I am a professional photographer and I shoot with both my iPhone (now 1Pro Max) and my mirrorless (Canon EOS R). There have been many times that I end up choosing an iPhone shot over the R shot. I also love a quick tweak in PhotoShop on my phone. When I need to retouch more I move to my MacBook Pro, it is all a seamless process. Which I love. I shoot primarily fashion and portraits so this works perfectly for me. I can get the clients excited in the moment with a sneak peak on my phone. I come from the analog world when I first started my career, so all of this is beyond fun and exciting. You and your brother are funny, goofy (no insult) and informative. Keep up the good work. Phones are really good nowadays, but all of them still have some sort of phone feel to them, its hard to pinpoint but i think its due to the small sensors, since compacts (with small sensors) also have this feel to the pictures. Only phone i have seen which did not have this was the Nokia 808 Pureview with its almost 1" (inch) sensor. then there is of course the depth of fields, also due to the small sensor and fine detail in landscape shots. If you only shot for social media and 90% of your shots are seen on phones then yes, no one will notice. However if you wanna print or view you images on large 4k+ tv's then there is still a pretty large difference.

I shot a film recently using a BMPCC 4K and iPhone 12 Pro Max completely with anamorphic lenses on both (Sirui and Moment). With some care in shooting and colour correction in post, they are virtually indistinguishable from each other. The only thing that gives away the difference is the lack of DoF in the iPhone - ie. everything is sharp in wider shots. In closeups, even the iPhone squeezed out some shallow DoF. The digital sharpness of the iPhone is easily compensated for with a 10% Cinebloom Diffusion filter.

9:32 you know how I knew? by the blurred laces on your hoodie :D additionally, iPhone completely separates the object from the background and canon does this gradually, so, the right shoulder is blurred a bit by the camera lens

Can you make a video, where you show the settings you use on the iphone? And how you edit it? I assume you don’t use auto, right?

Also missed the first landscape shot from the balcony.... Just amazing the similarities that these phones are able to get close to

I got one wrong. Last picture sees a big difference in black/gray. The R is much better in dark situations and gray tone or in dept pictures. Nice comparison...I've a pro as well..and a normal dslr and often use the iPhone!

In the first shot at 4:42, the difference in details in the snow on the ground is massive! How ... ?! R5 didn’t pick any of that up!

where both photos edited before this? if so which editing software is good to use to edit iPhone 12 photos?

I got all of them right especially after you mentioned that iPhone has way more details and also because for some reason iPhone has more of a zoomed out effect. But the details one helped me out on almost all of them.

I got 2 wrong. The first close up portrait and the one you got wrong as well with the Toronto tower between the two buildings. But I'm watching on an iPhone🥴 I'm using an iPhoneXr and took photos in the snow and they look incredible! So, yeah. Totally usable ✨

And i still remember using 64MB gigantic memory card on phones but look how far tech has come that you can’t even tell the difference between dslr and phone photography.

Were those pictures post processed in any way or is this out of the camera and shot in jpg?
