzebub and they ssid He worked by the power of the devil! As Jesus Himself said" you say if you were in the days of your fathers, you would not have killed the prophets" so they admit by their own position that they are of the same. Assisnating mr armstrong!! They and you all will PAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you👍 As Jesus said of John, the Baptist, and of people of this world, John was a light that they chose for a while! And after his departure, they forgot about him. Perharps, rejecting him. They did this with mr armstrong! And Jesus also likened these people to this: we played the flute, and you did not dance. We played a dirge, and you did not mourn. What is it about this world, that people love to be blind, hate truth and despise law?

From my research I have pieced together some of the following: Robert Kuhn (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lawrence_Kuhn), who was a former PlainTruth writer, influential member of the college, and friend of Stan Rader, convinced six people to sue the church for misappropriation of funds. This was led by a man by the name of John Tuit. The state of California came down pretty hard on Worldwide for several years. Stan Rader used his influence, on the California Assembly, to get them to pass a law to make the lawsuit null and void. During this time, as a result, all assets were transferred to Herbert W Armstrong sole proprietorship corporation. It appears that Joseph Tkatch, and subsequently Joe Jr, were heir apparents to the church coffers. Interestingly enough, Joe Jr presided over Stan Raders funeral. I have confirmed from multiple sources of what Garner Ted said in this video: the inner workings of worldwide were corrupt and carnal to the core. For me, one of the biggest lessons of all of this, is that sometimes in order to learn how to do something, you have to witness first how not to do something. Biblical truth should never be used for control or to merchandise people.

I'm a current member of The Living Church of God. I've had reservations about this church for some time now, really ever since covid started. I would definitely like more information if you have it and especially if you know anything about Gerald Weston and/or Dr. Roderick Meredith.

@mattwalters2301 I attended the Global Church of God for 2 years, which was the precursor to Living. I talked to Rod Meredith a few times but I was just in my late teens. Having done as much research as I have, there's no way that the evangelists at headquarters were naive to the misappropriation of funds, philandering of the top brass, and complete carnality of the leadership. You have to realize that Herbert recruited very young men and then indoctrinated them to do exactly as he did and said. The level of uniformity and mind control that was in Worldwide was unparalleled. I would imagine it is in Living to a lesser extent. Rod just did what he knew how to do and was taught. These organizations have a lot of biblical truth, but in many ways they are examples to us of how not to handle the truth. As far as Gerald Weston, I met him before and he seems like a nice man, but he is probably also just furthering a system that he knows because he was indoctrinated as a young man too.

They were a lawful and charitable church. We started receiving their THE PLAIN TRUTH magazine (free of charge) in 1965 when I was 8 or 9 years old. That along with THE BAPTIST MESSENGER was how I got my "extra" religious training. Their magazines and booklets helped me tremendously to get some "education" in a part of the country where you simply cannot possibly learn it in the classroom.

Jesus Christ never built a church that disobeyed laws like this church, and so ultimately the WCG fell apart splitting into hundreds of disagreeing groups, none of which keeps ALL of God's commandments, statutes and judgments to this day, Ex.22:16,17 being just one example of a judgment refused to be taught by the ministry at all costs. "Do you know what THAT would DO to the Church?", one minister replied when asked if that judgment should be taught. He refused to answer the question at all. Then there is the international date line issue that is another problem for the ministry, especially those headquartered in Oceania. Remember that Scripture says that those that be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and that certainly happened to the ministers of WCG. None of their ministries now agree one with the other, and most of them turned over the sovereignty of Jesus Christ to the "US Govt" by becoming a 501(c)3 organization to let their members get tax exempt status to their tithes and offerings given to the Church. Christ never did anything like that in His ministry when He walked the earth. Christ never followed the Jew's calendar of Hillel II with its postponements of Holydays either. No wonder WCG doesn't exist any more. God allowed it to get destroyed, and many of its early leaders have now died. It was nearly 30 years ago that they gave up keeping God's sabbaths also, if they every kept them on the right days to start with, whilst following the Jew's Hillel II calendar and never keeping the correct new moon days, which are not one of the six "working days": Ezekiel 46:1,3. The Apostles always told the people to prove all things and hold fast to that which is True.
