If sale ready examples are fetching 9ish, this car has to be half price to my mind. The interior is the easy part! Wood kits and carpet kits are easily sourced new from UK specialists and not too expensive. Looks like the leather would scrub up beautifully. Have owned several Turbo R's, a series II Mulsaane, spirits and spurs as well as a few shadows along the way. Brilliant cars, brilliant engines/gearboxs/diffs. Expect to do suspension bushes and spheres in this one in addition to brakes. Cheers from Australia and thanks for sharing!
@JoshsWorld7 жыл бұрын
I talked to the seller and it sounded like he was willing to negotiate. If you look at the Craigslist listing now, you will see that he had the interior cleaned as well. Thanks for watching from Australia!
@my64caddymt7 жыл бұрын
With all the mold, and the way the dirt has setttled on the wheels, it looks like that warehouse flooded at some point. Especially when you look at the carpet. All that moisture had to come from somewhere. If thats true, youre looking at a salvage title which would push the price even lower. I wouldnt toutch it for 6k. 2 or 3 maybe, but not 6.
@JoshsWorld7 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought. Those tires made me think it was sitting in water. 6k is the starting point and the seller sounded like he was willing to negotiate for a serious buyer.

There's a rule of buying special interest/collector cars. Buy the best one you can find, not the one you think you can get cheap enough to redo. When all is said and done, you will have more in the cheap one than in the perfect one.
@JoshsWorld7 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's usually the case.

Avoid. The fact that the owner told you that the brakes were going out is evidence of lack of maintenance. 1.The first thing one should ever do when considering the purchase of these cars is to ask for a documented service history. 2. The car has sat for a few years. It will require a complete hydraulic system rebuild, all new belts, hoses, seals and flexible braking hoses: $10,000+ 3. If there are no tears in the upholstery, it will come up nicely after cleaning and several applications of Hide Food, which, by the way, you should be doing on your Arnage T. 4. Of course it has fuel injection I’m surprised that you didn’t notice the lack of twin SU carburettors, and besides, all SZ series cars sold in the USA had fuel injection. 5. It will require new tyres. The correct size is 235/70-15, and the only tyre suitable for the weight and speed of the car available in that size is the Avon Turbosteel. They will run you about $300 each. 6. If the woodwork needs refinishing, assume approximately $5000 7. Mould in the footwells means significant moisture has found its way in. On SZ Series cars, if that moisture has come from behind the facia at the top of the bulkhead, that means removal of the facia and replacement of the circuit board for the split level automatic aircon system: $4000. 8. Whilst on the subject of moisture, I’ll bet 10 to 1 that the footwells in the front have corrosion. You might not see it though, as it can be between the catalytic converter and the footwells. In any event: $3000, plus new catalytic converters. 9. The car will require new rear struts: $2000 That is all just for starters. The cheapest Rolls-Royce or Bentley is always the most expensive car in the world.

Ok Josh, I know a fair bit about these cars. First the BIG positive is that black is a great colour, if original (IMPORTANT). If the body has little rust then great, most in the UK have suffered terribly. If it were an earlier Bentley T2 (Shadow based) then they're becoming a classic. But these are quite rare also because the RR was a bigger seller. The interior would clean up but if it's got a musty smell then you may NEVER get rid of it. The chrome grill is very customer dependant , this breed of car distinguished itself by having colour coded grills when launched. But that's only my opinion, on second thoughts I now like it!. Also the black windows, yuk, hopefully can be reversed if one of those additions.The year is an early year and many improvements came post 93 with centre console gear shift and 4 speed box.Repairing the brakes is easy if you know how BUT it's a dark science and will probably need the brake pumps overhauling and new gas spheres that are cheap. If callipers are seized then they need overhauling but straightforward. These cars are incredibly over engineered and there's nothing like them today. Everything is massive and unique unlike today multinational cars which are parts bin kits in many respects, Luckily it has injection which is a massive improvement over the old Solex 4 barrel carburettor. They couldn't make these today as they'd be too expensive which is why they've been swallowed up under the VW/BM/Audi++ umbrella. Loads if web info and forums out there. Now the Turbo R is more desirable but more complex. My advice would be, if you can fix it yourself or are willing to learn then go for it. If you're relying on garages you'll lose your shirt unless you have a friendly mechanic that knows these. Be a great fun daily, rolling restoration. Engine is built proof but needs nice coolant and oil.I suspect this will end up a breaker if it doesn't find a willing enthusiast. Watch Jay Leno's Turbo R and you be injected with enthusiasm.
@JoshsWorld7 жыл бұрын
Adam, thanks for all this great info... great insight! I totally agree with you (except about your incorrect spelling of "colour" 😆). The Jay Leno video was pivotal in my decision to purchase the Arnage, definitely inspirational.
@adamskikijowski91397 жыл бұрын
I've edited the text and added some more info, Personally all these SZ breed are future classics because they're disappearing fast. I have more than one of these fantastic family of cars. Even youngsters think they're cool! And as for the Corniche that really defines exuberance with roof down. All these 'Old Rollers' define a bygone era never to be repeated.
@2006gtobob7 жыл бұрын
Definitely don't be afraid of it. It's only 6g. Buy it, strip out the seats, they're only car seats, and strip out the carpeting, clean and sanitize everything and maintain the leather. At 32 years of age it has no miles, so after proper maintenance the leather should be good. The mechanicals are fairly basic and parts are easy to find. I see a 12-15g flip, if not more.

Always clean a car when you want to sell and make sure everything is working. You want to talk about the age and mileage, not about parts that are missing, damage, and so on. It's the only way to a good deal.

Brakes: Two powered systems plus one manual. Powered by pumps running off the cam. Brakes are integrated with powered rear suspension. Likely uses hard-to-find Castrol mineral oil brake fluid - lots of it. If flooded replacing everything interior would only be a start. These cars are loaded with electronics that will be hard to replace or otherwise restore to working order. If you're Jay Leno (who worked for a Rolls dealer before starting his other career), you buy it new, and you keep it up, sure, it will be a joy forever. With bad brakes, bad interior, and possible flood damage it may not be worth six hundred dollars. IMHO

Have you heard the phrase "dont touch it with a barge pole" ? The rules when buying exotica like this are, only buy the best with full service history and do your research. Plenty of lemon designs out there. Your Arnage story is how to do it right. My Top Tip.... if you can only have 1 car.. apply this method to finding a nice Range Rover. Modern range rovers drive almost as well as Bentleys but they do everything else too. You can use it every day for almost everything. You can also use it to explore some remarkable places in your beautiful country..
@JoshsWorld7 жыл бұрын
But sometimes it's fun to throw out the rules and go nuts! 😀
@pwatom227 жыл бұрын
Such a shame.. likely little corrosion. Its a matter of risk.. for an old complex high parts cost bentley.. high risk that refurb going to make this a nightmare of cost and huge amount of time. Owner clearly did not look after it. Bentley owner parking it up because brakes need servicing !! Alarm bell. 10k doesn't go far . The mold alone would be reason enough to walk. Would be good prospect for Bentley shop.. they could fix if viable or worse case part out and reasonable chance of making some money.
